Pessimistic about the season, optimistic about Josh Johnson

Post by welch »

Consider that this was this a thread for sunshine-optimism.

It has been more than a decade...that's when Joe Gibbs retired. Right now, Saturday evening before a Giants' game, the Redskins look competent, better than mediocre. Maybe even pretty good. Here's hoping.

Hail to the Redskins!
Hail Victory!
Braves on the Warpath!
Fight for old D.C.!

Run or pass and score—We want a lot more!
Beat 'em, Swamp 'em,
Touchdown! -- Let the points soar!
Fight on, fight on 'Til you have won
Sons of Wash-ing-ton. Rah!, Rah!, Rah!

Hail to the Redskins!
Hail Victory!
Braves on the Warpath!
Fight for old D.C.!

thanks welch - I'm very optimistic about this game … we are the better team

HTTR
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

Outplayed the Giants today. Defense was fine and OL was pretty good.

I think the Skins' record is more of a reflection of just how poor the division is, rather than the Skins being good. Why do I say this? Because a truly good team would not have gotten blow out vs the Saints like the Skins did...I hope they win the division, but I don't see them going deep into the post season...

I don't disagree that I don't see them going deep in the postseason, but we've only played two divisional games. How can their record be a reflection of the poor division??? The Cowboys aren't great this year, but they don't completely suck either. They have a top 10 defense and one of the best RBs in the league.

We beat a Carolina team and a Green Bay team who both look pretty freaking good right now. And the Saints look like one of the best teams in the NFC.

The thing the Saints game showed me is how this team is in trouble if they get into a shootout and need to score a lot of points. The Falcons have a legit offense. I'll be curious to see how we deal with a team like that.

No terrible injuries in the wn over the Giants.

See the Post: https://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/2 ... 18895e982d
Redskins Pro Bowl left tackle Trent Williams dislocated his right thumb during Sunday’s 20-13 victory over the Giants and was wearing a cast after the game. He injured the thumb in the first half, missing one play, before insisting to return. Eventually, he had to leave the field in the third quarter and did not return.
And
Aside from Williams, the most significant injury was to linebacker Ryan Anderson, who sprained his MCL in his knee and did not return. Running back Kapri Bibbs separated his shoulder early in the game but continued to play. Safety Troy Apke, who has missed most of the season with a pulled hamstring, hurt his hamstring again on Sunday, Coach Jay Gruden said.

I don't know... when I watched the NO game, I was not at all pleased with play... but what I saw was not bad players... it was a HORRENDOUS game plan. It was lack of preparation. That was pure crappy coaching.

the opening line for the Falcons game was Redskins by 3 - now down to 1.5 ...

Smith and Gruden need to get the offense in gear this week ...

I'm trying to stay positive ....

I have enough stress in my life. Beating the Cowboys and Giants in back to back weeks should be enjoyed.

My favorite stat right now is that the Redskins held Christian McCaffrey, Zeke and Barkley under 100 yards rushing. Combined.

Love that.

Yea, trying to stay positive for a 5-2 team that was expected to be 2-5 right now is hard.

what a tool you are  - I'm trying to stay positive about an offense that is not playing very well - we have a RB that is putting it all on the line and a D that is playing very well - the rest of the guys (especially the OC and the QB) just need to do their jobs ... is that too much to hope for

do you think Gruden and Smith are doing their jobs well? good luck with that ... we're 5-2 despite what they have done ... or not done well

I just spent 5 days in MD this past weekend and read a bunch of stuff on the Redskins in the Post and Times ...

are you guys reading this BS that is being printed - it's not just the politicians that have no clue about what is going on in DC ... or this country

Though the Skins are ranked #2 for their run defense, their secondary is not good, and the offense can be downright terrible at times...even a good game plan is tough to make up for these deficiencies...

lol. What did you hear/read? My favorite was a local guy the other day suggesting we compare to the 85 Bears! :D

If this team is ever actually Joe Gibbs good again, this town will lose its collective mind.

By what measure? They're ranked #8 in the league in passing yards allowed and tied at #16 in INTs. And we just added an elite safety to pair with our other elite safety.

The corners are a little young and inexperienced outside of Norman. But not good?

the goal of every NFL team is to win the Super Bowl - to do that you have to make the playoffs ... at the beginning of this season my expectations were between 6 - 8 wins - it doesn't really matter if we 'only' win the division - this team would have far exceeded all my expectations

I'm just going to enjoy this season for what it is -we got lucky ... then, I'll pray that we get rid of Bruce Allen and Jay Gruden

Yea, it's more likely they get rid of Alex Smith than it is they get rid of Jay Gruden.

Supposing Gruden wins the division and makes the playoffs, the correct response is "fire him"? Give me a break. I just don't understand this type of fandom where we're supposed to root for people in the organization to fail.

I'd also that the notion that "we got lucky" this year is complete nonsense. There's nothing lucky about the defense they've put together this year. This has been built over multiple years of pretty decent drafts and FA decisions. Say what you want about Bruce, he brought in Allen, Payne, Settle, Norman, Swearinger, etc; And he hasn't wasted cap space overpaying over the hill vets. We may have gotten lucky on Adrian Peterson, but he's also running behind a solid offensive line built through the draft.

Think we're bound to Alex Smith for a few seasons, but I would not mind seeing the team draft a first round QB next year if someone decent was available to them.

I think some people just root for themselves to be right! I'll be the first to admit I was wrong if we win the division this year!!
While I don't think Gruden is a good coach, I would never root against him or for him to fail.

I'll race you for it. I admit I predicted 7-9 before the season began. Also before they signed Adrian Peterson but that's my fault. 8-[

Don't get cocky, kid. You know damn well this franchise is more than capable of turning a 5-2 start into a 7-9 finish!!!

I was also expecting a 7 - 9 season. The defense looks good. A strong DL, good LB's, Norman is a good CB and hoping that Dunbar gets healthy. Safeties were good, and now, Clinton-Dix makes the best pairing since Sean Taylor played alongside anybody else. OL is a winner, and no serious injuries. Peterson is a keeper. Receivers, well, the receivers are mediocre. As Smith gets sharper, the passing should become good enough to score on most teams.

So far, this is fun. Here's for a sixth win!
