Yeah just saw it on Sports Center again. He didn't run out of bounds, Sean Lee knocked him out. But he was definitely trying to get to the marker and made it easier for Lee to knock him out and stop the clock. Oh well.DEHog wrote:Yeah Alex said as much, but he could clearly see that multiple players had the angle on him. Add to that, I want to believe the last thing Gruden said to him before the mic cut off was...stay in bounds!

Jay Gruden is not a really good HC but he was the best we could get at the time and until we get rid of Bruce Allen and establish some credibility in the NFL by changing the way we manage and operate this franchise, no good HC is going to want to come in here and work with these 2 bozos
Jay could win 10 games or he could win 6 games - until we bring in a new GM and start operating and managing this franchise properly we are doomed

I think Manusky is great... Jay is a terrible OC but decent HC.. Decent. I love to see Greg with a mad face evwn after a great stop... Billecheck like.. Gruden smiles to much lol. Id like to see ua bring in an OC, the scheme is solid but the play calling is out of order. Like he cant focus on game management and play calling at the same time.

Well tbh if we win 10 games this season and make the playoffs, I'm not going to be feeling doomed or bitching about who the GM is. I would probably credit everyone involved and be happy that we didn't suck this year. That's just me though.

Yes. If we win ten games in spite of the owner with a team most experts were picking to win seven games before Guice got injured I think we have to call it a successful season.riggofan wrote:Well tbh if we win 10 games this season and make the playoffs, I'm not going to be feeling doomed or bitching about who the GM is. I want the Redskins to win each and every game ... It would be fantastic if we won the NFC East this season
HOWEVER
I also want this franchise to get better and to get a good HC - to do that, this franchise needs to gain more credibility and become a better managed franchise - we could continue to do things the way we have and hope we get lucky or we could bring in people that would make this franchise more attractive to coaches and players
put another way - IF we win 10 or 12 games and continue on under the 'leadership' of Bruce and Dan with Jay Gruden as our HC, I don't think that anyone is going to look at this franchise and think it's a better place to be
Jay Gruden has clearly proven that he's not a really good HC, he's just the best we could get

I just don't want things to continue as they have here - I've seen enough of Jay Gruden to know that this franchise will be a lot better of with a good HC
I understand that "winning cures everything" but I don't think that Dan & Bruce have any idea how to get better other than mortgaging the future - wouldn't it be nice to have a GM and FO that know's which players and coaches you can add without giving up too much - look at what the stupid Cowboys did - that trade reminds me of the last time they paid a fortune for a WR (Terrence Williams, I think) and he did not work out too well
we need a better FO and a real GM

The Redskins are on pace to win ten or eleven games this season and they are now through the toughest part of their schedule. How exactly does this clearly prove Jay Gruden is not a good NFL coach? Yes, he's made some dumb decisions but most NFL coaches have made some dumb decisions. The Skins have not lost a single game this season based upon a coaching decision.SkinsJock wrote:Jay Gruden has CLEARLY PROVEN to me that he's not a good NFL coach - maybe he's another coordinator that don't know how to make the step up

You're entitled to your opinion - mine is that since Jay Gruden has been here he's proven to be a coach that lacks leadership and his coaching style is more to try and not lose the game than to try and win - he's not done badly this season but I still see him as lacking

Re: Jay Gruden’s Play Calling
As you probably know the Skins wanted Jon Gruden when they hired Jay Gruden. Chucky wanted to stay in the booth. After seeing what he's done to the Raiders roster I'm wondering if we really would have wanted him coaching the team. Yes, he's stockpiling first round draft picks but the Raiders could have a hundred of them and still find a way to screw up their draft. Meanwhile we got Derrius Guice, who knowing what we now know, I wouldn't trade for anyone else in that draft. We also know that Dan Snyder has hired at least two people to take responsibilities away from Bruce Allen. And we know that Snyder does not want to lose Eric Schaffer which is why he's been named a VP and is in charge of contracts. Doug Williams is in charge of player personnel. What is left for Bruce Allen to do is to try to get Danny a new stadium. I think we already have a new GM even if Bruce still holds the title.SkinsJock wrote:You're entitled to your opinion - mine is that since Jay Gruden has been here he's proven to be a coach that lacks leadership and his coaching style is more to try and not lose the game than to try and win - he's not done badly this season but I still see him as lacking

You're probably right though overall. If there's one thing that Skins fans have learned its that hiring new coaches/GMs/QBs/coordinators is a sure fire way to start winning consistently.Unsure about the rules regarding the use of timeouts in an attempt to "freeze" a place kicker, Gibbs said he consulted an official along the sideline, asking whether he could call another timeout after the one he had used a moment earlier, before Buffalo's Rian Lindell sent the ball through the uprights from 51 yards away. Regardless of what the official told Gibbs, his decision to call consecutive timeouts in that situation led to a 15-yard penalty.
"To be quite truthful, I made a decision there at the end that very likely cost us the game," Gibbs said. "That's on me."

Re: Jay Gruden’s Play Calling
it's really simple for me - I'm not advocating a new this or a new that - this franchise under the guidance of Dan Snyder and Bruce Allen is going to continue to be a mediocre franchise - I understand that it's not likely to happen but I would like to get rid of Bruce Allen and bring in a new GM
IF that happens, I doubt that Jay Gruden will be our HC ...

it would be great to win the NFC East this season - in order to be consistently good we need to change the way this franchise is managed

Is that the goal for a franchise that almost never used to miss the playoffs? Make the playoffs. Big deal. The Wizards do that every year. How's that working out for them? The Nationals? If the goal isn't to win another Super Bowl we have the wrong owner, the wrong general manager, the wrong head coach, and the wrong players.oj wrote:'Most NFL coaches' do not make the playoffs.

So, DAMN. Yesterday in the fourth quarter, third and 1 and needing to keep the ball, I'm expecting Gruden to run AP up the middle again. He mixes it up, calls a pass play and if I'm not mistaken Alex Smith makes a bad throw.

Re: Jay Gruden’s Play Calling
You're not mistaken. You have Adrian Peterson and you call a pass on 3rd and 1. Just like you have the ball on a turnover at the end of the first half and you call three consecuvtive pass plays and give the Giants the ball back with time on the clock. Jay Gruden is a complete imbecile at playcalling. No wonder this offense is barely scoring points.riggofan wrote:So, DAMN. Honestly I'm not calling Gruden an imbecile on this. The previous week we were bitching because on 3rd and 1 he called the obvious running play and didn't pick up the first down. Now this week he calls the passing play, and the players don't execute. Its just so frustrating.Burgundy&GoldForever wrote:You're not mistaken. In spite of that, I think you have to actually give him credit for the play calling yesterday. The only thing we had going was AP, and he stuck with him. Even after that horrendous fumble. It was painful AF to watch, but they managed to grind it out.
I'm with you on the offense though, man. They have to figure something out in the passing game. If we didn't have AP this year, we would be completely screwed.

Re: Jay Gruden’s Play Calling
When a guy has been carrying you all season and rushes for 150 yards in a game, including the touchdown you couldn't score to seal the deal until he broke off a 64 yard run, you don't even mention the fumble. It's not like he does that a lot and the line didn't block anyone on that play. I've seen #77 on the ground so many times I'm starting to wonder if he's part of the field.riggofan wrote:Honestly I'm not calling Gruden an imbecile on this. No, in fairness to Gruden I can't blame him for a pass I could have made that Alex Smith completely botched. But the offense is far too conservative for a team with nothing to lose by opening up the playbook. The worst that happens is you turn the ball over. With this defense even that isn't so bad. This defense appears to be legitimate. A good passing QB will probably test them a lot more than running teams or teams with Eli Manning so I hope the plan is to score more than 20 points next week.
