More than I realized. Given that Cousins was never going to re-sign, I like Alex Smith. Don't like losing Fuller but like Smith.

Anybody know anything about some of these other guys?

Sounds like pre-season fodder. I hope I'm wrong.

But hey at least we're rebuilding again now, officially. No more waisting time with the QB situation.

List of Redskin players who have left as free agents:

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/foo ... 9a6437c34b
Nearly all of the remaining members of the team’s 2014 draft class signed deals elsewhere. Linebacker Trent Murphy (a 2014 second-round pick), center Spencer Long (third round), cornerback Bashaud Breeland (fourth round) and wide receiver Ryan Grant (fifth round) participated in the mass exodus.

<snip>

Veteran tight end Niles Paul, however, has apparently seen his time in Washington come to an end after six seasons as he reportedly will sign with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Looks like the Redskins re-signed Zach Brown. A small bit of common-sense bubbles to the surface at Redskin HQ.
The Redskins will bring back interior linebacker Zach Brown. Brown and the Redskins agreed Thursday to a three-year contract worth up to $24 million.

Confirmed Zach Brown’s back with #Redskins ... per @RapSheet, it’s a 3-year deal worth a max of $24M

Brown was the Redskins’ leading tackler last season with 127, despite missing the final three games because of injury.

“That’s exciting,” Redskins Coach Jay Gruden said. “We were getting a little nervous here. Everybody was getting ready to sign and Zach was holding out on us. But we’re glad to have Zach back.

“Having him in a second year in this system is very important. I think he’ll be a lot more comfortable. And I think coach [Greg] Manusky will know what we have and get Mason Foster next to him making the calls and helping him out. I think it’s a great fit. We love the speed, love his athleticism. Getting him back here for another year is important to our defense.”

The interior linebacker came to the Redskins from the Buffalo Bills, where he was coming off a Pro Bowl season. He played the 2017 season on a one-year “prove it” deal in Washington. A common thought was that the Redskins wouldn’t be willing to match the price Brown was seeking.

<snip>

Having Brown back should help improve a run defense that ranked last in the NFL against the run, allowing 134.1 yards per game. The Redskins are still in the market for an interior defensive lineman to assist with stopping the run.

Washington had already lost a starting linebacker in Trent Murphy, who signed with the Bills for a reported three years and $21 million.

I agree welch - Zach Brown was possibly the MVP for the Redskins last season

AND, to their credit, the Redskins FO did well to NOT sign Cousins to a long term deal, we now don't have to put up with a QB that lost a number of games we should have won - especially against division rivals

I'm actually looking forward to watching Alex Smith show that he's a better QB than Captain Kirk
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

OK guys...NO more Kirk talk, who cares about him? He plays for the Vikings now.

I watched Alex Smith's intro conference -- he comes across like a really smart qb who will end up being a President for a team one day - Ala Mark Murphy.

Maybe we can get 4 years out of him as starter, one more year as trainer of next qb -- then fire Bruce Allen and hire him...haha

I'm seeing some press that people think we're losing too much home grown talent and blaming Allen.

I actually see it the other way -- Allen is picking and choosing who to keep and doing a really good job with the cap.

Long and Lauvo -- marginal starters, really just backups.
Paul -- good special teams player and great guy. 3rd TE.
Murphy -- backup who missed all of last year - Anderson is younger. Trent got a big contract.
Grant -- 4th wr. I'd take him back for 1/2 the Ravens deal.
Breeland -- good player, a #2 CB. Moreau could end up being better for less. NOT worth the money Panthers gave him. Now that he's not going there, I'd consider him for something less than 7 mil per year.
Kirk -- refuse to get into that...Alex is our guy and cost 13 mil less in 18.

While I don't love Danny and Bruce and Doug, I'm wondering if someone else is involved in player personnel decisions as I'm pretty happy. Get a DL and RB starter in draft, we'll be good. We might still sign a vet CB and heard Ty might start at RG...

We could be really good...barring massive injuries again.

are you kidding ... there's a reason this franchise is regarded as a joke - nothing changes until Dan Snyder gets rid of Allen and brings in a new president and GM and lets them make ALL the decisions on who plays and coaches here just like most other franchises do

IF those guys don't do their jobs, you bring in someone else - this idiot owner needs to stop interfering with the product on the field

I disagree.. Allen is a fantastic numbers guy.

All of our moves thus far are all actually very solid management of the cap and roster...

But but Snyder is the devil! Get over it... He aint selln

Im looking forward to another FA or 2 and hope the FO drafts a solid class this year

I am not kidding...where did I go wrong? Allen is bad? Tell me what moves he did he shouldn't have done or moves he should have made? You wanted to pay Trent Murphy like a a starter? You want to overpay Grant?

Seriously, tell me a move they've made this off season you disagree with?

Meant to say -- While not a fan of Snyder, I don't think he's nearly as involved as he was --and it's showing. We aren't trying to win the off season with big name guys, we are making prudent moves -- seems to me, he might have realized he needs to stay out.

Yeah, he was a real problem for the first decade or so.

I'm not happy with having Bruce Allen and Dan Snyder making all the decisions - why even have Doug Williams here?

the win/loss record for the Redskins under Dan Snyder management and guidance speaks volumes

I have nothing against the players or coaches we have but until they get better leadership I don't see this franchise getting any better
It is almost impossible to believe that Dan Snyder might sell the franchise - but it's not impossible that he might stop hurting the franchise

I can be a Redskins fan and at the same time accept that we're going to not be any good while Dan Snyder keeps interfering

I could be wrong about Dan Snyder but .... we'll see

screw that

I'm not feeling bad about things here, there's nothing I can do about it or about how much I love my Redskins

I'm also going to continue to point out why things are the way they are here :nana:

How about we focus on TRANSACTIONS in this thread ???!!! Plenty of other places to vilify Snyder and the FO.
Paul Richardson - WR - Redskins
Redskins agreed to terms with WR Paul Richardson on a five-year, $40 million contract.

Per NFL.com's Mike Garofolo, the deal includes $20 million guaranteed. With Allen Robinson and Sammy Watkins already spoken for, Richardson had a claim to being the market's top remaining wideout. A true burner, injuries repeatedly slowed Richardson's development in Seattle, but he finally put it all together and broke out last season. He will command attention down the field in Washington, helping Jordan Reed, Jamison Crowder and Chris Thompson over the middle, as well as Josh Doctson on the outside. With Alex Smith at quarterback and so many mouths to feed on offense, Richardson could have a hard time equalling his 2017 slash of 44/703/6.
Brian Quick - WR - Redskins
Redskins re-signed WR Brian Quick.

Quick caught just six passes for 76 yards in his first season in D.C. last year.
Zach Brown - LB - Redskins
Redskins re-signed ILB Zach Brown to a three-year, $24 million contract.

Brown had been seeking "top-three inside linebacker" money but didn't get there. He is getting a significant raise on 2017's $2.3 million. Brown was all over the field last season before missing the final three games with a shin injury. He's a three-down player who wraps up tackles and generates a decent amount of sacks and turnovers.
Orlando Scandrick - DB - Redskins
Redskins signed CB Orlando Scandrick to a two-year contract.

Per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the deal has a max value of $10 million. Scandrick's play has slipped in recent years, primarily due to injuries. He just turned 31 years old and will replace Kendall Fuller as Washington's slot corner. Fantasy leaguers should proactively start slot receivers against the Skin this year.
