2017 Rule Changes

Post by Burgundy&GoldForever »

Owners just passed a resolution eliminating the 75-man cutdown. NOw there will be one cutdown from 90 to 53.

Owners passed resolution to allow two players to come off IR in-season, which was the expectation. Current rule allows one.

The NFL has passed a rule change moving overtime from 15 minutes to 10 minutes, per league official.

Up until this change, the other recent changes made for longer overtimes. :hmm:

They probably made this latest one in the name of safety ... I'm not buying.

Huge Rule Change directly from Roger Goodell:
Today, we are excited to tell you about another change that comes after conversations with more than 80 current and former players: we are relaxing our rules on celebrations to allow players more room to have fun after they make big plays.

We know that you love the spontaneous displays of emotion that come after a spectacular touchdown. And players have told us they want more freedom to be able to express themselves and celebrate their athletic achievements.

So here are a few examples of celebrations that will be allowed after scores under the new policy:
Using the football as a prop after a TD

Celebrating on the ground

Group demonstrations
In my conversations with NFL players, it was also clear how much our players care about sportsmanship, clean competition, and setting good examples for young athletes. That is why offensive demonstrations, celebrations that are prolonged and delay the game, and those directed at an opponent, will still be penalized.

We know we have more work to do. We are grateful to the many current and retired players who engaged with us on this topic and we look forward to ongoing dialogue with them as we continue to work to improve this game we all love.

Thank you for your support.

They continue to do nothing to actually improve the game... but self-serving, contrived celebrations are embraced? What is wrong with "Act like you've done it before"? I miss the days when the just tossed the ball to the ref.

I miss the days when they actually had to touch the ball down in the end zone. OK, I wasn't actually around for those days but I still miss them. They've taken this thinking they're entertainers thing way too far.

You know what's entertaining? Winning playoff games.

NFL passed a rule that team owners shall be barred from "dancing" in the owners' boxes of all stadiums. To include "jumping around". Resolution passed on a 31-1 vote.

Back in the 80's I remember a certain team doing a war dance in the end zone after scoring a TD. I like seeing the different personalities come out. It's not like those that don't celebrate are being told you have to make a production out of it. Everyone is different and trying to control the game, by saying you can't show any emotion after scoring is retarded IMO

I would suggest that a display of emotion does not require ludicrous choreography. When #43, Larry Brown, #42 Charlie Taylor, or #49 Bobby Mitchell scored, you knew they were happy without any crap in the end zone.

I find your use of the word retarded a bit ironic, when I consider some of the displays of ego that I have seen...

Spot on
AND
thinking that the NFL is
trying to control the game by saying you can't show any emotion after scoring
is retarded IMO

spontaneous emotion by players (after making a great play or scoring) varies a lot and IMO is a part of the game
orchestrated demonstrations by ego driven players are a waste of time (and should be penalized IMO for bad sportsmanship)
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

I'm glad we disagree. Football is entertainment, and I like seeing some of the stronger personalities display how they want to celebrate. Obviously there is a time to be "retarded" and a time to let everyone else know you will celebrate however you damn well please!

no offense to the Fun Bunch and all they did - I prefer the Larry Brown TD celebration to the Charlie Brown (Fun Bunch) offering

Yes, well, some of us would prefer the Hall Of Fame get off their dead asses and elect Larry Brown but that's another discussion entirely.

Yes, and we know the reason they refuse to elect Jerry Smith, which is complete nonsense because it has nothing to do with football.
