I don't think the issue is that they were bad players. Just a giant reach at #6, more so considering the players we didn't take.HEROHAMO wrote:Landry and Rogers are far from being bad picks.
Landry played well while he was here. Also had a great playoff game vs Seattle 2ints.
Definitely should have kept him. Maybe things would have worked out for him here?

Frankly, I think that if Taylor had not died, Landry would have been a far better player. He was totally misused after that, cast to fill Taylor's impossibly huge shoes, and I think it got into his head. Then, it got all weird...riggofan wrote:I don't think the issue is that they were bad players. Re: Draft Talk - April 27, 2017
That's what I'm saying.
If we drafted Demarcus Ware or Aaron Rogers there's no guarantee they would of succeeded under this teams management.
Rogers benefited from watching Farve. His desire to become a starter forced him to either be better then Farve or not be the starter.
Very few players are able to succeed on bad teams. I don't think many teams were worse then ours in the past 20 years. I would say the worst managed teams in the past 20 years have been the Browns and Redskins.
I would say Snyder has been by far the worst decision maker. He's learning though finally after 20 years.
But honestly you, I and the fan base know how many things Snyder has done that leaves people scratching their heads.
The team has drafted very talented players. It's been the bad management that was holding the team back for all those years.
I can name a roster full of pro bowl caliber talent that's been in DC before these past two years. Only the Qb until Kirk has been suspect.
LT Jim Lachey, Chris Samuels
G Tre Johnson , Randy Thomas
C?
RT Jon Jansen
Rb Clinton Portis, Stephen Davis, Brian Mitchell, Larry Centers, Terry Allen
WR Alvin Harper, Santana Moss
TE Chris Cooley
Qb Brad Johnson, Hostetler, Brunell, Ferrotte
Defense
DT Dan Wilkinson, Sean Gilbert, Dana Stubblefield, Cornielius Griffin
DE Kenard Lang
LB Ken Harvey, Antonio Pierce, Lavar Arrington, Marcus Washington, Kurt Gouviea
CB Darrell Green, Champ Bailey, Chris Cushman, Fred Smoot, Sean Springs, Carlos Rogers
S Stanley Richards, Sean Taylor, Landry
Even with Cerratto and Snyder the team still had talent in the ten year span from 99-2009.
If we had a great coach and GM we could of kept a good core of those players.
The Oline was definitely could of been one of the best.
Samuels, Tre Johnson, Randy Thomas and Jon Jansen. That's four pro bowl caliber players. Lachey was hurt in his latter years.
Running backs another talented group. Terry Allen was amazing till he got hurt. But we still managed to draft Stephen Davis. Traded for Portis who is very underrated in Skins history. Also had Brian Mitchell still going and Larry Centers.
Wide receivers was a weak point during that time. All though Alvin Harper and Ellard could of been ok with the right coach.
Tight end, Cooley was very solid.
Now comes defense. Really no excuse. The Redskins acquired plenty of talent on defense to have had a great defense.
If we had a good GM.
We could of had Dan Wilkinson DT who was one of the best in the league. Sean Gilbert DT and Dana Stubblefield at DT rotation.
Linebackers a very talented group.
Ken Harvey, Antonio Pierce and Lavar Arrington. That could of been legendary.
Defensive backs. Oooh
Darrell Green was still solid. Chris Cushman was one of the best in the league. Richard was still solid as well.
If we had a solid GM and coach much of those players might of stuck together.
Just trying to point out that it was more the teams management rather than the players.

Nope I agree 100% with what you're saying. Aaron Rogers might have been the next Tim Couch if he'd been drafted by Washington.HEROHAMO wrote:That's what I'm saying.

I think though if you look at that list of players we didn't draft to take Laron Landry instead: Patrick Willis, Marshawn Lynch, Darrelle Revis, AP; you gotta admit that talent evaluation and a smart draft strategy were at least part of the problem.
On the plus side, we weren't the team that drafted Jamarcus Russel that year.

I'm really not sure. Landry was already on the juice by any reasonable estimation. Any medical professional worth his or her weight in eggshells will tell you that PEDs cause premature damage to the tendons and cartilage.Countertrey wrote:Frankly, I think that if Taylor had not died, Landry would have been a far better player. But something tells me you already knew that since you were in the medical field.

While what you say is true, it's also true that he raised it to Level: TOTAL FREAK only after his Achilles...Burgundy&GoldForever wrote:I'm really not sure. True. Funny, even if Sean Taylor and Laron Landry had played a full career in D.C. we'd be looking for their replacements now. Time flies.

Re: Draft Talk - April 27, 2017
no matter who this franchise drafts or brings in to coach or play, they don't have the "leadership" or any accountability - we need to become a place where both coaches and players really want to be ... unfortunately, with Snyder & Allen in charge, that's just not happening
until this franchise shows that NFL guys are in charge AND coaches & players will be held accountable, nothing much more can be expected
until this franchise shows that NFL guys are in charge AND coaches & players will be held accountable, nothing much more can be expected
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

Just to clarify..... you mean to say that if Taylor had not died, Landry would have been far better than Landry (himself), not better than Taylor...? Am I right? The 2 of them could have been a tough tandem....... it's just a sad case altogether. Re: Draft Talk - April 27, 2017
Yes... frankly I think they would have become a Pro-Bowl tandem, with Landry left to punish closer to the line, and knowing that Taylor would cover any mistake. He would have been free to do what we know he could do best... hit people, and cover the odd Tight end or terrified slot receiver...tribeofjudah wrote:Just to clarify..... you mean to say that if Taylor had not died, Landry would have been far better than Landry (himself), not better than Taylor...?
