Re: Cousins requesting trade
I am sure as many of you have given me plenty of crap about my past stance on Cousins, I admit I was never a fan, however the last two years proves that Cousins has been the best QB since Snyder brought this team. I also understand the talent around him also assisted with his maturation. Now I want to see if he is able to duplicate it without Garcon and Jackson. That is when we will surely know if he is deserving. The issue is if he is we are screwed either way because as I see it, it's going to take 26 million a year to have him even consider signing a LTD. Personally I think with the 40 plus million he has received these last two years there is no way he signs here and rides off into the sunset next year. My only issue is how he plays this year. I say that because I have heard if he doesn't ball out this year it lowers his value. Sorry I don't really agree there has never been a Franchised QB that had BOTH his starting receivers leave and then have a reasonable expectation to provide the same stats. Chemistry is big and sorry Doctson and Crowder, Harris and Grant don't scare me or any other DC. Davis is 1 year older and there is no guarantee that Reed stays healthy. Heck we haven't even signed Moses yet so the OL is a slight concern as well. Based on past experience with Snyder owning the Redskins and the fact that every Redskin that goes to another team becomes an all pro, I see this year being a 2-14 year and Snyder will screw up the number 1 pick they will get next year as Colt McCoy becomes our starter and we still won't have a good Defense. I say trade Cousins, anything gotten better than a 4th round pick is a win.

So does Cousins signing the FT today mean a trade is about to happen?riggofan wrote:Oh this is getting good:

Signing the tag and then saying he won't sign a long term deal seems like he's trying to force a trade. Doesn't mean anything is about to happen.DEHog wrote:So does Cousins signing the FT today mean a trade is about to happen?

Re: Cousins requesting trade
I ask because Cousins does give up a little leverage. The Skins can now find a team (of their choosing) to trade Cousins to and he doesn't have a say now. Whereas before he could have refused to sign the FT. May be that at this point he just wants out.riggofan wrote:Signing the tag and then saying he won't sign a long term deal seems like he's trying to force a trade. He does have a say. If the Browns offer two first round picks, Cousins can just say: "I'm not going to sign a long term deal with the Browns". The Browns are not giving us two picks for one year of Kirk Cousins.DEHog wrote:I ask because Cousins does give up a little leverage. Doesn't matter... if the team will take the trade thinking they can sign him, Cousins doesn't have a say. Doubtful that would happen just saying he gave up a little leveage.

Re: Cousins requesting trade
Signing the tender is just sending a clearer picture to the Redskins that he wants out ...
Cleveland is better managed than we are
- that Osweiler move was a PLUS - they are not giving up 2 #1 picks for Cousins
Cleveland is better managed than we are

Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)
Re: Cousins requesting trade
Stop being hysterical Mark. Snyder is a billionaire owner of the Redskins, which is one of the most valuable franchises in the NFL regardless that he has an overrated QB and the dumbest HC in the league. He's pretty smart.markshark84 wrote:hitmandm wrote:So Snyder denying the pick machine's trade request is just creating leverage. It is very smart.![]()
Nothing Snyder ever does could be considered "smart".
It has become clear that Snyder & Allen are the reason Cousins wasn't signed last year. They could have signed him to a deal similar to what Glennon is getting ----- Mike F#$%ing Glennon. I don't think I even need to go into the established track record Snyder has in ruining this organization over and over for 20 years.
The skins have absolutely no leverage. Cousins even reduced his trade value by ASKING for a trade. No package they will get is anything close to what they would have had they signed him to a LTD last year and then wanted to trade him. Denying his trade is akin to Belicheck's "I'm not trading Grappolo" talk ---- everyone on the ENTIRE PLANET KNOWS IT'S BULLSH!T. The only people Snyder is fooling are guys as stupid as he is --- and guess what: there aren't any.
And if you see how SF is packaging their FA signings ---- it is VERY VERY clear they are more than ok with waiting until next season to sign him to a deal Snyder and his b!tch-boy won't match. This is why Snyder can't have nice things.
And if SF is a "debacle" ----- WTF are the skins??????? SF has what appears to be a good GM, one of the best OFF minds in the game, and a clear plan on how to proceed with rebuilding (which is very clear based on the moves they are doing --- I have a similar sentiment to when Scot came in and started making all those moves to clear up cap space, get rid of aging players, keep draft picks, invest in the right players, etc). And on the other hand, we are a total sh!tshow having already destroyed the winning roster Scot put together.![]()
And if you are on the side of Snyder and calling him "smart" ---- I think that says a lot about your ability to evaluate or opine on personnel moves.
Scot is a drunk who couldn't draft, couldn't evaluate FA and have left the Redskins in a poor place in the QB department. How can the Redskins be over such a barrel with such and meh QB? He takes a Guard at 5? No one does that. So stupid.
I have seen this coming for years. You and others here don't want to listen to other points of view then you write 5 paragraphs whining about when you are wrong. Its pretty ridiculous to think a GM will come in here and wrest control from an Owner. I'm pretty sure that Ive tried to explain that here before. Gruden will be gone due to this fact as well.
Snyder has not been a successful owner. But how this played out was always clear. Cosuins limitations are clear. So is Grudens. It was never going to end up differently.
Re: Cousins requesting trade
He is not Elway or Marino. He is a pick machine because he throws picks when it counts. Look at last years last game. Look at the Pro bowl. Watch any MNF. They guy chokes and throws picks. Bars in DC offered free drinks for every KC pick at one time. Dinking high % passes and choking when it counts isn't an elite QBtribeofjudah wrote:Body of work: why is Kirk a "pick machine"...?

Re: Cousins requesting trade
The Redskins are one of the most valuable franchised in spite of Snyder not because of him. You or I could make money owning an NFL team! Have you been to FedEx lately, the upper bowl s a ghost town,, the end zones of the club level are covered up and if it weren’t for opposing fans a quarter of the seats would be empty. That is a direct result of Snyder owning the team!!hitmandm wrote:

Re: Cousins requesting trade
So, not so much a demand or even a request...
http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/20 ... ton-owner/
Cousins said on Adam Schefter of ESPN’s podcast that he asked Snyder if he was going to be traded, but Snyder told him they wanted to keep him there. And that fell well short of the report he asked for a trade, which Cousins learned about while shoe shopping with his wife.
“I laughed and thought, ‘I don’t know where that comes from because that wasn’t the case,'” Cousins said. “Somehow it got twisted to where an employee of the store is using the word demanded. That’s not the approach I took. . . .
“In this league, things change so fast and players can get blindsided all the time with decisions. They’ll cut you on your birthday. They’ll cut you on the day your child is born. They’ll cut you on Christmas Eve. You never know what will happen. I’ll always keep an open mind so I won’t get blindsided, but from what I heard in conversations, I felt very much supported and felt the owner and president of the team want me to be the quarterback there and to be the quarterback there for a long time.”

Re: Cousins requesting trade
Kirk claims he never asked for trade:
Cousins claims he never demanded trade
On Adam Schefter's Know Them From Adam podcast, franchise-tagged Kirk Cousins claimed he never demanded a trade to owner Dan Snyder.
"I did inquire if there was any interest in trading me to get an understanding of their perspective," Cousins said. "The answer I got back was Mr. Snyder communicated his belief in me and desire for me to remain a Redskin." It is possible he never "demanded" a trade, but there has been too much smoke about Cousins wanting to get out of Washington for there not to be any fire. It still seems unlikely the two sides work out a long-term extension before the July 15 deadline.

Well, that is a relief to hear. For a while, it seemed like things were spinning totally out of control.
