While I LOVE Rypien, and Theismann's career was cut short, neither were great, long term QBs. Williams was the anomaly as he had 2 mediocre at best playoff games followed by perhaps that greatest game ever played by a SB QB.......and reverted back to medicority to below average play.
Its pretty amazing to consider. Let's see Belichick win one without Brady!!!
Well, we saw what he could do without Brady ---- a record of 41-56.....and 1 playoff win
That is what makes Gibbs so incredible. You give Belichick the Gibbs teams, he wins 1 SB at best.
I'm kinda liking what I'm seeing out of these 2 ... let's see what the consensus opinion is after they win another
there's no doubt in my mind that Bill would have got a lot more out of Cousins the last 4 years

Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)
Maybe negotiations are scheduled for AFTER the probowl that Kirk just played in? Or maybe, just maybe, AFTER the super bowl??
Has there been any huge blockbuster deals made so far, not counting any coaches or GMs?? Serious question. The football year isn't even over and people are going nuts about this.
I say let time tell us what the future holds, not guess about worst case scenarios.
I know our season is over... doesn't mean we have to listen to all the click bait and stress over the crickets chirping in the background.
Kirk just threw a should be first down possible td... that was instead a game ending interception. He also chased Talib down for a strip tackle to give the NFC another chance.
Can't say an "all for fun game" coached by The YesMan Jason Garrett, will have any bearing on negotiating a long term deal though... lol

“When I look at Kirk Cousins, I think he’s probably their best player,” Jon Gruden said during the Pro Bowl, adding, “He’s guy you can win with. I think he’s going nowhere.”
Gruden also said that Cousins is “due for a huge contract,” which seems noteworthy, given that Gruden’s brother happens to be the head coach of the Redskins.

just like there are a lot of fans that don't think Tom Brady is the GOAT ... and, he is
So, if you really believe Brady is the GOAT, then you could see why people might not give Billy B. that much credit. Not saying he's not a great coach, but sometimes the QB carries the coach along with the team. (see Elway and Shanahan).
there's no point in 'what if' - Bill did what he did with who he had, same as Joe and same as Vince = 1, 2 and 3 - GOAT

did Kirk Cousins play really well, and show that he's a really good QB?

I thought he did fine. Jimmy Graham dropped a perfectly thrown touchdown pass and later caused an INT when he tipped another well-thrown pass near the goal line. So his stat line could have been a lot better than it turned out, through no fault of his own. I loved the hustle on the interception play: Kirk chased down the DB from behind and tackled / stripped him of the ball.
Of course, it's just the Pro Bowl. Hard to say how anyone really did. Cousins had already shown us everything he needed to. Pay the man.

Yes, if anyone was basing contract decisions based on the Pro Bowl we are seriously screwed!!!

I doubt that 'anyone' took anything anyone did as worthy of note but if Cousins had lit it up, I can guarantee that some here would have been all over it

He did well enough that if someone wanted to, they could definitely brag on him. He did better than the other NFC QBs, IMO. See IB's notes above. I suspect you looked at his stat line, and decided to try and needle certain posters about his performance, but as we all know, stats don't always paint an accurate picture.
Andre Carter wrote:Damn man, you know your football.
no I did not look at any stats and I had no idea if he played great or not - I did not see any part of this game
just wanted to know how he did ... glad to hear he played better than any of the other QBs ... not that it means anything

He lived up to his name- Captain Pick.
I take it you didn't watch the game. The ball was perfectly thrown, but went through Jimmy Graham's hands. Then Kirk chased down the defender, preventing a TD, and stripped him of the ball.

^^ so it wasn't really an interception, it was a drop ... it's always something

It was deflected (off a nicely thrown ball to a pro bowl TE, who muffed it).. and intercepted by a probowl db.
Also of note, the previous drive stalled due to the number 1 puke, er #88... who also brick handed a perfect pass on 2ND or 3rd down to prevent a first down... immediately blamed the sun; in a dome of course!
Kirk looked better then first stringer Dak, by miles.. and as good as Mr Breezy, if not better.
Kirk is 100% the best qb we have, and worth 150MIL or what ever it takes. Sorry.

It's NOT a matter of what he's 'worth' - he's worth a lot but he's NOT worth paying so much money that we don't have the money to pay all the others
AND
He's NOT worth paying a lot of money to keep him when he doesn't want to be here
AND
As you pointed out "he coud've played better" last season - WTF - really good QBs are driven to succeed no matter what they're paid
get out of here - it's not a matter of money - Sonny, Joe and Ryp all played to win not just for the money and they didn't have the football talent of Cousins - what they had was a better head for the game - that makes them better QBs than this spoilt brat

Why would he want to be somewhere where he is apparently not wanted or valued?
You keep writing this, but its nonsense. Kirk - like 99% of everyone else in the world - wants to be somewhere that he is wanted and respected. If the team steps up with a long term contract that says "you're our quarterback", I have no doubt he'll reciprocate.

The FO will make Cousins a long term offer for a lot of money
IF the FO don't think he's worth paying what it takes to keep him here, that's OK with me
IF Cousins feels that he's not wanted here, there's really nothing more to do, that's OK with me too - even more so
IF Cousins and the FO want to make this happen it will happen and we'll still be able to pay all the other players well too

Thanks for the definitive list of things that might or might not happen unless they do or don't.

I feel strongly both ways.

I'm with you. I will be thrilled when they sign Cousins and also deeply satisfied emotionally when they don't.

It's better for the franchise if they can keep him but I'm still hoping we make that deal with the 49ers and see what Kyle can do with him and what our FO can do with the 49ers 2nd pick in this draft and their 1st next year
