Gibbs Post-Game, Washington at St. Louis
August 27, 2004
Opening Statement:
"That was a very dominating performance by the Rams. It just wasn't us. It wasn't Redskins football. I give them credit. They ran the ball. The Rams dominated every portion of the game. It starts with me right on down. We didn't play Redskins football and we paid the price for it. We'll get home, take a look at the film and see what we think."
On Chris Samuels' injury:
"From what doctors told me, it was a slight sprain of the ankle."
On Patrick Ramsey's performance:
"We just need to look at the film. We were hit or miss all the way around. I think Patrick made some good plays. We'll just get in there, look at the film and see how we all did. In general, when you play this bad, it's all of us together. That's the main thing."
On defending St. Louis's speedy wide receivers:
"I think they're very fast. We knew coming in they were a very speedy group of receivers. We felt like this was going to be a big test for us because they are fast. Their whole team, when you look at it, even their defense and special teams are extremely quick. I think they've done a good job in getting a lot of speed at receiver and really all the way across the board. We had trouble matching up against it."
On whether he's concerned about his defensive secondary:
"Anytime you get beat like that, you're concerned."
On what he'll look for in game film so that the team can improve:
"Obviously there'll be a lot to learn from in the film. For all of us, we have to realize that if we don't play tough, hard-nosed, smart Redskins football, there's a chance we can have this [kind of loss] happen to us. Hopefully it'll be a lesson for all of us."
On if there was a turning point in the game:
"I certainly don't think it was any one play. It was probably my fault for not getting the guys ready. So it starts with me and certainly we'll need to bounce back from that. Certainly that hasn't been the kind of performance we've had in three other weeks."
On evaluating the quarterbacks in preseason:
"It's been a process and every practice we've studied and taken note of. There'll come a point here where we need to make a decision."
On who will start next week's Atlanta Falcons game:
"Right now we're scheduled to start Mark Brunell."
On whether he was disappointed in the play of the defensive line:
"You could probably say we were disappointed in every single phase. We didn't run the ball well. I didn't feel like we did much on offense. On defense we struggled. It's hard to pick out one thing. I can't think on anything we really did well."
