Redskins New OC: Matt Cavanaugh

Post by tribeofjudah »

Report: Redskins promoting Cavanaugh to OC
The Redskins are going with an internal candidate to fill the vacant offensive coordinator role, per a report.

So what's the good/bad/ugly on this guy?

This could still happen, but it looks like a speculative article to me. The article was posted almost 17 hours ago and I don't see any other websites reporting the news so I will believe it when I see it

I'm sure the new OC will be fine whomever he is - the key is to keep Bill Callahan and find a way to have a decent run game next season
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

Is Cavanaugh the guy we see talking to Cousins on the sidelines?

Both McVay and Cavanaugh talk to Cousins during the game

Well be fine on offense if it's Cavanaugh. Keep adding to the Oline get the running game going. Keep Kirks progression going. A nice running game would balance this offense.

I'm sorry - this was obviously a joke - there is a thread about Norv that DEHog is being absolutely so patient with ...

Have we interviewed anyone else of note? I saw that we haven't interviewed any minorities or something for either position.. I'm thinking we hire from within tho... but man I'd like someone from NE. Any of Billichecks underlings would be an upgrade, even the water boy!

ROTFALMAO ROTFALMAO The possibility of that is actually better than the possibility of him returning to the Redskins is 100,000 times more possible than he even getting nominated for the Hall Of Fame.

I don't think the HOF is letting Norv in, even if he pays for a ticket

I think there's close to zero chance of Norv returning. But if he were to return as offensive coordinator, I would not mind at all. The guy has talent in that role, but not as a head coach.

At least Norv Turner won us a playoff game. More then Gruden has managed to do.

Norv may be a lot of things but his offense is usually balanced. If I remember correctly we had Stephen Davis at the time and he was amongst the leaders in rushing.

I'd take a Norv offense over this underachieving offense any day of the week. Heck I'd love a top rushing attack with a Brad Johnson type qb. That is if we get a top ten defense as well.

Heck I'd love an offense led by Aaron Rodgers and a defense like the Bears of 85 - we'd have a chance to win the NFC East again

there is not a chance in hell that Norv Turner will be on the Redskins side of the field again - not even with a microphone

Cavanaugh is officially the new OC.

He won't call plays. 8-[

Yeah..... I could have guessed that. I prefer when HCs don't call plays, but I do think Gruden knows how to call plays well. We'll see though.....

Jay Gruden has proven that he is a good offensive play caller - some HCs prefer not to call plays, a Gruden/Cousins combination might be better than we think - how hard would it be for Gruden to be a better play caller than McVay

If Gruden thinks that he's hurting the offense, he will turn the play calling over to Matt

My issue is that Gruden doesn't manage a game well, now he's going to call plays? OK, just make sure you have someone managing the game!
