Re: NEW DC?
Todd Bowles. But he isn't available.
Wade Phillips would be OK but a) he might be pissed he was rejected in favor of Joe Barry and b) he's old.

Re: NEW DC?
Any chance they promote from within…Manusky and Olivadotti have made the cut so far??

Re: NEW DC?
I would really like to see some younger/fresh faces that interview for the Redskins DC position rather than the typical NFL merry-go-round journeyman hire
Re: NEW DC?
I hope we get a competent veteran DC to come in with most of his own staff. The HC and OC are new at their roles, so the team may benefit from some been-there-done-that stability.

As of now they are position coaches and still subject to the discretion of the new DC.DEHog wrote:Any chance they promote from within…Manusky and Olivadotti have made the cut so far??
The last time they took someone who was way underqualified and promoted him we had Jim Zorn. I really don't see Dan Snyder being onboard with another one of those moves.

Re: NEW DC?
I want a new DC but I don't think it's likely.
But hey I'd take Wade in a heartbeat. Greg Williams or someone on the Seattle staff.

I'm not sure that anyone would have done much better - If Jay is OK with Joe Barry, let's just add some players
if heads have to roll because of what happened on the field, then someone on the offensive side has a lot to answer for as well - what the hell happened offensively in those last 2 home games that were so critical to our season?

Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

Thank God.
Re: NEW DC?
Manusky has more experience than Barry did as a DC that's the only reason I brought it up.Burgundy&GoldForever wrote:As of now they are position coaches and still subject to the discretion of the new DC.DEHog wrote:Any chance they promote from within…Manusky and Olivadotti have made the cut so far??

someone who can get the MOST out of our current/future players.

Re: NEW DC?
(1) Gregg Williams. He has done the job before, and should have been made head coach when Joe Gibbs retired. Perhaps Gruden is afraid of having a DC who is older and more qualified, but if Gruden is replaced after the 2017 season, Williams would be ready for HC job. (Gruden afraid? How did Washington get Barry rather than Wade Phillips?)
(2) Manusky: the Gibbs connection. Since Richie Petibon will not suddenly get 30 years younger, pick someone who learned from Petibon.

Re: NEW DC?
Old schmold! It's not like he's a player. He practically invented the 3-4, and his defenses have topped the league wherever he has coached, Denver included.Burgundy&GoldForever wrote:Todd Bowles. But he isn't available.

Re: NEW DC?
Anyone is an upgrade over what we had.. he was able to adjust at times, others the announcers knew he shouldn't put them in a certain formation... and well he would, and then dullass would score

Re: NEW DC?
My picks:
1. Wade Phillips
2. Wade Phillips
3. Wade Phillips
I am not a fan of a Ryan hire (either of them) as they were both mediocre to below avg. DCs.
I am not high on Bradley as his SEA DEF greatly improved AFTER he left.
I am not a huge fan of Manusky either as I don't see him as a drastic "improvement".
I know nothing about Wilks, but based on our current DEF situation, I would prefer someone who is more seasoned and has experience in a leadership position. He hasn't had a true "leadership" position since 1999. We are a playoff contender and I don't want to experiment. Let's get someone we KNOW will be an improvement. If we can't get Phillips, I'd entertain it only because he is an unknown commodity.

Re: NEW DC?
The NC DB coach should be an upgrade. They lost Norman, and he had 2 rookies playing solid by the end of the year

True. As long as they get a whole bunch of players that can play defense.EA7649 wrote:True. Whoever we get will be an upgrade thoughcowboykillerzRGiii wrote:The NC DB coach should be an upgrade. They lost Norman, and he had 2 rookies playing solid by the end of the year

Re: NEW DC?
I don't think we're that short on talent. We're a disruptive lineman and a decent free safety away from being pretty solid, talent-wise. Many of the problems came from poor coaching, IMHO.SkinsJock wrote:True. As long as they get a whole bunch of players that can play defense.EA7649 wrote:True. Re: NEW DC?
I don't know how the answer isn't one of these 2
1) Wade Phillips, the guy has success everywhere he goes, and just had 2 years of an ultra successful defense in Denver
2 ) Greg Williams, he already proved it HERE in Washington that he can build an awesome defense, and he is AGGRESSIVE which we need here. Plus I've heard that despite his snub from before, him and Snyder are still pretty close.
Ultimately Jay is making the pick, his job is the one on the line as he is 1 maybe 2 unsuccessful seasons away from looking for a new job, and 1 playoff season away from a new contract. They are gonna let him live or die by his choice. Hope he picks right this time.

From the WaPo's Mike Jones -
"The Washington Redskins requested permission to interview Carolina Panthers assistant head coach Steve Wilks for their vacant defensive coordinator and the Panthers gave them the green light, a person with knowledge of the situation confirmed."
