Re: Matt Jones?
I'm not a Joe Barry fan but if Jay Gruden is the HC and he thinks that Joe Barry is the best fit for DC .. I'm OK with that
I understand the concern about the defense but I'm not sure the DC is the sole reason that the defense sucks
I'm also not ruling Matt Jones out of showing that he can be a productive RB that does not turn the ball over

Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

I don't think Barry is the problem at all. My thinking though is that we have sub-par talent on the defense. If getting the best DC possible can help raise their level of play, I'm all for it.SkinsJock wrote:I understand the concern about the defense but I'm not sure the DC is the sole reason that the defense sucks
Like you wrote though, if Gruden prefers to continue with Barry, I'm ok with it.

basically that's where I'm at - I'm not sure that we need a new DC as much as we need a huge makeover in personnelriggofan wrote:I don't think Barry is the problem at all. Absolutely! I wanted wade three years ago, then again, two years ago.riggofan wrote:While I'm usually very conservative about hiring/firing coaches, we should keep an eye on Wade Phillips. His contract is up after Sunday with the Broncos. Always felt he was the DC we should have gone after from the beginning.Deadskins wrote:Yeah, but Ryan sucks. I wouldn't want him to coach my team either.

I'd love a couple of guys instead of Joe Barry - Jim Schwartz and Wade Phillips would be good

Also, it seems that many (including me) feel good about HC Jay............ yes I want him to stay for stability and he has been a very productive HC.
So I think Jay stays ----- I don't get all the talk about "can Jay, fire Jay....etc. Shut up already to those people.

Damn, SJ. You write such reasonable things when the team is coming off a win! I hope the team doesn't screw up today and set you off!!!SkinsJock wrote:basically that's where I'm at - I'm not sure that we need a new DC as much as we need a huge makeover in personnel

There's always those people in DC. I don't know if its as bad in other cities or not.tribeofjudah wrote:Also, it seems that many (including me) feel good about HC Jay............ yes I want him to stay for stability and he has been a very productive HC.

If there's one thing I hope McCloughan has brought to this team, its some sanity. No single player or coach is going to come in here and turn the team around overnight. Make a plan - stick with it!

Re: Matt Jones?
in games that are as important as this, you find out who the real players are ...
right now Kirk Cousins agent is not happy because this is costing he and his player millions

halftime - the team didn't screw up - in order to screw up you need to show up - this is not good so farriggofan wrote:Damn, SJ. You write such reasonable things when the team is coming off a win! As much as I don't like Grudens coaching. I do think he deserves another year. I just fear more mediocrity..sigh..Smithian wrote:Jay Gruden is a win away from being the first Redskins coach to take them to the playoffs back to back years since Gibbs I. That's after a two year stretch where they won a total of 7 games. And he's done it with changes in the front office, defensive coordinator, and at QB. I'm a Jay Gruden fan. He's not Belichick but he's pretty dang solid.HEROHAMO wrote:All Gruden cares about is passing. That's it. He has no concept of a team winning as a whole.
And I don't know why anyone is surprised the Redskins are pass happy. Jay is part of the Mike Holmgren coaching tree. On down from there, Jon Gruden was known to get pass happy. Every assistant Jon Gruden had who's gone elsewhere has been pretty pass happy, like Trestman and Hackett. Even Bill Callahan, who handles our run game, was known to get too pass happy in Oakland and later at Nebraska. I think the Redskins staff wants to run but between having a pretty darn good passing game and an unsettled running back situation they find it too easy to go all in on the pass game.
The Joe Barry hire stood out to me as Gruden not wanting a competent DC who could possibly take his job. Just saying why wouldn't he hire a good DC? Why not now?
Maybe we draft Leonard Fournette? Jabril Peppers? Well see. I still am confident in Scott.
