Site Outage

Post by admin »

Obviously you were unable to use the site over the last 16-17 hours. The site was compromised, and shut down to prevent security exploits yesterday at about 5pm.

Unfortunately when these things happen, it is not always apparent exactly what has happened, and the only solution to clean up the problem, is to upgrade and re-install all of the major modules/features etc of the site.

So despite the lengthy delay, I assure you that I was working on it 12 minutes after the event, and right up until the site was brought back online this morning. It just took that long unfortunately.

It marks just the second time in 14 years that we've experienced a "significant outage", and to be honest, I'm pretty happy to have got things back online as quickly as I did.

You may experience a couple of poltergeists but hopefully everything's back to normal.

Look on the bright side, it dragged me out of the woodwork. :) #neverFarAway

We may need to upgrade this board software significantly again unfortunately, but I am going to try and push it to the offseason.

I'm going for a nap.

Hail to the Redskins. Hail to Redskins Nation. Hail to theHogs.net Community.

Peace.

I was hoping that the reset might somehow solve the spam problem, but I guess that was wishful thinking.

He'll need to increase the requirements for new member access, which will be a pretty big deal... Historically, BH has wanted to keep it as simple as possible... but the new legion of asshats is putting an end to that.

(1) It's great to hear from Boss again. You've been missed!

(2) After sending the admins notice of some of the recent garbage selling robot pseudo-members, I thought of a couple ways to make it harder for them to join THN. Sounds like the admins are already thinking through the problem. Hail to the admins and HTTR
