Times: Ailing knee keeps LaVar home again

Ailing knee keeps LaVar home again

Washington Redskins linebacker LaVar Arrington will remain home for a second straight preseason game today when the club travels to St. Louis for tomorrow night's contest against the Rams.
Arrington, sidelined with what is described as a mild sprain of his left knee, said he's "getting better" and expressed a bit of frustration he didn't get to practice and demonstrate his health.
"I felt like I was fine enough to prove to them that I could go," Arrington said, "but they weren't really trying to hear too much from me."
Were this a regular-season game, Arrington maintained, he definitely would play. Instead, he again has to cope with the frustration of watching teammates play on television.
"It's killing me right now," Arrington said. "It's got my nerves all bad. I'm trying to see the good in it, though. ... Hopefully, I'll get back next week, and they'll give me some snaps in this last preseason game [Sept. 3 against the Atlanta Falcons]."
Also remaining home are linebacker Mike Barrow (knee), tight end Fred Baxter (knee), linebacker Chris Clemons (hamstring), defensive end Phillip Daniels (abdomen), cornerback Walt Harris (calf) and offensive lineman Dwayne Morgan (knee).
Harris, the projected No. 3 cornerback, played only briefly in last weekend's 17-0 victory at Miami. His calf, strained Aug. 19 by "overcompensating" for a rehabilitating patella tendon, "didn't feel good at all" against the Dolphins. Still, he plans to return to practice Monday.
Running back Ladell Betts, who has yet to play in a preseason game because of a strained hamstring, will make the trip, but coach Joe Gibbs didn't know how many carries the third-year back would be able to take.
Betts, a 2002 second-round pick, is under increasing scrutiny because Washington's other running backs have performed well in the race to back up Clinton Portis. Rock Cartwright, Sultan McCullough and John Simon are vying for the role.
Guard Randy Thomas was the only player not practicing yesterday who plans to play in St. Louis. He characterized his absence as a rest day for his knee.
Note -- Portis presented the Redskins' offensive linemen with "Official Dirtbags" T-shirts that feature a lineman knee-deep in muck with flies buzzing around and the slogan, "They're stinkin' huge." The shirt also features a replica Portis signature.
Despite the "official" moniker, the shirts apparently will give way at some point to a version by assistant head coach for offense Joe Bugel, who named the original Hogs in the 1980s.
"It's cool," said tackle Kenyatta Jones, who was sporting the Portis version.
"I know Buges has a design that he wants to do, too. This is just the one we wear around here. This is just the appetizer."

Aren't most cases where a skill position player makes a big purchase for the linemen usually after they win the Super Bowl? Maybe he's saving his money for that! lol

I was trying to find info to back up my recollection, but didn't Sapp buy his fellow D-linemen in Tampa Rolex's or something similar? I couldn't remember if that immediately after their SB year or not. That's the only example I can think of off the top of my head.

Now, if Portis was coming off of a 1500-yard season and all he got the linemen was t-shirts, THAT would be cheap!

Of course, maybe he has to watch his money since he spent all that dough to get his jersey number for Ohalette!

Well BTP he has a silver spoon in his mouth. So for the money he is making so IMO . T-shirts are cheap. Nice but cheap.

I have read incidents were QB's and RB's did this for ther o-line during the preseason, before games and after superbowls. I have read where defensive people that were new to the team and got big contracts took out the whole defense for dinner.

LOL i wasnt trying to be neagtive for you information Jansen, It is what i said it is, it was kinda cheap. Kinda like eating $100 meal and leaving a 1 dollar tip. See here is the problem with you guys. Every time i say something, you think its just my opinion. When in fact its collective thoughts from the tons of redskin fans i am surronded by.
My dayum barber can afford to buy his 75, 85 and 100 pounders t-shirts. Come one now he gotta step up his game better then that.

Your missing the point. That is a negative comment. Whatever your intentions were, you took a nice gesture from one player to a group of other players he depends on and made it seem like it was worthless. Was he supposed to get them a button up shirt and put the dirtbag logo on it? I can tell you that when BossHog gave Joe Bugel a tshirt from the site, he was visibly and sincerely thankful. He didn't say, "Man. A t-shirt? You cheap jerk".

Look, it's not like he went out to Dick's Sporting Goods and picked up some T-shirts to give to the O-linemen. That would be pretty "cheap" (a term denoting "inexpensive" but also conotating "worthless" or "poor quality"). But, he had them made, and I think they are kinda neat. Again, not on par with a steak dinner or Rolex's, but a nice guesture non-the-less.

Yeah I know they cheap, because I know.

Every heard of JOTO, HOBO or FOSHO...they are small clothing business in the District. He had one of the designers affiliated with them make the T-shirts. SO NOW I KNOW FOR A FACT THEY WERE NO MORE THEN $20 BUCKS A POP. SO THERE Monkey ROTFALMAO

ummm.... one of the biggest reasons for the cohesion that the HOGS came to have was some 'stupid t-shirts' that Joe Bugel made up with a hog on them.

They became a badge of courage... a badge of honor.

Regardless of price.

They swilled beer and ate beans in the 5 o'clock club... not wine and cheese.

The lowbrow nature of the t-shirts is befitting of the 'dirtbag' name... and the recipients.

QB's buy rolexes for their linemen when they win awards... Clinton bought the shirts and they've never even played a regular season game.

I think that's pretty cool

Maybe CP will send me one? :celebrate:
Sean Taylor was one of a kind, may he rest in peace.

WOW that was a very good way to prove you point BOSS. And you didnt even have to call me a funny name or demean me in any way, but i guess thats why you have the name BOSSHOG. Honestly Boss much PROPS to you fot that responses

Here are some other examples.

Priest Holmes bought all his lineman a couple years ago taylored made suits from Vercase.

Al Singlton took all cowboy defense out to dinner twice last year once before the beginning game of the season and another time.

Ray Lewis bought all Defensive players a PS2 and a Copy of Madden 2005 this year.

So it goes to show not just for an award is a gift given.

All i am saying is that If my man is Jacob the Jewler. I would have done alittle better then $20 t-shirts. If i had portis money.

I still think the idea of the T Shirts is nice, especially with the Portis siggy on 'em... they'll mean a lot

You know - reminds me of the fact of coaches offering pizza to the section of the team that performs the best that day at camp or someone working their butt off for that 5 bucks that a coach will sometimes offer as a quick incentive - it becomes a badge of honor... a little something that spurs people for no real gain other than the honor of wearing it or saying they earned it...

I don't know that some people get the notion of that though...

Pimpin, stylin, and bling are all some mercenaries understand

With attitudes like this, now you can see why the NFL & NBA has gone from "one for all, and all for one" to "show me the money"

Anyone of the lineman who actually thought this way, and thought Portis' "gift" was not "silver lined" enough.. can take a hike as far as I'm concerned.... Which I don't think they thought this way.... There are people out there that don't judge there friends and or happiness by the things they are given or own.. ;)
