Re: POLL: Is Kirk Cousins "Fool's Gold?"
Cousins is what we thought he was, a marginally capable starter who cannot take the next step. He does not make the plays which separate franchise quarterbacks from temporary starters. He does not win games against the best competition. He does not perform under the pressure of the franchise tag. The team was right not to give him a long-term deal. We're back to quarterback shopping. Again.

Doesn't sound like gold.

Theismann wasn't even really a franchise QB. He was a 3rd stringer turned starter. Sonny might have been the last franchise QB to wear a Redskins uniform.

Re: POLL: Is Kirk Cousins "Fool's Gold?"
Surprisingly, my vote is the lone vote for- he good just wait.
He IS a capable NFL qb. Not the worst, but far from the best. He DEFINITELY is NOT Tom Brady, as of now. However, is/can he, mak(ing)e the step up? Manning STILL holds the rookie record for the most ints... look how he turned out? Then there's all those greats whom went through their own sophomore slump. So I think we can't gauge where he is or who he will become, yet.
Kirk has had a very odd start to his career... an up and down roller coaster from day 1 to say the least. From the back up, to the guy, to the back up, to the third stringer, to conference champ... yet still, all things considered he's like a sophomore technically. He CAN make the reads, and get it out quick, he CAN make the throws, hell he CAN even make the long ones.... but can he find confidence and consistency? Two vastly important traits that are very hard to gauge until live bullets are flying, or the game is on the line.
That's a big one. I know plenty of golfers that I've worked with and coached up, whom "have the skill", but once we tee it up in a tournament- just wet the bed and look like they've never held a club before!
Kirk HAS demonstrated that he CAN be the man. That he can carry this team to victory... comeback from behind.... win the game to get in.... but he hasn't demonstrated any kind of consistency in his ability to do so on a regular basis. His mind is stuck on money and what he "needs to do" instead of just doing. He is thinking way to much on the field to "try and earn the deal" instead of trusting his boys and reacting. He currently is trying to play, instead of trusting the work he's put in and just letting go.
For some, that might sound foolish, but to those of us foolish enough to golf- or have played any sport at a high level you know the difference.
Kirk WILL get it right... hopefully sooner then later... but I do believe he will have a Matt Ryan like career (I'd already put him in that middle of the pack caliber qb bracket honestly) with a possibility to become a top ten qb year in and year out.
It's mental. Can he do it?
I think so.
Will he still be here when it clicks?
Hopefully.

Re: POLL: Is Kirk Cousins "Fool's Gold?"
Captain pick is 0-28 against teams with a winning record over five seasons. The guy is a joke. How can a weak armed backup QB who is 0-28 against winning teams be even in the conversation about being a franchise QB. He is not a franchise QB and has not shown the ability to be one. He has never beaten a winning team. Digest that.
Re: POLL: Is Kirk Cousins "Fool's Gold?"
The jury is still out.
He's 9-9 since becoming the full-time starter. 29 tds 11 ints last year with 70% completions and a 101 rating. He's franchised and playing for his future this year.
All of that spells that the jury is still out on him.

Re: POLL: Is Kirk Cousins "Fool's Gold?"
Last year Kirk surprised me and played pretty well. I was surprised b/c I never seen it in him. Then the Tampa game he woke up, and continued the Bears game. Seen it in his eyes for the 1st time that he was ready.
Unfortunately he is only good as he is coached and I think we have subpar offensive coaching.
If we have a good game plan he can excel, outside of that hes too robotic more times than not to break scheme, doesnt garner TRUE respect of his teammates and craps his pants anytime we play a good team. He makes all the throws and can do enough to get by to say hes a starter but just like the Matt Ryans, Andy Daltons not a true franchise guy that elevate his teammates. Kirk will need a bonified defense even then I think the game is too big for him and we couldnt a super bowl with him.

Re: POLL: Is Kirk Cousins "Fool's Gold?"
Unfortunately, Matt Ryan is an upgrade to what we've had over the past 2/3 decades! If there were Manning's and Brady's available everywhere, we wouldn't be having this conversation.
Yes our D is far from good... but he has the tools to win now vs the majority of the teams we face. If he starts dropping 35/40 burgers on teams and gets the train going, who knows- maybe our D catches a spark too...
I saw the body language of Garçon Jax Coach and alllllllllllllllll of Redskins nation on the int in the end zone. I knew it was game and so did everyone else. It was inexcusable..... now he needs to play his redemption song and power forward. This CAN spiral out of control reeeeal quick if he don't get it back on track.

Any Professional NFL QB that has to take confidence classes isn't a franchise QB. He is a decent career backup at best.

I still think he's a capable starter, though he hasn't fully proved it yet. I saw enough last season to think this, and he's really not far off from it this year — just a touch more accuracy and we don't leave three touchdowns on the field versus Dallas.
Give the man time to continue to work. I believe in him.

Jury's still out for me, but I still have confidence that he can turn it around and be more like 2015 Kirk and not 2014 Kirk.

I do too - he's a $15M-$16M QB and hopefully he can play here until we get a really good one
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

I'd rather give Ryan Fitzpatrick that money.

Re: POLL: Is Kirk Cousins "Fool's Gold?"
Jury is still out for me.
Last year he played like a true starter/franchise guy, but he didn't play well against the top teams. This continued against PIT. That being said, he has little support outside the WRs he has. He needs help at the RB/OL.
I am optimistic, but he is a long ways away from being a guy I'd offer >$12M per year for....
Good thing is we have 14 more games to decide.

Matt Jones averaged 4.7 yards per carry in the Dallas game. Gruden didn't give him the damn ball enough. 15 carries?

Cousin was a kiss ass at MSU. I know a few players on that team. He was the white hope. Cousin is just a good college QB like RGIII. He is just a different race.

Re: POLL: Is Kirk Cousins "Fool's Gold?"
The fact that we have to ask when a guy is 28 years old tell you right there. I seen improvement from him from rookie to now but Kirk has pretty much flattened out at this point of his career.
You probably cannot find 5 teams with better weapons around him and he is still being questioned.
Jordan Reed gets injured and we are in trouble! The fact that you have to keep great players around him at all spots tells me that for one he isn't worth the 20+ mill per year he is asking for.
The Redskins will never be able to put money around the team at positions of need when the qb soaking up a high percentage of the cap. I still think he can turn it around and play near what he did last year but I do feel he will fizz out once more against solid defenses.
