Yeah that's exactly what I'm saying. I don't really have an opinion one way or the other on Sudfeld. Only that I think we could put him on the practice squad this year. I just don't see other teams swooping in to grab a #3 QB off waivers before that.

Oh I see now. Yeah that makes sense. We will see if they really want him or not.

I like your 53...one minor change -- would remove OL Cofield and add DL Ionnadis (sp?)

Cofield might be on PS. There is NO rotation on the OL, a 7th DL could help with rotations.

Washington G Kory Lichtensteiger has taken a paycut from $3.5M to $2.25M for 2016. He can earn the $1.25M back in incentives.

According to Field Yates of ESPN, center Kory Lichtensteiger has seen his salary reduced from $3.5 million to $2.25 million for the coming season. He can earn the difference back in incentives, but a pay cut is a pay cut.

Yeah B&G, I don't know about you, but that sounds to me like he's going to be a backup.

Such a weird story btw. It seems to me that - unless your'e Tom Brady - you only agree to a salary reduction if the alternative is being cut. Am I wrong about that? Otherwise the conversation is just:

Scot: Kory we'd like you to take a $1.25m pay cut.
Kory: No.
Scot: Ok.

I think we're going to see Long at center with Laovao at LG.

I'd bet the incentive is probably something like, "you can earn $x if you start more than x games". He could hit that incentive just by somebody else getting hurt, so let's hope he doesn't!

Thought this was a fair criticism from Tandler today, judging the 2016 draft picks:

DL Matt Ioannidis (5th)—The only draft pick to get cut today, he has to qualify as a disappointment, at least in these early stages. It’s possible that he could land on the practice squad, work on his fundamentals, and land back on the roster as a productive player whether it’s later this year or in 2017. But for now, I’m looking at a defensive line that got no help from the draft and at all of the wheeling and dealing for future picks that Scot McCloughan did around the fourth and fifth rounds in the draft and wondering if he could have done better. He was the third highest drafted player to get cut.

I won't pretend to know anything near as much as Scot McCloughan, but the point about wheeling and dealing picks there in the fourth and fifth rounds is kind of true. I was pretty frustrated that we passed on Billings at that point and made some of those trades.

If Billings was available we definitely should have picked him. But I been saying for awhile now, as long as we keep Scott Campbell and his staff aboard (same staff since 2004 essentially minus Morroco Brown) then we will continue to be lackluster in lower ends of the draft. These guys drafting skills are stuck in the 90s. It is up to Scot, however to coach them in the right direction but at the end of the day ultimately it is on Scott.

I'm not going to worry about this too much because it indeed is a low draft pick but lets be honest Scott haven't been too good with the free agents. The talent still on this team that is excelling is from Shanahan/Bruce combo at this point. Takes time though, but not a great start.

McCloughan is not infallible and the franchise has 'missed' opportunities - BIG DEAL - this franchise has improved since he came in

coulda, woulda, shoulda - I could care less - this franchise MIGHT be in a better position if we had of done things differently ... it IS in a better place because of what McCloughan has done - especially, as someone implied, given that, in their opinion, the scouting department here sucks and has largely remained the same since 2004
IF McCloughan thought the scouting department guys were not doing their job well, they would not be here

this franchise found a way to win the NFC East in 2015 - and because the division sucks so bad, we might even do it again

give me a break - the roster is a huge improvement, due in large part to McCloughan

My original 53 was off by two...

Reiter instead of Cofield and Lanier instead of Jenkins.

thought I did ok otherwise..

And yes Lichenstinker was on purpose.. I like that guy personally, but we need improvement from that position.

Don't be surprised to see Long starting by week six.

Look I'm 100% on board with McCloughan, and I'm thrilled that he's our GM. But I don't see why we as fans can't discuss and challenge his decisions just like we would with anybody else in the organization. I expect that he does the same with himself.

"We made the playoffs in 2015" doesn't have anything to do with it.

all that matters is we're getting better and a large part of the credit for that is due to McCloughan being here and Dan Snyder staying away from the football operations

let's be clear - we did not win the division because of McCloughan but despite his draft and FA 'mistakes' the franchise is improving

We really don't know if we are getting better as an organization unless we WIN consistently. We've made it to the playoffs before of recent but typically right after that year of squeaking into the playoffs we are back into the cellar of the division.

So to me just like Kirk, we had a decent 2015 year but until we prove we can string together two or more consecutive seasons we won't get that respect like other organizations.

The bar have been lowered over the years to just wanting to get to the playoffs. I get it, take baby steps but one day we have to build a team and expect to win a few games and be a Super Bowl contender. Doesn't happen over night but we will know if we are moving in the right direction this year for sure.

Right now McCloughan's progress is still to be determined as far as the draft picks but we DO KNOW that he's failing as far as the free agents brought in right?
Derek Carrier - traded a 5th rounder. miss
Vernon Davis - tbd
Ty Nsekhe - hit..good quality swing tacker
Stork - didn't lose anything but c'mon it is a miss just for offering a pick for a guy that had multiple concussions for that was not healthy.
Paea - miss
Potroast - miss
Ricky Jean - hit
Galette - not Scot's fault on this one.
Culliver - miss
Dashon Goldson - i wouldn't necessarily call this a miss but you would think they would want to keep him multiple years...so more miss than hit.
Mason Foster - tbd..but so far a hit. We have to see how he plays for a full season.

Don't agree with your Stork analysis. Very low risk to reward situation, so I don't see how you can call it a miss. I also disagree that Potroast was a miss. He may not have been great last season, but he was good enough, as a one-year stop-gap, to be the starter on the team. And what about Josh Norman? Doesn't he count? It may not be a hit yet, but the chances are good. I'd say he's done fairly well in the FA market. As for the draft "mistakes," I say, Please! Every team passes on players that wind up getting drafted in the late rounds, and turn out to be stars. There are 31 teams kicking themselves for not drafting Brady in rounds 1-5. But those are the exception, not the rule.

in the past, as the 'real' season approached the hype machine would point out that we had just had a fantastic off season and were now looking ahead to a great season - this is no longer the case here - there is a different attitude both at Redskins Park and on the street

this franchise has evolved - they are not quite ready to be considered a threat to win a lot of games but I do sense that we will see a team that has confidence and plays hard - I am looking to see a group of guys playing together that have eliminated the stupid mental errors that used to dog this franchise for so many years

it's not all McCloughan but ...

I just can't criticize McCloughan much when it comes to free agency. I think he's had to dive into free agency more than he would like largely because the franchise has been such a poorly run mess before he got here. He's had little choice in the matter, and I'm not going to fault him that a high percentage of players discarded by other teams haven't turned into immediate studs once arriving in Ashburn. Free agency is just the worst place to find players and build a team.

Honestly, I think McCloughan has been awesome so far. I was just bummed during the draft that we didn't address the d-line at all. It was literally touted as the best defensive line draft last year. I'll be more disappointed if the line plays like last year or worse.

The miss on Ioannidis is bad. Teams just don't cut 5th round draft picks before they've ever played a meaningful regulation game snap. I hope the PS signing means he's not a complete bust.
