What Do You Think Of Dan Snyder?
Dan Snyder anonymously paid for Chief Zee's funeral.
Now what do you think of him?
Now what do you think of him?
“He was at that time the smartest player in the league. We did everything we could to try to eliminate him from the play. We knew if we didn’t neutralize him, then we had less of a chance of winning.” - John Hannah on Chris Hanburger
Re: What Do You Think Of Dan Snyder?
Dan has always had a big heart for the team and its fans, he's just always thought he was smarter than the "football guys". I think he finally understands how to go about owning a team, and that will make the teams fans come back around to him.

Its a kind gesture. Not sure it really changes my opinion of him one way or the other.
I definitely don't agree with the statement that "I think he finally understands how to go about owning a team". A single decent year or a single decent act? IMO just positive signs that I hope become the norm for Snyder and the Redskins.

Remember he also flew the whole team down to Sean Taylor's funeral.
I've always thought he was a decent guy; he just needs to let the football people make the decisions.

Re: What Do You Think Of Dan Snyder?
I agree that it was a nice gesture and he's probably done some other nice things that we don't know about ...
I'm also not sure that this changes my opinion of him as a person or as the owner of this franchise

Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

He has made a lot of nice gestures in his time as owner. He's also done some things (particularly early on) that were pretty a-hole-ish. Or so I've heard from stories from people with knowledge of what happened when he took over the team.
I think his paying for the funeral, and his treatment of Chief Zee in general, was very kind.

One thing is that he understands cause and effect. When he fiddles around, things go sideways; when he sits back and lets others do the managing we win titles.

Agreed. It's complex. There are so many bad stories from his earlier days (Mike Nolan and the ice cream, the trees near his house, giving employees apples for a holiday bonus on year instead of money like was done every other year, etc.). But he's finally pulled himself out of the football limelight and gestures like the above are nice to see. He's actually contributed a lot to charitable causes (i.e., breast cancer awareness), and usually does so anonymous, meaning he seriously wants nothing out of it other than to help others.
This article from 2006 is a pretty good read.
Re: What Do You Think Of Dan Snyder?
As a person, he has been a hard worker, smart, successful, benevolent, thoughtful, hospitable, etc All good qualities.
As the owner of the Redskins, I think he always wanted what was best for the Redskins and spent a ton of money to make the Redskins a winner. Unfortunately, he did not have the Football knowledge to act like a GM and he made some awful football decisions. Now let's hope he has learned. His priority now should be signing SM to a long term contract.

Shocked - he may not be the brightest bulb when it comes to everyday operations
of an NFL franchise, but to step out and pay for someone's funeral, who wasn't
even technically a member of the staff gets him a thumbs up in my book just
wish more snotty rich idiots would take that lead and show that money isn't

Re: What Do You Think Of Dan Snyder?
Complex, as he's always been. I think others have hit the nail on the head in terms of him being an ass at times, while also coming across as a good human being (such as paying for Chief Zee's funeral expenses). Snyder being somewhat aloof and standoffish doesn't help his image either.

I'm glad that Snyder did this but my opinion of him as the owner of the Washington Redskins has not changed ...
I look forward to the day that Dan Snyder is no longer a part of this franchise

I'm not jumping aboard the wagon just because he paid for Zee's funeral. While it's a great gesture, I won't forget the crap he pulled on us a few years ago.
What I do like about Snyder "now" is the fact he's stepped away from trying to run the team and handed it over to people who actually know football. Just sign the checks, and go watch the game.. that's what owners should be doing.

Now what do you think of him?
1. I try not to think of Dan Snyder.
2. If it was anonymous, how do we know he paid for Chief Zee's funeral? (Happened to think of that...)
3. Always happy if someone turns for the better. Maybe there is hope that Peter Angelos will admit that Washington has never been part of Baltimore?
Re: What Do You Think Of Dan Snyder?
I've always liked Dan Snyder more than most. He's always been a guy who I knew would write any check who would help the Redskins. He did some stupid things early but the guy is a Redskins fan who made a fortune and bought the team. Won't lie, I wish I was a billionaire who worked myself into buying the Redskins. I would have a blast owning them. Seems he does. I appreciate the fact in hiring professionals like Bruce Allen and Scot McCloughan he is at least trying to put professionals in charge.

Why the heck aren't the Ravens paying Snyder on the side for territory rights?welch wrote:Burgundy&GoldForever wrote:Dan Snyder anonymously paid for Chief Zee's funeral.

A great question!!
To be more precise, the Ravens should have been paying the Redskin owners -- the Cookes and now Snyder -- all broadcast revenue the Ravens receive from the NFL. The Redskins should be required to pass on a small percentage of the broadcast fees, with the percentage to be "reset" every five years or so, with the Redskins having a final say over each reset percentage.
Yes, the Ravens encroached on Redskin territory!
