Keim on Doctson:

The Redskins didn't have an immediate need at receiver, with DeSean Jackson, Pierre Garcon and Jamison Crowder their top three. However, both Jackson and Garcon are in the final year of their contracts, so this gives the Redskins a younger, cheaper alternative already in place -- and a talented one. Doctson gives quarterback Kirk Cousins another young weapon. If the Redskins keep both Garcon and Jackson, it certainly gives them insurance if something happens; the offense suffered when Jackson missed seven games last season. At 6 feet 2, Doctson offers good size -- the Redskins' tallest wideout is Garcon at 6 feet -- and does an excellent job going after the ball, allowing him to play a little taller. I wouldn't call this a luxury pick, but general manager Scot McCloughan can say he stuck by his board and took the best available player. For a long time, even those in the organization who loved Doctson were convinced the Redskins wouldn't draft him. But it's a move that can provide big help.

Josh Doctson - WR - Redskins

First-round pick Josh Doctson admitted he'll face a learning curve transitioning from TCU's offense to the Redskins'.

"A lot of the routes are deeper," observed Doctson. "A lot of deep in-breaking routes. I probably didn't run one double move in college and we have a whole arsenal of double moves here. It's a little different in and out of breaks, getting your hips around. Things like that."

We fully expect Doctson to pick up Jay Gruden's offense and be a factor by Week 1. It remains to be seen whether he'll win a starting job to begin the season.

Heck, we ran double (and triple) moves in the '60s as pre-teens when we played at the churchyard. "Go 5 steps, fake out, cut in on a post and when you wave your hand and he looks I'll throw it to the corner."

When #Redskins go to 3 WR's, If Dotson is on field with Jackson, Garcon & TE Reed. They will have best 4 receiver combo in NFL @nflnetwork

I don't often agree with Charley Casserly but in this case I'll make an exception. I can't think of a better receiver set. Not even sure who comes in 2nd. Arizona, maybe.

It's a good thing we have a quarterback who will use every receiver on the field...

Can't remember where the article I read this AM is, but the author mentioned Houston and Carolina as maybe the closest. Houston doesn't have the TE that we do though, and I don't know... I liked Doctson way more than Will Fuller in the draft. And who knows if Osweiler can even deliver with those guys or not yet?

I actually thought the Skins were going to draft Laquon Treadwell. I didn't know much of squat about Doctson before the draft. But the more I learn about him the more I like. I saw a video of Gruden talking about how smart he is and how he's already learned about 80% of the playbook. I'm sure he means what they've been given thus far but still, it's only been a few days. I can't wait to see this guy on the field in pads.

I like our guys as much as anyone else's, as far as the rest of the league goes, I would take Antonio Brown, Martavis Bryant, Ladarius Green and Wheaton any day of the week.

Good point. That's definitely one of the best if not the best.

Me too, man. Just looking before the draft at physical size - same height, Treadwell about 20 lbs heavier - and where they played college football I was thinking Treadwell would be the guy if they picked first round WR.

Thought it was interesting though to learn more about their backgrounds and personality. Docston was a walk on. Treadwell was a five star HS recruit. Doctson seems to have a more modest, humble personality. You can start to see why that was the pick for McCloughan. Doctson is also faster than Treadwell. :D

Martavis is suspended at a minimum for all of next year, so that group's definitely not as good.

I like our depth front-to-back, but to have the best receiving corps in the league you need at least one elite player who comes through game after game and who is just unstoppable at times. Jordan Reed could become that guy for us, but I wouldn't say we've arrived quite yet.

what he said - this WR corp has great promise but that's been the story of this franchise

be a shame to not take full advantage of a great group ...
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

I'm thrilled he can make those plays but I'd rather not see Cousins leave him extended like that as a habit. 8-[

Absolutely but I hope they use him in more than just the red zone. I want to see 4WR sets with Jackson, Garcon, Crowder, and Doctson.

Good luck defending that.
