Rating The Redskins GM
How would you rate the Redskins GM? Before reading the attached article, I thought Scot was one of the best. Now, I think he has earned the #1 position. Not only that but he was an advisor to the GM who is ranked #2.
What is his value? From what I have read the salary range for GMs is $1 - $3M. I am not sure what his contract terms may be but if I am DS, I would up the ante and sign him to a L O N G term contract sooner than later.
Interested in what you think.

Re: Rating The Redskins GM
That's really interesting - thanks for posting it! Took me a while to break down what they were calculating. My only small issue with "average annual surplus" is that it could be affected by injuries. A guy breaking his leg and missing 14 games one year doesn't really reflect on whether the GM is good or not. Just a small gripe though, and I'd guess that issue gets balanced out for everyone.
That number for McCloughan is mind boggling. He's not just the leader in this list - he's astronomically better than pretty much everyone else. Crazy!
Awesome that Jerry Rees is dead last too.

Re: Rating The Redskins GM
Scot had a tremendous first year in DC. His draft picks and FAs produced with the exception of a guy with a season ending injury. In addition, Scot enabled Gruden to go with Cousins which was the most important development last year. According to a media report Scot had a 4-5 hour 1 on 1 meeting with Snyder turning summer camp where Scot explained why they needed to go ahead with Cousins. It took 4-5 hours for Scot to convince Snyder to finally let a Gruden go forward with the player best suited for the NFL. Clearly Snyder had a huge emotional and financial investment in Griffin and it took guts for Scot to back up Gruden and face down Snyder.
While I think every one saw in 2014 that Cousins was better prepared than Griffin to run Gruden's offense lots of fans still held out hope that Griffin could get over the learning hump and excel at a level far above what people had seen from Cousins. Scot told Snyder otherwise and it took 4-5 hours to do it. That meeting was the critical event that led to the successful 2015 season and the upward trajectory the Skins are on today.
It is one thing to identify and pick NFL talent but to be successful the Skins needed somebody confident enough to push Snyder out of the way and keep him out. The last guy that did that was Marty Schottenheimer and Dan fired him after 1 year because it wasn't fun since it seemed like it was Marty's team. Let's hope the years of losing and humiliation Snyder experienced were enough to convince Snyder to be content to own Scot's team.

anyone that thinks that Dan Snyder has 'suffered' or felt humiliated by anything he's done with this franchise does not have a clue
Scot and this FO are doing a great job - it's going to be an interesting season for some key people here

Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

This list was created last year. I wish it was done on an annual basis. I'd love to see Scot pull even farther away from the pack, as his days propping up Schneider fade and his numbers go back to their actual level.

No real point in waiting. I'd consider offering him 10 years for $50 million right now. If we don't do something someone else will.

Exactly what I was thinking, it's money in the bank.

Why? You think he finished the 2014 season feeling elated and jubliant or something?

C'mon - where did I say or imply that - are you trying to defend the idiot owner or what?
this idiot for an owner cannot be equated ... how on earth can anyone make all these mistakes and not learn anything
we're not talking about a few mistakes here and there - this went on for almost 15 seasons
to say this
clearly shows a lot - give me a break ..... Dan fired him (Marty) after 1 year because it wasn't fun ..

Never. Just trying to understand what you were calling clueless? Seemed like kind of an innocuous statement.

Re: Rating The Redskins GM
OldSchool, obviously has an agenda ... this is an old Browns fan that is trying to be a part of things here
and ... I'm not letting him have any slack .... obviously
OK - the OS BS aside - fact is Snyder & Allen got incredibly lucky by hiring a GM that had some baggage but also had some credo and he has taken full advantage - from where we were at the end of 2014 to where we are now is just stunning - it's not all Scot but he deserves most of the credit
