Yeah I think a lot of people have been surprised by that. He was going first round top 20 in most mock drafts. Still available in the 4th round now.
Pretty much every team has now passed on him three or four times so far, so must be a reason. Read something about a potential knee issue.
Its driving me crazy this AM though reading and listening to media questioning that we "haven't addressed the DL need". People just don't freaking get it. McCloughan is drafting football players - not positions.

A: Best player available and higher in the table across the three positions ... so, it depends on other team's choices from 32 to 52.
While it might still be possible to trade down, I suspect that if one of the great DTs is still available at 53, they will take him. Only a couple of really good Cs are available. Safety is an intriguing choice.
I am sure that SM would accept a good offer to trade down even if it is one spot as he did yesterday but even out of the 2nd round.
G'day RiC - from where this franchise was at the end of 2014, I'm sure you will agree, we have seen an almost unbelievable transformation
We all wanted to see what would happen if Snyder stopped meddling and let NFL guys take control here but we just didn't get lucky in having Scot take over, we hit the friggin' powerball jackpot ... this FO in a little over a year has done an incredible job and the perception of this franchise has changed from being a complete embarrassment to one of quiet respect across the board - not long ago almost everything that happened here had us saying "WTF are they thinking by doing that ..." now we sum it all up with "in Scot we trust ... " and it's not just Scot, it's everyone - there's little to zero coming from players or from management on social media or from anywhere
this is almost surreal
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

AGREE - that is exactly right - it sounds easy but it requires a really good group of talent evaluators ... did you see this?
Watch out NFC East, Scot McCloughan is building a squad in Washington McCloughan is one of the NFL's premier talent evaluators, focusing on players who may lack ideal measurable but never instincts, toughness and competitiveness. Those are some of the traits which describe his haul of wideout Josh Doctson in the first round, edge rusher Su'a Cravens in the second and cornerback Kendall Fuller in the third. Few clubs did more with less than the Redskins.

I was initially a bit underwhelmed by the Doctson pick, but have come to appreciate it more. The last 2 picks were breaths of fresh air. Great to see players drafted that look like they can make an impact. Mr. McCloughan is crushing the draft so far. Would like to see G Joe Dahl be available in the 4th.

As of 11/27/07, I resolve to never again read any version of the Washington Post.
I'm perfectly fine with the picks we've made so far. I was just saying I'd like to see us take Billings, but I didn't see anything about the knee issue. I trust in SM and he's drafter 3 first round graded guys in this draft so far. He adressed the DL thing last night, said he liked the depth we already have there, but also said they wouldn't mind adding another today if we're the best fit at that spot. I think we've had an A draft so far, haven't read much about what the experts have said so far.

Yeah wasn't directing that comment at you btw - but at the media for writing so much about our DL need. I was hoping for Billings too just because I've seen him valued so highly going into the draft. Something is clearly not right there. I actually expected the Saints to take him after that trade. Shocked it didn't happen.
Is Nile Lawrence-Stample still out there? Another DT from FSU I thought we might look at late.

Next pick for the Skins now is no. 152 in the 5th round (the Saints' pick). Then we have another one six picks later at no. 158.
As a fan I thought that was a disappointing trade. Moving out of the fourth and not getting any more picks this year. Scot is clearly playing the long game though. We're going into 2017 draft now with at least 9 picks. Gotta respect what he's doing.

Definitely a cheap price for our 4th. I wonder what that indicates in terms of how Scot and Gruden see the current pool of talent.
Ionnitas... 2nd round talent on many boards... that's our NT...

Missed it, but traded out of the 5th round...traded their 2nd pick in the 5th to the Jets for their 4th next year. Looking like they are REALLY playing the long game, collecting picks for next year... I think we are up to 10 picks at this point.

My guess is that the Skins don't see so much talent in the depths of this year's draft and feel like they'll get more value out of having lots of picks next year. Last year it seemed like McCloughan couldn't get enough picks in that year's draft. Now it feels like the Skins can't wait to trade away as many late rounders as they can.

You also see increased value... our 5th this year becomes a 4th next year... That's a BIG improvement... I'm really liking this.

Its really been wild to watch. I definitely didn't expect to finish this draft with only 7 picks. On the flip side, its a smart move if you can be patient. Getting a fourth rounder next year is potentially more valuable than adding a 6th and a 7th this year. He can still grab a number of UFAs after the draft too.

I liked Kevin Hogan late but Sudfield looks like a solid pick here.

WE are repeatly told defense esp run stopping needing addressing was this really addressed? We were told DEfENSE was the strength of the draft ..did we really use it. We were told we wanted to come away with more draft picks instead we watch many teams do just ...this in fact we ended up with less picks ..of the 7 picks we added to to our playoff team perhaps 1 only will be an impact starter this year with the others seemingly moves to counter free agency in 2017.. thank god we got Norman before the draft.HAIL TO THE CHIEFS Top Post a replyQuick Reply 1 post • Page 1 of 1
I must admit, i was a little bewildered with doctson and the not taking a DL with either 2nd or 3rd round. Not to mention trading picks out of this draft and into next. But after some review, i really like doctson, and some of these other guys could turn out great. I completely trust Scot, and if we have no shot at winning the superbowl(which we don't this year), BPA is definitely the way to go. Scot knows how to build a winner, and he's doing it. There's no instant gratification way to do it. This way is the only way...!!!
Think back to just how bad this roster was before he got here. 2012 was smoke and mirrors...

Told by whom? Maybe Mel Kiper not Scot McCloughan.
You were also told that Andrew Billings was a top 20 draft pick. Where did he go? Bottom of the fourth round?

+1
I just feel confident that guy knows way more than I do. When we took ILB Steven Daniels I was a little disappointed because Clemson safety Jayron Kearse was still available. I'm 99.5% sure Scot McCloughan took the right player.
