I was very happy, but now I am thrilled and relieved. I knew SM was going to be wise with money. I like how most of the money is for the first 3 years.

good deal for both the player and the Redskins - This FO is not overpaying anyone - that is for sure ..
and ... in the draft, the "focus" will not be on our needs but on adding the best players we can no matter what position they play
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

I don't get why everyone is talking about Norman's age. He's not old and he won't be pushing it for a couple of seasons yet.
If you look at his highlights from this past year, all of the announcers are calling him "young man." He was drafted in 2012. It took him an extra year to get to college, so he's two years older than RGIII.
because you're the highest paid player at a position does not mean that you are the best player at that position
Josh Norman got fair market value - Osweiler is not worth what he got either - the market set that price
Kirk Cousins is about to get a lot of money too - this does not mean that he's one of the best QBs playing right now
some of these players are just in the right place at the right time - the secret is to be able to put together a roster with all of the players getting good money but not affecting the franchise from adding other good players - players that just want to get paid and don't care that the franchise can't add other good players should be let go
It's better to have a roster full of good players rather than having a few great ones being paid well, at the expense of having quality depth

It's a lot of money but the terms seem fairly team friendly. Opportunities to move on with minimal pain.
I don't have much question he's a huge upgrade for us. Stay healthy and give us three good years at least and this deal pays off.

READ this! Makes everything more clear with the Norman deal. Have lots of options, if we keep him after 2 years and he is doing great than that is great for the team. If he isn't that great get rid of him. The article discusses more. In 2017 could make as much as 20m thats his big pay year. http://realredskins.com/2016/04/23/deta ... -redskins/

After this big investment I think SM is going to use the #21 for DL instead of the OL as I hoped.
I hope it's wr, if a top one drops to us. If not dline with lots of depth can get one in the 2nd round. It depends how the draft turns out and who is available

Yeah I think either one of those is a good bet. Could go DL in round 1 and still get a good WR in 2 or vice versa.
Either way, can't wait to see what happens this week.

I think its noteworthy that we didn't just bring him in to kick the tires. Put out a "decent" deal to see if he would bite. Skins put on a full court press to get this guy and not let him out of the building. That's gotta say something, don't you think?

McCloughan's press conference today was good. Liked the ending:
Chris Baker gets the last question. Asked McCloughan if there's anymore money for him. "Yeah, I've got you Baker."

I did feel better after watching the McCloughan conference. He seemed really excited to sign Norman, like he was totally on board from the word go. So either he's fooling me and we're screwed anyway, or this was a McCloughan decision. I'm willing to believe the latter for now and trust that we're not going to regret it.
I'm kind of surprised that some think that this move might have been influenced AT ALL by Snyder
For the past year, Dan Snyder has supported the FO decisions - he does not influence them at all
If Snyder starts meddling again, we're going to see Scot McCloughan go work his magic somewhere else
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

I'm surprised that you're surprised. We have almost 20 years of Snyder history of doing that sort of thing. We would be idiots if we WEREN'T suspicious.

Enjoyed reading and watching. Thanks.
BTW - Pro Football Focus rankings for last year have Norman at #1 and Breeland at #9.

oh well, I really don't think you're that bad ... I see change at almost every level of this franchise - if Snyder were still meddling we would not have that
I guess I've been waiting so long - I thought Snyder had finally realized what a terrible job he'd done by and brought in Bruce and followed that up with Mike's hiring only to have him continue to meddle - When we brought in Scot, I think that both Bruce and Dan thought that he would let them continue to make a huge mess of things - what we have seen over the past year is VERY clear evidence that Dan Snyder is not affecting what is happening here
it's simple for me - Based on all that has happened here since Dan Snyder bought this franchise, if Snyder were still involved we would not be where we are today
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)
As with most "splash" signings, I'm not a fan. His cap hit in 2017 is $20M!!! I am guessing the way the deal works out is this is what's guaranteed: - $15M signing - $5M 2016 salary - $16.5M 2017 salary
We could drop him in 2018, but this would create a $9M dead cap hit --- which alone is more than most teams have in total this year.
Considering the fact we have to sign Cousins, the $20M in 2017 could hurt us. I see no point in applying 12% of our total salary cap (in 2017) on one player that isn't a QB1.
I just think it is a LOT of money to a guy that has 7 career INTs and has only played 2 full seasons out of 4. And for a guy who's best season was in a contract year. Those don't sit well with me. Hopefully he works out.
I disagree that this is a "splash" signing - this is a good signing at a price that our guys can make work for our franchise
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)
Considering the fact that at one point we had an udfa WIDE RECEIVER starting opposite Breeland, and now have a top ten CB to go with him... I'd say he is worth his weight in gold!!!

Kinda with you on this. Norman wasn't signed to make a splash. He was signed to fill a huge, glaring need on the team.
Whether or not it will prove too expensive remains to be seen.
My thought on that is if Scot can continue to fill out a lot of the roster affordably through the draft then we can afford to have some of these expensive contracts. At some point though, hopefully we'll be rewarding more of our own players with that kind of money.
