I like what you're saying.

It's dumb because Cousins shouldn't be getting that kind of money given his production. But it's also the reality of the quarterback market today, which means at some point Kirk Cousins is going to receive millions and millions of dollars. If it's not from the Redskins, it will be from someone else.
If you don't believe the second sentence, take a look at what the idiot Rams just gave up to move up to #1 this morning. You'd think the team on the long end of the RG3 trade would know better.
What the Rams or anyone else do is irrelevant to me - it's what this FO does that is important - they are not making a stupid deal like the Rams just did - S TU P I D I'm hoping that Cousins does not get the long term deal and takes the opportunity to show that he's a good as he thinks he is
I'd love for Cousins to prove that he's an elite QB and deserves a lot of money - maybe he can even show that should be the highest paid QB in the NFL - I'd absolutely LOVE IT but I don't think he's that QB
I also like hearing that Scot has made it very clear to Cousins that we really want him and will not only pay him fairly (NOT over-pay him) but also surround him with the players he needs - If Cousins values the money over that commitment to this franchise and the promise from Scot I hope we find another QB in the draft to get ready to take over here - I want the same type of players with the same commitment to playing the game as Scot and this FO want and I have a lot of faith in their finding that QB and those types of players
I'm enthused about we're we are and where we're going but I'm not as convinced as some that we're not far away - it's going to take time
we need to continue to add the best young players we can ... the more we have, the better off we'll be
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

That's such a BS demand of any player, man. These guys have the right to earn every dollar possible. How often do we see guys who have given EVERYTHING to their teams get cut, and the teams always come out and say, "Sorry, this is a business."

I'm not begrudging anyone anything - we've heard from Scot that they will give Cousins whatever he's worth (and probably more) plus Scot has promised more support - be nice for Cousins guys to respond in kind ...
Hey! I don't have that big a man crush on this guy as some here
my advice to Cousins, don't sign the deal - go out there and prove it ... that's what I hope happens

If you're Scot McCloughan, and one of the top two QBs is there at #21, what do you do? I know most everyone will answer trade down, so I'll give you the condition that the Browns are offering their second round and third round picks this year + next year's first rounder. What's your move and why?
since the Titans traded out of #1, I wonder how often that scenario of Goff or Wentz falling to 21 happens
we're definitely taking Goff or Wentz if they are there but it's just not happening - NO WAY

Guy took us to the playoffs making $660K last year. He doesn't owe us jack. This is his small window to get the biggest contract his agent can negotiate. I just think its uncool for fans to begrudge players for that.

I hope he signs a deal before July and goes out and proves he was worth it. All that happens in your scenario is that we pay way more for a QB in 2016 than we would have this year.
Personally I think the "prove it" thing is about Snyder and possibly Bruce Allen. McCloughan and Gruden are smart football guys who are around Cousins all the time. They know if he's worth keeping around or not. I don't think McCloughan would have gone the franchise tag route otherwise. If Cousins was "just a guy", there were other less expensive options.

hah. So funny man, I just ran a draft and Goff fell to 21 again. Haven't seen that in a while.
I agree with you that's even less likely than a few days ago. Its interesting to see though the teams that you might expect to take him between 2 and 21. The Browns take Jalen Ramsey instead. Pukes take Ezekiel Elliot. Eagles are the most likely possibility IMO but not a lock either. Most of the other teams before the 21st pick aren't desperate for a QB, and they have to pass up some quality players to take Goff.
I traded that 21 pick to Cleveland btw!

Redskins (Washington Team for the PC Crowd) looking trade down & accumulate picks. Talking teams atop Rd2 including Browns. Covet 32 Spot.
Best possible scenario would be that trade down w the Browns. Fingers crossed.

this is very simple for me - I have more faith in Scot & this FO than I do in Cousins and his advisors ...
I think that Scot & the FO (AND Jay Gruden) are VERY aware of just how good Cousins is and what they need to pay him
if Cousins thinks he's worth more, I'm all in favor of him getting paid that amount elsewhere - we'll still have Scot & a great FO
I'm all in on these guys filling this roster with players that want to be here and NOT with players that want to be paid more than they're worth
I love it when players are overpaid & put a franchise in a situation where they cannot add other really good players - we should NOT do that
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)
He's either good enough to be our franchise QB or not. This idea of "overpaying" is nonsense.

riggofan wrote:He's either good enough to be our franchise QB or not. This idea of "overpaying" is nonsense.
having a decent QB is critical and there's no doubt that Cousins is a good QB
I hope Cousins is one of the highest paid QBs in the NFL because the only way that happens is that he proves he's worth it - that's a good thing
I have no problem with Cousins not signing - it may cost the franchise more but that's not a big deal - even if he signs a long term deal, he's still getting a lot of money because Scot and this FO know what it will take
the bottom line is - I have no problem with Cousins getting a lot of money, as long as what he gets does not impact the franchise being able to add players and pay them all fairly
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)
Since last year (McCloughan era), #Redskins intel on pre-draft visits/workouts harder to come by than any other club. Tight ship.

This franchise has seemingly gone from being one of the most clueless in the NFL to being a viable franchise in a very short time frame
