Cooley re-opens can of Worms about RG3 .....on the air

Post by tribeofjudah »

So Cooley works for Snyder. Has a radio talk show and re-hashes the RG3 drama. Says things like playing with "receivers didn't like playing with RG3". Ricky Jean chimes in on and long discussion begins.

Boy...................I thought this story was dead.

What's hilarious is that after a caller called in and thanked Ricky Jean for "telling the truth" and setting the record straight, to which C00ley said something like, "did he refute anything that I said" or "is what I said not the truth" and Ricky Jean sat there silent. He knows.

good to see reports from a number of players that are just as familiar with what really was going on regarding Griffin ...

AND

C00ley seems to have selective memory ... "He's the [bleeping] leader of this football team," C00ley said at the time. "I can honestly say that. He's so real. There's no B.S. This is who he is. I sit next to him in the team meetings, and there isn't a guy on the team he doesn't have a relationship with. Not one."

Maybe C00ley's just mad because he only caught one pass in 2012, which ended up being his final year in the NFL.

As far as I'm concerned, C00ley did a good job of doing his job.

One objection was that he was talking "behind Griff's back." I'd say when you are speaking on local radio with tens of thousands of listeners, it's not talking behind someone's back.

I'm with you man. We had four years of people close to the Redskins who would never just be honest about Griffin. Just get it all out there, understand what went wrong, learn from it and move on.

Thought it was interesting btw that the guys coming out against C00ley have been pretty much all from the defense. Niles Paul is the only offensive guy I saw speak up.

You have to put that quote in context. It was made in 2012. Opinions change. I have changed my mind on a lot of things since 2012. And that was a different time --- for both RGIII and Coooley.

That being said, there is no question that Coooley is an opportunist. Both that quote and bringing up this drama are great examples. Coooley knew, at the time he made the 2012 statement, there was a possibility he'd get cut, so he was kissing up to the person (RGIII) he thought was the future and knew was Snyder's little pet. It was made in an attempt to save his job and stay on the roster. Moving forward to today, he makes the derogatory RGIII statements to help his broadcasting career and get people talking about him. In both situations, he's looking out for himself --- this time at the expense of RGIII. Coooley has never been one to exemplify high-end "character" --- remember the cheerleaders (yes, multiple) and subsequent divorce from his first marriage???? The guy is 100% about himself and himself only. Did those players say those things about RGIII --- maybe, and I wouldn't doubt it. But, at the end of the day, you always have to question WHY Coooley says what he does --- because 100% of the time, it will be for his benefit.
RIP Sean Taylor. You will be missed.

I have no doubt that Griffin was not a great guy in the locker room ... no big deal - I'm sure that he had some rapport with some players

I just don't think that Chris needed to try and make the point that Griffin was as bad as he was

I also love reacting to anti Griffin guys about just about anything - just because they're haters ... and they know it

The article was who they should have bashed more than anyone...who was it Steinberg? He was one-sided and didn't get both sides of the story. Thats my whole problem with all of the RG3 bashing. They never get his side.

But nonetheless what Cooley said was probably right for the most part, but it doesn't matter really.

The article made it seem like Cooley had a source for all of this but then Ricky Jean Francois goes on air in person and all of a sudden Cooley is saying it was just his "opinion". Then switched up again and saying he didn't want to out nobody....ooooh but he is going to out RG3 tho? Timing was bad.

I think anyone who was playing attention knows Cooley's criticism was on the mark but I don't think it was smart for Cooley to pile on like this now because CC alienated a significant part of the Redskins base.

C00ley is just trying to remain relevant, which he hasn't been in five years. There hasn't been one player other than C00ley who has backed him on this. Doesn't that seem a little odd?

I can guarantee that the people who are overreacting to this did not actually listen to the actual segment live. They were doing a career retrospective on Griffin ALL DAMN DAY, coincidentally on the day he was released. Was everything about his career here positive? Absolutely not. So naturally, there would be some negative things said. And C00ley brought the negatives up specifically during a part of the show where they discussed why Griffin did not work out here.

Stop being so damn sensitive over a guy who has done nothing for this team since 2012.

Did you listen to the audio with RJF?

A caller calls in and thanks Ricky for telling the truth or letting the truth come out, and then C00ley interrupts the caller and says something to the effect of, "did he say what I said was wrong", over and over, and then puts the question to Ricky...who sits there silent. He literally verified everything C00ley said with his silence.

I'm not sure I follow logic that says that because a player currently on the Redskins roster didn't directly refute C00ley's story that it must be true. RJF has to play with a lot of the players who have come out and said directly that C00ley is full of it, like Niles Paul. I also find it interesting that Brian Orakpo, who was shown the door in Washington, came out publicly to say C00ley is full of it. Now, why is a player who isn't even on the Redskins roster or the team RGIII is likely to go to coming out and defending him? There's C00ley's version, and then there's at least half a dozen people who say C00ley is full of it. Occam's razor applies here.

Having said that, why do people even give a crap at this point?

I'd like to see where Orakpo or Niles Paul said C00ley was "full of it". Got a link? What Orakpo said was that Cooley is a bum and he's going to "smack the s---" out of him. What Niles Paul said was: "Can't keep s----in on people you worked with and called your teammates".

These guys don't seem to be upset about whether C00ley's comments were on point or not. They seem to be upset that he's commenting at all.

Why is it "odd"? C00ley has a radio show where he breaks down film and talks about what he sees. Its "odd" that he pointed out RG3 was making the o-line look way worse than it actually was? Are there a bunch of other former RG3 teammates who have radio shows where they get paid to talk about this stuff?

No its not f-ing odd.

I'm kind of shaking my head to see "fans" on here calling Chris C00ley a "douche" and stuff like that. C00ley gave 8 good years to this team. He'll be a part of the Redskins broadcast team for the foreseeable future. He's got way more of my respect than Brian Orakpo or Ryan Clark.

I think Chris is a low life for how he's behaving now - as far as his play for the Redskins is concerned, I thought he was a big time clutch TE for this franchise for a short while - I remember him as a good player for the Redskins - unlike Chris I am not letting his recent stupidity affect that

btw - I'm not overreacting - I'm just saying that he should have handled it differently and IMO he's a low life

Why do you suppose that would be? And why wouldn't they just ignore it? C00ley hasn't been in the locker room since 2012 and he caught nine passes his final two seasons combined, making him irrelevant long before he was no longer on the team.

But the real question is "Why now?" Why stir the pot now that RGIII is gone? This team and its fans have a real problem with moving on. Always living in the past.

Boo hoo. I'll leave you two to simmer in your pot of righteous anger over Chris C00ley's comments. I understand its very difficult to listen to commentary that is anything less than the banal, cliched, PR friendly stuff that comes out of the Redskins marketing department. Can be very painful to those with fragile sensibilities.

Hopefully C00ley will tone down his outlandish rhetoric in future radio broadcasts less anyone be irrevocably stricken by the vapors.

Not sure if this was directed at my comment, but the only thing I am saying is that Coooley is an opportunist. This has never been untrue -- whether as a player, trying to make a comeback with the Giants, or member of the media. Does that make him a "douche" ---- depends on who you ask.

And you should judge people based on their most recent actions as a person, not their past ones as a player. It's great that Coooley was a solid skin, but that doesn't cause me to give him the benefit of the doubt in any way. Sorry, I choose not to be a "blind fan" who rallies behind a player, regardless of action, merely because they were a member of the skins. What a player does on the field or how long they were a skin doesn't cause me to "respect" a player as a person or as being honest or having good character. The dude that wins the Walter Peyton Man of the Year Award is going to win far more respect from me than the league MVP....

At the end of the day, Coooley's calling out RGIII unnecessarily and hurting him in FA for his own personal benefit. Sure Coooley is a member of the media, but he made it personal. And while I honestly couldn't care less about the actual issue at hand, there is no denying that what Coooley is doing lacks class. Perhaps Coooley is butt hurt that RGIII didn't help him out in 2012 when he got cut --- who knows....

As far as Orakpo --- one of my closest friends down here went to Lamar high school with him. What he says about the dude is less than flattering..... nothing horrible, just not "positive".

Chris C00ley is paid to give his opinions on a radio show. Its embarrassing that you guys are so butt hurt because he OPINED on Griffin's relationship with Kirk Cousins.
