Changing Cap Room

Post by DarthMonk »

I just heard that we have $5.8 million in carryover from last year so our cap number will be about $6 million above what it ordinarily would be and this is before cutting RGIII.

thanks DM - there is no problem cap wise - we're going to have plenty of money to sign the players we need ...

fortunately this FO is not interested in high priced free agents - we may bring in some free agents but this FO is not spending a bunch of money

give Scot a couple more drafts and we'll be looking at a completely different product on the field

younger, faster and quality depth along both lines
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

Total Cap Number: $152,953,899 (Top 51: $147,869,412)
Offense: $78,115,815 Defense: $67,627,420 Special: $1,762,500

Robert Griffin III $16,155,000

So 152,953,899 - 147,869,412 = 5,084,487

Now add 5,800,000 in carry over and cut RGIII and we are $27,039,487 under the cap.

Am I on the right track ??

They're going to have to restructure a few contracts. You're on the right track but that figure isn't going anywhere in terms of signing free agents and although Scot McCloughan avoids the big price tags he will have to fill some holes in free agency. Here's what they would ideally do:

Cap Totals

Total Available Cap:
$161,107,734
Total Team Cap $:
$122,927,477
Cap Space:
$38,180,257
Total Savings:
$29,921,667

Transactions Log (HIDE)

Released Robert Griffin III
(Saved: $16,155,000)
Released Andre Roberts
(Saved: $3,000,000)
Restructured Dashon Goldson
(Saved: $3,307,500)
Restructured Jason Hatcher
(Saved: $2,632,500)
Restructured Chris Culliver
(Saved: $4,826,667)

That would still leave the team in need of two quarterbacks, a punter, a fullback / hback, and two defensive tackles, at minimum, and they would have (assuming they sign Kirk Cousins under the franchise tag) around $18.3MM to do it.
