Does anyone have any idea how much a speeding ticket for 71 in a 55 will run me in New York state as an out-of-state resident?
I'd like some idea before I mail it in.
The ticket's very beatable, but it's an 9 hour round trip to fight it.
Thanks

This space reserved for BTP......If he ever wins it.
It depends on the Judge's mood! If it's your 1st ticket in NY (or that they know of) it will probabably be $125-$150. Even if it's $300 (which it won't be), that will be cheaper then making the trip here (I assume). My 1st ever speeding ticket was 82mph in a 55mph zone and it was a $125 fine. My 2nd was 54mph in a 45mph zone (the speed was reduced from 75mph), but because it was my 2nd they doubled the fine, which raised the surcharge & it ended up being $325. So there's no way it will be that much! What city were you in???? It depends on that too! We have a screwed up court system! LOL

Thanks, it was in some town named Horsehead on 86.
Had the cruise set on 70 and was just tooling along on my way to Cooperstown. The car in front of me was spraying from the rain and I never saw the 55 sign until I was on it. By the time I hit the brakes, I was already nailed.
What the heck kind of interstate has a town with stoplights on it anyway.

LOL, Horsehead?????? I never heard of Horsehead!!!!! Well your excuse won't work in court, I'll tell you that. Since it's in a weird town (village, farm of whatever Horsehead is) the fine will probably be lower, the city and the more popular places are where you pay top dollar! At least you're not going to get points, because it out of state. Good Luck!
