Arrington Sits Out Monday Practice By Gary Fitzgerald Redskins.com August 23, 2004
Linebacker LaVar Arrington sat out Monday afternoon's practice to rest a sprained knee. Team officials said his status is day-to-day and his availability for Friday night's game at St. Louis will be evaluated later this week. Mike Barrow participated in some running drills on Monday--it was the most running he had done in a while--but he sat out most of the practice. Barrow has tendonitis in his knee and has yet to appear in a preseason game.
"We'd love to have them back out there--they're important guys," Gibbs said. "But we'll just have to see how it goes. As long as their injuries keep on getting better, I think we'll be okay."
Gibbs said he was concerned that Arrington and Barrow, having missed multiple practices, would fall behind on their conditioning. But both have been able to participate in non-contact walk-through practices so that they're not falling behind on the mental side of the game.
Arrington watched Monday's practice from the sidelines. Afterwards, he declined to comment on his status, saying: "I don't have anything to say until I play on the field."
Defensive linemen Phillip Daniels and Cornelius Griffin also sat out Monday's practice.
Daniels has been nursing an abdominal injury, but he is expected to pick up his activities this week. He has yet to play in a preseason game.
Griffin sat out practice to rest a hip flexor injury.
I think he's tying these guys to posts with chains and having the zebras and people dressed up as Cowboys beat them with bats. Kinda like what they do to dogs to make them aggressive.

Training Hard, dont know about that, how about poor conditioning.

You've been here since before January so you SHOULD know how hard they've been training this offseason. They've worked harder on their conditioning than they ever did with Spurrier.
And yes, CLL is right. Gibbs is training them harder than they have ever been trained. Spurrier never made the team practice in 100% full pads throughout all of training camp.

Then its conditioning young man, stretching and flexibility. Also not enough of the proper exercise to strengthen key areas. I know they been training hard, but has Coach Gibbs been enforcing it. In my opinion he is too much of a players coach to stay in their crap and make sure the work out the right way.

Then you obviously don't know squat about Joe Jackson Gibbs.

You can believe that if it makes you sleep better at night. Players like him and respect him, but he will put a boot up your butt when it's appropriate.

You tell me. Whats going on. Remember I am here deep in DC land. I live and breath Redskin news , just like i live and breath cowboy news.
What's your point? Parcells must be a players coach and too soft then, since he let a player throw his jersey in his face with little or no repercussions.

My point is that i am starting to think that Gibbs is too soft for the modern day player. My point is that most injuries occur do to poor stretching and conditioning.
THATS MY POINT

Unless you have been at every practice and every meeting, you have no idea how Joe Gibbs is with his players. Injuries CAN occur because of poor stretching and injuries, but some people are just injury prone (see Cliff Russell, Ladell Betts) and some injuries are caused by 300 pound men beating each other up. You can not honestly think that every injury that EVERY TEAM has had is due to poor conditioning or lack of coaching. That's just a ridiculous statement made to rile up Redskins fans. How about I try it....
Parcells is a push over. He let a receiver throw a jersey in his face. He helped someone get out of jail. Instead of standing up to Jerry Jones and just cutting Quincy Carter because he sucks, he instead contrived a reason that violated CBA rules to get rid of him. What a yellow-bellied, no-backbone-havin' peice of cow turd.

Doesnt affect me because right now you just talking about stuff you have no idea about. On the other hand I am talking about facts . Can i say it again FACTS.....MEDICAL SCIENCE.
Tell me does Gibbs REQUIRE his offensive and defensive lineman to wear knee braces for practice. I dont think so.
" I know you gonna let me shine and get mine" Young Buck of G-Unit
Those are FACTS, and I acknoledged that. Injuries CAN be caused by that. That doesn't mean all injuries ARE caused by stretching. It also does not make a coach soft if someone on his team gets injured during a full contact sport. My tirade was over the top to make a point. I can draw whatever conclusions I want for certain events. I could also make the argument that Gibbs is tough on his players and they are fatigued and that's why they get injured. I could make a whole rash of arguments. As far as knee braces, who gives a rat's butt. Completely irrelevent. Players can be hurt whether they are in super physical condition or out of shape. They can get hurt with or without a knee brace. It's the nature of the game and any assertion otherwise is simply a sad and pathetic attempt to make something out of nothing.

Too soft for the modern day player? Steve Spurrier was too soft. Gibbs runs a very tight, disciplined ship which involves extensive off season and training camp conditioning. To call him soft on the players is amusing. In Gibbs' first tenure, I lived near Bobby Bethard and my mom (and coincidentally my in-laws) still knows him very well. To hear from his mouth how Gibbs gets his teams ready is amazing. Where are your facts? I've been a critic of Lavar's all off season but the guy sprained his knee. I used to train with olympic wrestlers in high school and college and was in ridiculous shape and I severely sprained my knee (along with injuring a million other things). I can sure as hell tell you that the training I was going through wasn't soft, nor do I think this injury has anything to do with Gibbs being soft. Ha! That made me laugh.
The opinion of 10,000 men is of no value if none of them know anything about the subject.
Joe Gibbs Maybe what Rison needed was a coach like Washington Redskins head coach Joe Gibbs. He's been working his new team into the ground. During two-a-day sessions, the players usually practiced at 9 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., so their typical day began at 6 a.m. and usually ended with meetings that started at 10:15 p.m. "We haven't taken the pads off yet," said wide receiver Laveranues Coles on Aug. 16. "We started camp on July 25 and we haven't missed a day. I'll watch guys on television and they're practicing in helmets and shorts. We'll be in pads even on the day before the game [a practice usually reserved for a light walk-through session]. This makes the season real long."
When asked if the Redskins needed such a tough camp, Coles said, "I'd think most guys don't think they need this. But it is what it is. If it goes well and everything works out, then we needed this. But if it doesn't, we'll all be wondering what all this work was supposed to accomplish."
Yep, Gibbs sounds SOFT to me. Ofcourse, SI probably doesn't have their FACTS right since they didn't consult DC's self proclaimed #1 cowboy fan.
"Injuries" must be defined to put the proper perspective on it.
No amount of conditioning/stretching/protective gear can prevent certain types. Broken bones and concussions fall into this category.
With ligament damage, specifically knee and shoulder, the risk can be minimized with proper conditioning, appropriate field conditions/footing and braces, but torn ACLs will always be a part of sports.
Muscle injuries can always be lessened through proper conditioning/stretching. Core body work is usually the most successful method. Proper protective gear also prevents many of the deep tissue injuries.
One off-season isn't enough to properly implement the corrections that some athletes need.
Using a baseball example of proper technique, look at the fantastic job that the Braves have done with their pitching staff. Leo Mazzone has just the right amount of stretching, throwing and lifting worked in and the results show. His teams have always maitained healthy starters compared to the rest of the league.
Using a football example, Parcells' 2nd year in Dallas has shown what two off-seasons can do for the health of a team. One player who started camp has missed a day's practice because of injury (Dan Campbell).
The injuries that Washington is experiencing seem to fall into every category and should concern Redskins' fans, but I would wait until year two of Gibbs before I would label it a "systemic problem".
This space reserved for BTP......If he ever wins it.

Then why is everyone so critical of Lovie Smith pushing the Bears so hard AND all the injuries.... it's Football injuries will happen weather conditioning/or lack of... streching/or lack of
There have been so many non contact injuries this pre-season it hard to say it's one thing or another
