I think for Griffin to have a real chance to contribute he'll need to play for a team running some sort of spread concept that simplifies the reads for him. I'm not sure how many teams to that now but without some simple zone read scheme to run I'm not sure too many teams are going to be interested.

Obviously Griffin was set back by multiple injuries but I believe he failed in DC because he was unable to learn how to read defenses and go through his progresses fast enough despite getting all the starter reps during camp every year. McCoy and Cousins both learned how to do it with far less repetitions in practice. Why were they able to function with far less practice opportunities? Did Robert work hard enough studying defenses, route trees, pocket presence, protections and the like and just not pick it up or did he fail to work at it?

Maybe Griffin invested is time as the 3rd stringer as well as Cousins did studying and addressing his weakness, spending time studying video and learning how to read defenses and go through the progressions. Watching Kirk play and studying his film afterwards might have helped Robert if he but in the time. I suspect Griffin put in his workout time and sat around waiting for Cousins to fail and him to be restored to his rightful place. It will be interesting what sort of opportunity Griffin gets and how he performs.

lol. We're paying Griffin $6,719,713 this year. In what weird universe is that not a waste of money?

are you sure about that? I thought it was less than that ...
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

You are both right.......

http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/washington-redskins/robert-griffin-iii

TECHNICALLY his salary was 6,719,713 --- but that includes his signing bonus which was most likely paid to him in 2012 (if he was smart, he would have structured the bonus so that it converts to a capital gain for tax purposes, but most of these guys don't since their "advisors" -- even the CFPs they employ --- are idiots). His actual salary was $3.4M, which is what the team paid him THIS YEAR.
RIP Sean Taylor. You will be missed.

Age Pass Attempts in Pro System* Years in Pro System
Russell Wilson 27 3224 8
Andrew Luck 26 3170 7
Ryan Tannehill 27 2787 6
Nick Foles 26 2634 8
Kirk Cousins 27 2078 8
Robert Griffin 25 1063 4

*college passes included*

I am a firm believer in a QB getting better by actual reps with that said I can understand why some think Rg3 cannot play in a traditional system. You can also see why by these statistics. He's behind and like all the coaches have said, injuries are just ONE of the things hurting his development.

These stats also show why Kirk has a better grasp and understanding than RG in the pro system and he's 4 years ahead. Kirk may become even more consistent next year if you look at his #'s compared to Lucks, Wilson.

But back on topic, I feel that if RG3 was 8 years within pro system and still where he is, there would be signs of concern but giving his lack of history and attempts there is some hope for another team that he could flourish down the road with if they are patient with him. 1000 pass attempts ago there was less hope for Kirk too.

I'm very happy that we have Kirk Cousins and I think he could become a lot better QB than most of us thought possible and even better a lot sooner than anyone thought possible last August

ADMITTEDLY - RG3 is a huge question mark but I'm not convinced (like some here are) that he's never going to be a good NFL QB

and why not try him out at another position - that 110M hurdles guy that plays for Alabama looked pretty good on Monday night = 2 TDs
