It is easy to say we have holes everywhere - almost every team does in the era of free agency + injuries. What is more important is how you work with what you have while striving for progressive upgrades along the way. The GM is doing just that. We'll lose a few pieces, but I think the start of next year will have the team a little stronger than the year before, with the promise that such a trend will become the norm, not the exception.

Re: DJax - Gruden said in the press conference that they had him targeted a few times but either Cousins didn't see him or the pressure was too much to make a play downfield.

My biggest takeaways for Cousins:
1. He didn't crumble under the pressure of post-season or the defensive onslaught. He was courageous, although showed his inexperience at times.
2. He has to learn to "feel" the pressure better. He has a great pocket presence, but I think in the offseason he could do well to learn how to take a step this way or that way in the pocket to avoid a sack and slip away to make a play. He has enough athleticism, but needs to practice this more.
3. No reason not to think Cousins can lead a talented team deep in future post season play. He should build a solid career around the foundation set in the 2015-2016 year under Gruden. Let's hope we lock him into a nice contract.

It was in his locker ALL SEASON long.

Still, if I were to leave 1 single thing in my locker upon exit, that wouldn't be it ---- but at least he didn't go onto his computer, draft that up, print it out, bring it to the stadium yesterday, and then tape it to his locker as he was leaving. The note was a little diva-ish, but whatever.

The only thing I hope for RGIII is that be is able to understand that his problems/deficiencies aren't because of "everyone else".

All in all the message is a good one, but not entirely appropriate given the circumstances..... I also think the pic looks photoshopped.
RIP Sean Taylor. You will be missed.

So, what is the big deal? Has anyone heard a single word about selfish, disruptive, divaish, tempestuous, snarky, petulant, or any other kind of negative behavior from Bob this year???
This is the same kind of thing that I have said to my kids when things haven't gone well for them... perhaps, it is exactly what it appears on the surface... a well intended attempt to support friends who are hurting from a disappointment, and are, undoubtedly, hearing contemptuous and derogatory words about their performance.

Nah... couldn't be anything that simple...

Make no mistake about it, he left this for a reason. He of all people should know the media would jump all over it...not to mention the picture of him cleaning out his locker wearing a blue hat with stars

There is a full video of him cleaning out his locker and moving this and retaping it to the center of his locker. He knew he was being filmed.

Whatever... he has handled his benching with nothing but class... even if only to prove that he will not be a disruptive influence on the locker room of a future team. Why would he suddenly decide to get snarky? This is not a stupid man. I know people who try hard to live by this philosophy ( I am not one of them... I have no problem getting even), and RG has declared this lifestyle to be his as well. Yet, despite no clear evidence of bitterness, folks continue to insist on interpreting the hidden agenda behind his actions. I don't know... I think he's been pretty clear, and, unfortunately, naïve in thinking that folks would take him at face value.

Not that it matters... he is done as a 'skin, and will be moving on. I continue to wish him the best, and, should it come to light that the doubters and biters were right, I will be disappointed... and ready to see my team crush him (as I suggested... I have no problem with payback).

Yet another dose of Griffin's passive aggressive behavior. So tired of this guy and his drama. Reminds me of an old country song.

The very nature of this note would lend itself to not doing what he did with it. I too wish him nothing but the best. There are and he will be given the opportunity to “say goodbye”. It’s a powerful thing to be and be told you’re the best all your life, then to find out you’re not the best. Yes he’s been good this season, why wouldn’t he, he’s auditioning for another team, My only point is with all he’s been through you think he would have learned that this would become a story. If he didn’t then he’s not learned much.

Now we have one choice to make - in which direction do we kick to open the game? We chose to go with the wind. We ended the quarter near midfield up 5-0 (should've been 9-0) and then finished the drive with a TD to go up 11-0 (should've been 16-0).

Since GB made the choice they did with the toss we now have 2 options before the 2nd half starts. We can either choose to receive or we can choose the direction to start the 2nd half. We chose to receive meaning GB got to choose the direction for their kickoff.

Several years ago we played the Ginas in the NFC championship before deferring was an option. We won the toss and took the ball (since we could not defer). The Ginas chose a direction.

The Ginas had first choice in the 2nd half and again, chose a direction. Naturally, we then chose to receive.

We NEVER kicked off in that game and the Ginas were going the direction they wanted to open/close both halves. I'm not sure but I think they had it for the 1st and 4th quarters.

Yes, the Patriots mistake was choosing to kick... they should've chosen the option of which goal to defend.

I can only surmise that the level of angst that this 'departure' has stirred up is due in part to nervousness that some here have about whether their judgement of this guy may be wrong, after all ... He's done here and yet some still want to find a negative in almost everything he does

I hope he acquits himself well but like Countertrey said, if he's QB on another team playing against the Redskins I hope he's on the losing side

but why worry about all that if you're a hater - you all know that he cannot play QB .... don't you?

Isn't that why they couldn't defend the goal Belichick wanted to defend...Because they chose to Kick instead of defend...point being you can't choose both? (just using it as a comparision of what happened yesterday)

Stupid? No, Robert is not stupid but obviously he isn't an especially mature or disciplined young man either. Leaving this note to set off one more media dumpster on checkout day is another foolish exhibition of passive aggressive behavior that doesn't serve Griffin's interests.

What game when ???

Teams (unless they brain fart) do not choose to kick. They choose a direction.

If they choose a direction with 1st choice the other team has 2nd choice and, naturally, takes the ball.

If they choose a direction with 2nd choice then they are doing so because the other team chose to receive.

Choosing a direction with first choice is tantamount to choosing to kick but absolutely NOT equivalent. If you won the toss and said "We choose to kick" then the other team could say "Great, since you are kicking, we will receive from this end."

From the outsider looking in

I will say that to climb out from underneath the shadow of a failed NFC East only to be 1 and done
in the playoffs doesn't leave much to be desired..but it does show heart, and with Ny, Dallas and
Philly all in some form of rebuild from this disaster season..Washington may get to again capitalize
and bring back the Skins of old next season

A fun season no doubt. Playoff game was a great bonus. Going forward, next years schedule looks scary. Will teams game plan us (Kirk in particular) better with film from the last half of our season? It seemed Green Bay had us scouted very well. Kirk could have easily had 3 ints (one pick 6) yesterday. Hopefully we improve in the off season. Hail

What strikes me about the season and the way it ended was the ineffectiveness and inconsistency of our running game. During the stretch and with the streak at the end, Cousins and the passing stepped up, but the running game did not. For the whole season Cousins was constantly under the microscope, or in the fishbowl, or whatever other metaphor you like. But he got very little support in the running game. Maybe it is my bias from the Gibbs era, but I have no confidence of ever getting deep into the playoffs without a smash-mouth "win in the trenches" mindset. Yesterday I saw Morris getting stuffed again and again and again. There were a handful of good runs, but it was feast or famine -- mostly famine. OL did better than expected in pass protection this year, so I cannot put all of it on the OL. What's the problem? Wrong personnel? Badly designed plays? My hope for the offseason is to improve the running game.

Agreed... the running game was, ultimately, the downfall of the offense. It was inconsistent, unreliable, and could not extend a drive. The failure to score after Jackson's brain fart was on the run game... Almo was incredibly soft in these situations (very disappointing). Jones may have been more effective, but was not available. G C G could not get movement.

The O-line is probably close... maybe a Guard... maybe a Center... but, it's pretty clear that Almo is not a banger. I suspect he is past peak already. Anxious to see what Scot does...

I'd place most of the blame on the injury to Shawn Lauvao. We ran great early in the year against some VERY tough fronts.

Alf 25-121 against Fins and Jones 19-123 against Rams.

Then Lauvao and Licht went down and things were never the same.

The Jets/Pats game the last week of the season. The game went into OT, Pats won the toss and elected to kick. Belichick wanted to defend a certain goal (I believe the great Belichick actually screwed this up not the player) and instructed his player that they wanted to kick and defend that goal. But when he elected to kick, that automatically gave the Jets the ball and their decision on what goal to defend.
