Where does Cousins' Season Rank?

Post by markshark84 »

Where would people rank Cousins' 2015 regular season in the franchises' best QB seasons of all-time?

Cousins redskins all-time franchise rank; passing stats:
Passing Yards: 1st
TDs: T-2nd
Passing %: 1st (over 200 attempts)
Completions: 1st
Attempts: 1st
QB Rating: 2nd (over 200 attempts)
INTs: 57th
Net yards per attempt (adjusted): 5th (over 200 attempts)

Personally, I would put it 2nd all time, behind RGIII's 2012 season. 2012 was a very special year. Rypien's 1991 year may also be better (although he had a better supporting cast so I may take Cousins purely on stats and overall contribution), but otherwise I don't see another. That being said, I also think that we'll see him receiving a contract more in the 5 year - $90 to 100M range now.

Dude has gotten better and better with each game. If you take his QBR in 3 game chunks:
1-3: 50.1
4-6: 55.2
7-9: 61.8
10-13: 62.9
14-16: 92*

And guys, this is what development looks like. It doesn't take years, it doesn't matter how many OCs they've had, it doesn't matter if they have a patchwork OL --- talent is something you can see very easily. Even for a QB, development can be seen in a matter of a month or two. It can be gradual as we saw with Cousins, but a QB doesn't go from really bad in a season to good suddenly after a year or two. There is a progression that should be visible.

*I discounted week 17 and only gave it 1/2 the value of weeks 15 & 16.

And because I don't want to make an entire thread about it I'll say it here: that pass to Garcon yesterday was a thing of beauty. One of the best passes from snap to completion I have seen in a VERY long time. I am not easily impressed --- but when I saw Cousins take that snap, drop back 3 steps, pre-adjust to avoid Crawford (Long, again, missing his block and was laying on his stomach) first with a slight side step then more with his shoulders, see an open Reed, pumped to throw to him, then mid-process saw Garcon further down the field and threw an impromptu strike to Garcon --- I literally shook my head and said "holy s&!^" out loud.
RIP Sean Taylor. You will be missed.

It's certainly the greatest "quiet" season in the history of the Skins, IMO.
