I'd say 9. We only have the wiggle room to lose one more game for the year, IMO.

I think 9 wins will do it, possibly using a tie-breaker.

I voted 8, but if the vaGiants can right their ship, it could easily take 9.

Remaining schedules:
NYG (5-6): NYJ, @MIA, CAR, @MINN, PHI
PHI (4-7): @NE, BUF, AZ, WAS, @NYG
DAL (3-8): @WAS, @GB, NYJ, @BUF, WAS
WAS: DAL, @CHI, BUF, @PHI, @DAL

I see NYG winning as little as 2 and as many as 4 of their remaining. Most likely 3 wins putting them at 8-8.
PHI will most likely not win 4 of their next 5 as they will lose to an upset NE team and could very well lose to any of the remaining teams on their schedule. Let's say they go 6-10.
DAL needs to win out most likely and with 2 games against us and @GB and BUF, that is highly unlikely.

I'd say we have the easiest schedule moving forward of the group since Romo is out for the year. CHI is 5-6 and won 3 of their past 4 and have been close in their recent losses. The only thing going for us is they are 1-4 at home. BUF is a hard team to read. They are up and down. I'd like to say we win this game only because it is at home and we play much better there. @PHI & DAL will not be easy regardless of their records. My gut tells me we drop one of those 2 games. All in all, I think we need to win 3 games in order to say we win the division.
RIP Sean Taylor. You will be missed.

Good analysis, but I think we beat Chicago simply because we always seem to play them well, regardless of the records. And I expect a big day for Desean Jackson @ the Smeagols. I'm thinking the Pies are cooked since Romo is gone, so we stand a good chance in both those games. It could very well come down to the final game of the season, if the vaGiants don't crash and burn.

What exactly have we done that instills confidence in our winning two road games in inclement weather? Those are going to determine our fate, not the divisional games. If we win the next four we'll be playing Dallas in Dallas the day after Christmas just for the purpose of kicking their asses but I'm just not as confident in our ability to win road games as you appear to be.

I say 9 because I can see the Giants with 1 win but a battle for another 3 - they could win over the Jets, Miami & Vikings. We'll need 9 wins.

I don't take a single game on that schedule for granted. It won't surprise me one bit if the Cowboys come in here on Monday night and win.

I thought I gave my reasons in my post. And there is no guarantee of inclement weather, either. Also, @ Smeagols is a divisional game. In fact, 3 out of 5 of our remaining games are against divisional opponents (and divisional record is the first tie-breaker after head to head), so I don't see how you can say those games won't determine our fate. :hmm:

This. Use the rest of the season to convince everyone else. If we back into the playoffs, that would suck. I want my team bopping everyone on the nose, and earning it, not looking at the scoreboard to see if the Ginas lost. I want them to stroll into FedEx next Monday, and declare "Jerruh! IMMA BOP YOUR NOSE!"... and, then, do it. Then, go into Chitown, and call up the ghost of Halas, and declare "Ghost of George! IMMA BOP YOUR NOSE!" I'd love to see em Bop Son o' Buddy on the nose, and "almost gone" Chip on the nose, and finish up Bopping Jerruh's nose right on the JerruhTron... and, DAMN!!! that's 10 and 6, and no backing into the playoffs because is doesn't matter what the hell the Ginas do...

There... I said it.

The Giants only have one division game left against the Eagles but they have three conference games and they are going to get murdered by Carolina and probably lose to Minnesota so it will come down to overall record, not divisional record.
I'm going on the premise that we're going to win at least two of the remaining divisional games which seems reasonable. That would put us at 4-2 in the division. The best the Giants can finish is 3-3 in the division.
Unfortunately for us the Giants play two garbage teams in the Dolphins and the Eagles and, unlike us, they have won a couple of road games.

We've neither beaten a team with a winning record nor won a road game this season. 8-[

Fortunately, we don't play a team with a winning record the remainder of the season. But we do play those road games and we have to win at least one of them. My 2 cents

It will only come down to overall record if we have different records.

If we win our 3 remaining divisional games and lose the others, we will be 8-8.

If Giants go 8-8, we got 'em on divisional record. It could very easily come down to this. If we go 8-8 in this way then the Ginas would have to win at least 4 out of 5 for division records not to matter (ignoring tie games).

TO BREAK A TIE WITHIN A DIVISION

If, at the end of the regular season, two or more clubs in the same division finish with identical won-lost-tied percentages, the following steps will be taken until a champion is determined.

Two Clubs

Head-to-head (best won-lost-tied percentage in games between the clubs).
Best won-lost-tied percentage in games played within the division.
Best won-lost-tied percentage in common games.
Best won-lost-tied percentage in games played within the conference.
Strength of victory.
Strength of schedule.
Best combined ranking among conference teams in points scored and points allowed.
Best combined ranking among all teams in points scored and points allowed.
Best net points in common games.
Best net points in all games.
Best net touchdowns in all games.
Coin toss

We are both 5-6 and we split head-to-head.

In East we are 2-1 and they are 2-3.

In NFC we are 5-3 and they are 4-5.

I just realized our remaining strength of schedule is a lot easier than the Giants remaining strength of schedule. I like our odds.

From the Skins: NFL's 4th Hardest Remaining Schedule thread - on November 16th I posted :

So here we are - 7 games to go (giants have 6) and the standings are:

giants = 5-5 ...... I predict 8-8 - losing @ Redskins; Panthers & @ Vikings
Redskins = 4-5 .. I predict 9-7 - losing @ Panthers & @ Cowboys
Eagles = 4-5 ..... I predict 7-9 - losing to Buccaneers; @ Patriots; Cardinals & Redskins
pukes = 2-7 ...... I predict 6-10 - losing to (maybe) @ Dolphins; Panthers; @ Redskins; @Packers

2 weeks later, things have changed a little ... but that's not far off ... :lol:
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

I think our chances of winning the division and going to the playoffs hinge on how well we do on the road. We haven't won one yet, so that is a troubling thought. I do believe, however, that we have a better shot at it than the Giants if we take care of business against the Fecals and the Cowpies. :)

I think 3 wins (8-8) gets us in as long as the wins come against NFC teams. We can afford to lose the Bills games. I think we win 2 at home and 1 on the road...what scares me is playing for a playoff birth on the last week of the season @ Dallas!!

Boy is this division garbage. It's amazing; grew up when the NFC East was basically the division of superbowl winners (and the Eagles...and Cardinals). Now...it's the worst division in football.
