Somebody Said Cousins Couldn't Throw Deep..
I have no interest in naming names but at least 1 frequent poster and harsh Cousins critic said Kirk couldn't throw a long ball. With Jackson back today Kirk dropped a perfectly throw deep ball into Jackson's hands for 6!

He threw a great deep ball into Roberts too. Roberts wasn't fast enough to catch up with old noodle arm.

I didn't watch game but Cousins stats look ok. Any comments on how he showed today. Also, seems like Alf had a good day.

Re: Somebody Said Cousins Couldn't Throw Deep..
Nice to see the noodle arm airing it out a bit.. Glad he made an accurate deep pass too!
Djac is soooo fast... We need to see more of him deep. At least make the D honest
That play was EPIC tho... And nearly had Roberts too

Cousins showed that he's a good NFL QB - hopefully he's here until Scot can bring in a good starting NFL QB - it's not that critical right now
Cousins was OK against the 32nd ranked pass defense in the NFL - he's not that good but he's good enough - all that matters right now is that we are in first place in the NFC East - we're certainly not there just because of Cousins play, we're there because of a number of other factors

These were Tom Brady's stats against the 32d ranking passing defense in the league btw.

OK he was better than OK but he certainly was not what you'd call very good - that pass defense is horrible ..

let's not lose sight of the FACT that we're winning the NFC East and it's not because of Cousins, it's because of a lot of other people busting their butt and picking up the slack here - the coaching and QB play could have been a lot better - it was OK ... not very good

Cousins is a really good back up NFL QB and we are VERY lucky to have him but we'll be a lot better when we have a good starting QB

I can wait

Doug Williams and Mark Rypien were never franchise quarterbacks. They were successful because of the people around them. This team is still asking Cousins to do too much. Perhaps we wouldn't be talking about replacing Cousins if we had a better team overall? Perhaps Cousins would appear to us to be a better quarterback if we had a better defense and a more consistent running game?
Re: Somebody Said Cousins Couldn't Throw Deep..
OK let's hash that out - are you prepared to say that if we'd been playing with Tom Brady at QB today, he would not have had better stats than Cousins ... don't give me any BS about what Tom did against the Giants, that is totally not relevant - just try and make the case that Tom Brady today, would not have had a better day than Cousinsriggofan wrote:These were Tom Brady's stats against the 32d ranking passing defense in the league btw.

Kirk Cousins is a good NFL QB but he cannot carry Williams or Rypien's jock straps - there's no comparison, they are starting NFL QBs that won NFL Super Bowls

Re: Somebody Said Cousins Couldn't Throw Deep..
I drive the ball 300 yds once or twice a season but that doesn't mean I can do it all the time. Cousins had a good throw. He had to run 4 yards to get enough umph to throw it 45 yds but he did it. He threw it like a hail mary. There was probably a 20 mph wind gust at his back too. If I want to see the real Kirk Cosuins Ill watch the Jets game, the Pats game, the Carolina game.
These are usually good wins. But in this case it increases the odds we have a very bad coach and a BU QB who cant suck for more than one game in a row for another year. We win this game but it dooms us to mediocrity for years longer if DS isn't smart and doesn't get rid of Gruden.
And how did Eli Manning throw for 3 picks and we win by less than a TD if we were any good?

Re: Somebody Said Cousins Couldn't Throw Deep..
Cousins played well today. I give him a B- grade.
Kirk has thrown deep balls before but my only gripe with him is his inability to throw it consistently and hit intermediate and deep balls like he did last year. They actually went deep twice which is good. With a guy like Djax you gotta give him 1 per qtr. But yeah Kirks been last in the league in yards per pass for quite awhile now and teams dont fear his ability to make big plays but hes starting to take baby steps so Im cool with it.

He throws one long pass on the season, and you want to crow about it? Give it a rest, already.

Re: Somebody Said Cousins Couldn't Throw Deep..
There are reasons why Cousins isn't throwing a lot of deep passes that have nothing whatsoever to do with his arm strength. The offensive line can't protect him on seven step drops against most defenses. The three step drops and screen passes are by design to keep him from getting injured because the backup is Colt McCoy, who inspires and instills confidence in no one. Contrary to some opinions Gruden knows exactly what he's doing with the dink and dunk offense. If the offensive line wasn't a makeshift collection of backups and rookies and could be trusted to keep Cousins healthy we'd see a lot more deep balls. That's what they're paying Desean Jackson for, to lead the league in big plays again, but there is no viable option behind Cousins. RGIII isn't playing another snap with this team. That should be abundantly clear now that noodle-armed backup Kirk Cousins has led the team from worst to first in the division.

Re: Somebody Said Cousins Couldn't Throw Deep..
Worst to first with 5 wins.. don't church it up. Have we beat an OVER .500 team?
I agree to an extent.. part of the reason he doesn't go deep is due to his weak arm, the ball floats for a year so it's highly inaccurate- rightfully so, that and he throws GANGS of interceptions. And THAT, my friend, is why he is "dinkn an dunkn". Not to preserve his health, that's ludicrous.
Btw, this makeshift oline under the best online coach in the league, is top ten; granted Kirks quick release helps, but IS getting time bro

Re: Somebody Said Cousins Couldn't Throw Deep..
I can't believe this - who cares about the strength of Kirk Cousins arm - we are leading the NFC East and Kirk Cousins is the QB
Kirk Cousins arm strength has nothing to do with his ability - he's a very good back-up QB that we need to keep until we get an NFL starting QB
that may take Scot and the FO a couple more years - no big deal
we're leading the NFC East and Kirk Cousins is the QB - that is all that matters

Re: Somebody Said Cousins Couldn't Throw Deep..
ckRGiii is exactly right - this hopeless O line is giving Kirk an incredible amount of time - I know we're going to work on the defense but when we get some decent O line guys in here, our offense is going to be awesome

DJax has also been on the sidelines for most of the season, meaning he had no deep threat to throw the damn ball, as T.O. once said. There are a lot of reasons that have nothing to do with arm strength.

Re: Somebody Said Cousins Couldn't Throw Deep..
I feel like people think this is a Cowboys message board based on some of the posts.
Why do we have to qualify Kirk Cousins as a "back up" or "starter" - Does he start? Yes. By definition, he is a starting QB until such time when coaches bench him and he then becomes a back up QB.
The QB is one piece - albeit a critical piece - of the puzzle. Kirk can throw deep, he has proven it. He does need the other parts of the offense to work to make that happen on a more consistent basis. It's getting there. While the running game is still hot/cold, a coach honestly cannot risk stalling drives over a missed deep throw. It's just not worth it except 1-2 times to keep the defense honest. Once the running game gets consistent, shots will be much easier to take. If you look at the Redskins teams from Superbowl eras, they had some big pass plays, but it was almost always set up by play-action. Gruden is slowly using more play action, but even yesterday's 4Q was a perfect example where the team could have delivered a dagger instead of stalling had they used play-action. His WC/dink&dunk offense just does not employ it as much.
Too many things to analyze, but Kirk is playing in the middle of the pack of NFL starters, QB rating rank 18 and 15th in passing yards. Cousins is doing his job well. Period. End of story. Consistency is the word that haunts this year's team. Week to week, it's either Kirk (@Falcons), the RB tandem (@Jets), the O-line (@Giants), the WRs (@Pats) , etc. deserving the bulk of the blame for a loss. When all the parts click, the Redskins are extremely difficult to beat. Getting Dallas next week is a sweet recipe for finally winning back-to-back games this year.

Re: Somebody Said Cousins Couldn't Throw Deep..
The one good thing to note on Cousins is that he is learning from the pocket. If RGIII could be doing that then we would have a great combo for years to come. If, if RGIII is doing the work hopefully he'll be back. Crazier things have happened.
Re: Somebody Said Cousins Couldn't Throw Deep..
Hilarious to see people still bashing Kirk, for what I’m guessing is so they can be right?? Comparing a NFL QB hitting a long ball to an amateur driving a golf ball 300 yards…
I see some are even calling him an “NFL QB”…I thought he was at best a backup???
