Terrible run game...!!!

Post by tribeofjudah »

I've got much love for Al Mo. Our 2nd back is not cutting it yet.

Could we have drafted Gurley? Should we have? BPA.....I think he would have fit the bill.
Gurley is playing like a beast right now.

Don't think Gurley would be killing it here.

From Rich Tandler's Real Redskins:

The Redskins rushed for 37 yards. They now have had no more than 51 rushing yards in their last four games. Never in their history have they gone four games in a row gaining 51 yards rushing or fewer.

Barry Sanders couldn't run behind this blocking.

The lack of a run game did not seem to stop the offense and Kirk Cousins from finding a way to beat The Buccaneers

it's simple, we need to get more rushing yards, hold onto more passes & the defense needs to give up less points & create more turnovers

AND - we just need Kirk Cousins and Jay Gruden to find a way to win a few more games so they can come back next year
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

We just aren't committed to the running game. Gruden loves to just chuck it around the yard, and we cannot win that way on a consistent basis. We need to get back to a commitment to the running game. 24, 19, 17 15 rushing atttempts in the last four games. That isn't going to cut it.

You have to have sustained drives though to run the ball. We only tried to run the ball 15 times. Those three and outs are a back breaker.

I agree with the overall sentiment. But just pounding our fists and complaining that the run blocking is horrible isn't the whole story.

When we are down 14-0 in the first quarter, the run game plan kind of becomes moot.

It doesn't help that the offensive line started bad and went to worse with not one, not two, not three, but four for all intents and purposes rookies starting. I know they made a concerted effort to keep LeRibeus by trying to teach him to play center but LeRibeus must be French for "Olé" because that's his basic blocking technique. Lauvao was a pleasant surprise for the few games he played but Long was kind of thrown into the fire. We knew Scherff and Moses would take at least a full season to learn the pro game. All five guys need to play together more than a handful of games to be effective run blockers. It's not the end of the world. We knew this was going to be a tough season. It's not as though the running game is the only element keeping us from being a competitive playoff team.

It shouldn't. When there's over 45 minutes to play, that is no time to throw out the game plan. Especially, when we have only run one play on offense.

They actually did pretty well in pass pro, picking up several blitzes. I was pleasantly surprised. I think it's more of an issue of not committing to the run, more so than the O-line is not progressing as a unit, although that is a factor too.

Good explain. I also think Cory showed leadership there and he is out, I'm wondering about Moses. I don't know if he is going to make it. He needs to be good at either pass blocking or run blocking but he seems to be missing both.

I don't know about the rest of the line, but Moses definitely had a bad game yesterday. He was responsible for the sack and I think he got called for a holding penalty too that negated a first down?

May have been his worse game.

They're abandoning the run as soon as we get behind. Look this is a building toward the future year so we need to continue to work the run. Grudges is coaching scared, which is understandable with the mighty midget as the owner, but it's killing our game across the board offensively

If you have an opponent who is starting a pick-prone backup QB who has a weak arm and has shown no ability to throw the ball accurately greater than 10 yards down the field, what would you do?

a. Play the QB like he can throw it downfield
b. Stuff the run and make the noodle arm beat you

We cannot run because the other team is daring us to throw the ball. We have a dumb coach who cannot make adjustments and a weak armed QB whose accuracy falls off a cliff after 10 yards.

disguise plays that even the coaching staff cannot recognize. stuff the run. make an inferior talent beat you through the air.

We barely beat Tampa Bay at home. Actually TB gave the game away as they outplayed the Gruden led Redskins in almost every category. TB was penalized a franchise record setting 16 times. Take away TB's incredible number of penalties (16 pen for 142 yards negating at least one score- Tampa Bay has never had that many penalties in it's existence) and take away a fantastic catch by Garcon in the endzone in a previous game, we would be 1-7.

How do you take a young Pro Bowl RB who has rushed for 1000+ yards in each of his first three seasons and make him a non-factor? Empower Jay Gruden and make Cousins a starting QB.
