Dolphins, Bears agree to swap Pro Bowl players

The Miami Dolphins and Bears have agreed to trade involving a pair of Pro Bowl players.

FOXSports.com has learned that the Dolphins have agreed to a trade of holdout defensive end Adewale Ogunleye for Bears receiver Marty Booker and a third-round pick in 2005. The deal, however, is dependent upon the Bears reaching a contract agreement with Ogunleye by 7 p.m. ET Saturday. If no deal is reached then the trade would not be complete.
Ogunleye has been a holdout this preseason after refusing to come into camp with a restricted tender offer. He had 15 sacks for the Fins a year ago and should dramatically help the Bears pass rush, which recently flip-flopped its defensive ends to juggle things up a bit.

Booker had two 1,000-yard-plus seasons during the past three years and should dramatically upgrade the Dolphins passing attack, an attack which recently lost David Boston to a knee injury.

Obviously it was never a question of whether the Redskins could come up with a package to acquire Ogunleye. The question was whether they could free up the cap space it would take to sign him once they did. And apparently the answer was no.

Marty Booker is actually a very good receiver, he is much better than Gardner in my opinion. For the Dolphins to make this trade with the Skins I believe we would have to give up Gardner and a 2nd round pick.

Bears offering $4 Million O-Gun wants atleast 11

Despite a conditional trade agreement that would send Dolphins holdout defensive end Adewale Ogunleye to Chicago, and land Bears standout wide receiver Marty Booker in Miami, it appeared late Saturday afternoon that both high-profile players will stay put.

The deal, aimed at filling huge holes for both teams, is conditional upon the Bears being able to reach a contract accord with Ogunleye, the leading sacker in the AFC in 2003, by 7 p.m. ET on Saturday. And the agent for Ogunleye told ESPN.com that he is "very pessimistic" about being able to strike a deal so quickly.

"The money [being offered by the Bears]," agent Drew Rosenhaus said, "just isn't there. I can't, in good conscience, do this deal. I'm still convinced that there are better deals out there for 'Wale.' And as he indicated earlier this week, he is willing to sit, and he is very serious about that, until he gets the [contract] he wants."

Our Chicago moles tells us that the only remaining glitch in the trade of Dolphins defensive end Adewale Ogunleye to the Bears for receiver Marty Booker and a third-round draft choice is the willingness of ownership to pay Ogunleye a signing bonus of $12 million.

Per the mole, the total deal that G.M. Jerry Angelo and agent Drew Rosenhaus negotiated is a five-year deal with a max value ranging from $25 million to $50 million.

If the McCaskeys ultimately refuse to fork over so much coin to Ogunleye, our guess is that the development won't bode well for Angelo's future tenure in Chitown -- and it won't do much for Booker's morale to know that he was a whisker away from getting dealt out of town, roughly two years after signing a long-term deal with the Bears.

Yeah the deadline was 7pm but the last I heard (7:20 or so) they are still talking. It will be kind of hard to look at Booker in the morning with him know they spent half the eveing trying to trade him, but they are dealing with Drew

Bears-Dolphins Trade Period Extended

The proposed trade that would send Miami Dolphins holdout defensive end Adewale Ogunleye to Chicago for wide receiver Marty Booker and a third-round pick has now been extended. The deal could not get completed at the 7:00 p.m. ET deadline Saturday and now will continue throughout the weekend. Reports are that Ogunleye was looking for a deal at least equal to the free-agent contract defensive end Grant Wistrom signed with the Seahawks — a deal that included $21 million over the first three years of the contract and $14 million to sign. Reports out of Chicago are indicating that Marty Booker did not suit up for tonight's preseason game against the forty niners.

Bears Acquire Dolphins DE Adewale Ogunleye

The Miami Dolphins and Chicago Bears have completed a trade that would send Pro Bowl defensive end Adewale Ogunleye to the Chicago Bears for Pro Bowl wide receiver Marty Booker and a 2005 third-round draft choice.The deal is contingent upon Ogunleye passing a Bears physical, which isn't expected to be a problem. An NFL source said Ogunleye is slated to sign a six-year, $33 million contract that will pay him $20 million in the first three seasons.Ogunleye led the AFC in sacks last season with 15, but the Dolphins were unable to make progress in signing him to a contract extension during the offseason. Ogunleye was engaged in a lengthy contract holdout, prompting the Dolphins earlier this week to seek a trade.

You can lay the blame on this one squarely on Spurrier. If Gardner had a better season last year, the Dolphins would have valued him over Marty Booker.
