ESPN Cancels Man Cave Morning Show
https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/dc- ... -man-cave/
I listened to the show on my drive to work this morning, and didn't see this coming at all. Does anyone know why they got the ax? I genuinely liked the show. Something local for the morning commute. The RGIII/Cousins crap was a bit much at times (Paul was ambiguously pushing the Griffin race issue sometimes), but I didn't think they were bad by any stretch. According to a former producer, the Man Cave was getting ratings higher than Mike & Mike (the show that will be returning) ever got. And before someone chimes in to blame Snyder, this ex-producer went on to say that this had nothing to do with Ashburn.

Jason is probably glad about this - it will give him more time to spend on the RG3 fan club that he's so dedicated to ...

Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

Me too, man. I didn't think much of it when it first came on this summer, but its been really good over the past few weeks. I genuinely liked it as well. And Chris Paul giving Jason Reid crap all the time for being an rg3 hater was hilarious. Much better show than the Sports Junkies these days.
Also gotta say I liked that it really felt like a "DC Show".
Really bummed to hear about this.

I'm just curious as to why it got cancelled so quickly.

It was effectively cancelled before it ever started. You don't give a new show only six months of completely unsupported airtime, especially when that show is already competing with sponsored shows like the Junkies. ESPN decided they didn't actually want a radio show that might say anything negative about the team. They save that for their cable channels.

You know, now that you say that, I did notice that there were ZERO ad spots for that show compared to the other shows throughout the day. You constantly hear ads for Sheehan/Loverro, C00ley/Czaban, but I never once heard one for that show.

Yea, I heard from a good friend of Jason Reid's that they basically stuck it to him the minute he signed the contract. I take everything with a grain of salt but that was obviously true.

But he was probably THE most negative person I've ever heard covering a sports team. He jumped from Griffin to SM to Snyder to Allen to Gruden, and made frequent references to "winter".

Reid isn't one to pull any punches. He's certainly not a "homer" writer. But his reputation for accuracy precedes him. As much as he comes off like a prick he's been right on the money many, many times. The problem is that doesn't necessarily draw sponsors or a following. They don't want guys like Reid and Wise and Boswell writing about the Redskins, much less talking about them on radio. You see a pattern here, right? They all work (or worked) for the Washington Post. Danny's favorite newspaper.

Re: ESPN Cancels Man Cave Morning Show
Chuck Sapienza (Native Washingtonian. 30 year radio vet. Executive Producer for Navy Football. Former EP of Redskins Radio.) has some really interesting comments about this on twitter:
Its unfortunate IMO. Whether you like Jason Reid or not - I understand people get tired of his RG3 stuff - that show was doing nearly ALL Redskins stuff in the morning and doing it way better than the Sports Junkies. So now we get Mike & Mike again doing whatever it is they're doing. yay.
The guy has been beating up on Snyder/Allen for years and justifiably so. There was no way that show was going to stick around.
980s firing of ManCave was pre determined the day they went on air. This was not ratings related. Recently they had 3.4 to Junks 4.2 in demo
ManCave was making traction with little to no support from station management. To give a new show only 6months is a joke.
IMO firing was made before 980 placed them on air. 980 didn't want to pay their contracts in full so they gave ManCave 6 unsupported months
To add to this charade 980 sites ratings for the firing. ManCave had 3.4 in demo. M&M hasn't had a 3.4 in 3+ yrs. Thats why we replaced them

Did they just find out he used to work for the WaPo yesterday?

Completely. He's also not a former Redskin or one of these fans who grew up with the team and has a radio show now.
Oh well. If all that's going to be allowed is rah rah coverage, that's what we're going to get. Its too bad IMO.

Re: ESPN Cancels Man Cave Morning Show
Did not like the show at first but it really grew on me. I loved the first 15 minutes cuz it was FUNNY. I always skipped "Take a Knee."
Was looking forward to Wizards talk this morning and got to hear Greenie talking about butchering a baseball stat for 45 minutes. What joy.

Re: ESPN Cancels Man Cave Morning Show
It was cool. Would have been classic if JReid was just a 3rd guy that had smaller segments. You can't have a real mancave with a softy like Reid lol
