Opportunity to trade RGIII
I just read about the whole disaster which is Ryan Mallett and the Houston Texans. That team is in desperation mode after the drubbing they took this week by Miami, and Mallett has to be on very thin ice after missing the team charter to the game. I don't think I've ever heard of that happening. I think Kirk solidified himslef as our starter for the rest of the season after Sunday's comeback. There seems to be no use in holding RGIII on the roster at this point, and we would be sending him back to his hometown down there in Texas. They may be willing to give up a higher draft pick than we'd get anywhere else at this point. We might as well get something for RG at this point if we can, instead of just losing him at season's end.
Re: Opportunity to trade RGIII
I can't figure out why Griffin is still on the roster

Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

Re: Opportunity to trade RGIII
This was brought up in the beginning of September by a Dallas poster. I personally believe our FO would LOVE to trade RGIII (and why he's on the roster among other reasons), but can't find a taker given his contract situation and Danny boys allegience to him. From a FO perspective, I am sure neither the GM nor the coach care if RGIII is on the roster and doesn't suit up --- because the boss is in love with the kid, keeping him at this point doesn't affect the salary cap, and since he doesn't suit up he doesn't get in the way of active game day roster spots.
I doubt he'll end up on the Texans. We already put our trade requests in and came up empty. As far as whether RGIII would be a good fit in O'Brien's offense --- that is a different story. RGIII doesn't mesh well based on what O'Brien demands from his QBs and the deficiencies RGIII currently has in his game. One of the key elements to O'Brien's offense is his QB's ability to read defenses and react to them using pre-snap movement. Mobility is not a value-added attribute in his scheme. Coming from NE, O'Brien would prefer the Brady type over the RGIII type.
That said, if HOU wants him great. With each week that passes, RGIII becomes less attractive. His contract basically makes him impossible to dispose of and he's a huge risk. He'd have to renogiate his contract. His base this year is $3.3M and he knows this could very well be his last big pay year. No chance he does that at this point in the year. Next season he'll be cut and can choose his team based on those interested. And personally, I think he'll have a couple to select from.

Houston isn't going to offer a bag of wet towels for Griffin who doesn't think fast enough to run an NFL offense and brings a lot of baggage with him. O'Brien has got no use for Griffin who would be as inept in Houston as he was in Washington trying to run Gruden's adult offense. Maybe there is a CFL team that could use a pop warner league level QB like Griffin.

lol. Yeah I'm sure they're just waiting on the right moment to suit him up.

I don't see anybody trading for Griffin at this point even he was willing to renegotiate his contract. The Texans aren't going to trade for RG3 and turn around their season. If they want him, just wait for the end of the season and try to sign him when he gets released.

One could only hope. And it's certainly intriguing with the situation going on in Houston. And Dallas, too.

Just seems like complete fantasy to me. Like Jets fans believing we might trade for Geno Smith or something.
Not trying to pile on RG3 here. I know we all have fond memories of 2012, but I think outsiders looking at him objectively have to see a guy who has been injured and benched repeatedly and couldn't beat out Kirk Cousins for the starting job. I'm sure someone will bring him in and kick the tires on him if he becomes a free agent at some point. Hard to imagine anyone jumping the massive hurdles it would require to actually trade for him now.

Well Dallas made a move...it wasn't for RG. Sorry I just don't see a market for a QB who dresses in street clothes on Sunday's.

Yeah, if Matt Cassel is more attractive than RGIII at this point then I don't see any movement --- especially considering the fact we are 7 games into the season.

Re: Opportunity to trade RGIII
But with Tom Savage (3rd string QB for the Texans) on IR, and Mallett being pretty much all but done, it isn't that much of a stretch that the team would reach out to Griffin.

They're 2-5. If they need a QB that badly to finish out the season, reach out to Rex Grossman.

But they are only 1 game out of 1st place. Andrew Luck is keeping the Texans in the division.

Crazy! How about a fifth rounder for Colt McCoy then?

I’m guessing ownership isn’t about to let the current regime make a trade like this…with Obrien’s job not on solid ground down there.

That too. O'Brien might be selling them on crapping out the rest of the season and reuniting him with Hackenberg next year.

Well, Foster is done for the year, for what it's worth.
Re: Opportunity to trade RGIII
Why RG3 is on the roster is because Snyder is probably considering the departure of Gruden and Cousins. Yesterday's victory against last years last place team means little. Largest comeback? Why were we down to last years Last place team that much to begin with? Ineptitude.

And why did we get blown out by last years last place team last year? Ineptitude from the starting quarterback for that game.

Yes, Griffin coming off an injury and he was struggling with a new system had a bad game. Why is it different? Because he led us to the post season in 2012. He got injured and has had some trouble getting back especially with a stupid coach who gave up on him by the third preseason game.
We have an in over his head Coach who is making powerplays that will cost him his job. Remember...he benched Kirk and put in McCoy and was so high on Colt. The guy is all over the place.

Is Snyder the one who's going to make that decision? More importantly do you really want Snyder to be the one making those decisions?? Isn’t that what got us where we are??

No, Snyder is not going to be the one making personnel decisions. Scot McCloughan is. He wouldn't have taken the job otherwise.
