SJ, it's time to put away your Cousins vodoo doll and join your Hognet brethren in the Kirk looks decent and might get good with some experience and encouragement chorus.

I do think Kirk looks OK - I just don't think that Kirk can be compared to Brett Favre as B&GF has posted
Captain Kirk is OK but he's not even close to being a HOF type QB

there are just too many here that think that Captain Kirk is a good NFL QB - he is NOT, he's just OK and he's the best option we have is all

I'm just interested - what do we do if Captain Kirk keeps doing what he's always done ...
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

You keep playing him all season. End of discussion. There is no better option on the bench. Barring a meltdown over the course of 2-3 games, you keep playing Kirk. It's simple.

Agreed. But I wouldn't even take him out if there's a meltdown, because your options on the bench aren't real options either. What's the point of playing Colt or RG3 when you know neither will play for the Skins next year?

It's all Cousins evaluation time for this year. Let's give him the year to show us what he can do.

And then find a replacement. ;)

I still think they'll attempt to resign Cousins, if he continues to show improvement. Probably to be the placeholder for the next QB in the draft.

I'm not so sure about that ... I do think that Captain Kirk is playing the position well enough to keep his job ... for now

I think that Captain Kirk is a very good back up QB and of the 3 QBs on the roster he's the best option we have, by far ... at this time :D

I absolutely do not think that we lost the 2 games we could have won because of bad play or not good enough play from Captain Kirk
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance

I think you sort of answered your own question..... at least "for now", which is all we have to go on --- unless you can predict the future (and if you can, please let me know because I'd love to play powerball next week :D ).

But in reality, we don't have any other option on the roster to take Kirk's spot. If Kirk continues playing the way he has over the past 5 games, we'll have to hope a better option comes our way via FA or the draft. That being said, I think we will see something different out of Kirk moving forward -- whether better or worse.
RIP Sean Taylor. You will be missed.

Agree with this. We know what we have with McCoy and RGIII. Part of me still wants to see RGIII, but if I were the GM, I won't do it considering his contract option.

And I don't see Kirk having a 3 game meltdown span. He had one against NYG and came back strong. I think he has grown in that way. Now he needs to improve on the other dozen or so things that are still lacking.
RIP Sean Taylor. You will be missed.

I'm hoping that we see Captain Kirk learn from his mistakes just like the coaches need to learn from what they've seen as well

I'm looking for a good showing against the Jets this week - be nice to go into the bye at 4-3 :D

Yeah I think Re-sign or franchise tag. And I write that assuming Cousins continues to play at about the level he's played at these first five games which I would describe as "serviceable". Obviously if he completely falls apart over the next 11 games, its a different story.

Not sure about drafting a QB in the next draft in that scenario. I could see the team looking to add to the defense more next year. Elite pass rusher, safety/DB, inside LB. Probably need to be looking at a WR too given all the money wrapped up in DJax and Garcon.

I'm glad the season has been better than expected so far, but can't lose sight of the fact that the team is rebuilding.

$18.51 Million or thereabouts.

Yeah its a good question, and I'm not 100% sure about the answer. I included franchise tag because you have to consider the situation the team is going to be in. Cousins is an unrestricted free agent at the end of this season.

My guess is that if the team wants him back next year they would have to at least maintain the threat of the franchise tag? Again, just assuming he continues to play at about the level he's shown this season, I would think there would be a market for him. I can name some teams that could use a guy like Cousins: Houston, Cleveland, Jets, Kansas City, San Francisco, maybe Buffalo or Chicago?

To your question though, I don't know if the team would actually do it or not. They were prepared to pay Griffin $16m next year, so I guess $18.5 is at least in the ball park for a starting QB? Maybe depends on what the alternative options are? Me personally, if the team thinks they'll be improved overall in 2016, yeah I'd probably pay the tag $$.

If Captain Kirk continues to play at this level or above, the franchise would have to seriously consider doing whatever it takes to keep him

let's let the season play out some first ...

He'd have to play really well IMO to warrant the franchise tag (like playoffs well)...Can you imagine the RG crowd if we pay Cousins 18 mil next year

hah. Yeah I really have no idea. It could be interesting to see how that all plays out. I hope Cousins plays well enough over the rest of the season to make it an issue!

Right. You're paying him top 5 money at that point.

That's elite money. He's got awhile to go before he even sniffs "good".

Let's hope Cousins plays his way into a big contract because it would be so much better if Scot could invest the high draft picks in muscle rather than a QB lottery. I am encouraged.

I can see Cousins playing here for the next 15years, easily. He's smart, tough, lets others make the plays, not injury prone, takes few sacks - once he gets the experience he will be hard to beat. Remember, he is playing against a brand new team every week, he has to figure them out all over again. When he starts to replay those teams we'll see a different Cousins.

Interesting point. I could see a long term future for him here to with Scot adding more power and strength over the next few year and Kirk continuing to refine and improve to top 10 level play.

No way do you franchise him. And just because they picked up Bob's option doesn't mean they were prepared to pay him, just that they were hedging their bets. If they want to keep Kirk, sign him to an extension before he hits the market, you don't overpay him the average of the top five QB salaries.

Do you always take partial quotes out of context or is this a one time occurrence?

I agree with your overall assessment although I think the team will have to keep a head coach longer than a few seasons before it keeps a quarterback longer than a few seasons. I'm not sure I see Gruden here long enough to guarantee Kirk being on the roster that long. New coaches like to pick their own quarterbacks. I think Kirk would have to show a lot between now and season's end to even guarantee his position as next year's starter. I also think he's perfectly capable of doing so.
