Re: Cousins Showing Progress Griffin Didn't Make
SJ,
You'd rather play the guy who doesn't understand the concepts of the offense and doesn't read defenses because you are emotionally invested in the "upside" you've imagine he has than the guy wo does understand the offense, reads defenses but after 14 starts isn't able to carry the team. So when a receiver falls down and the ball he was suppose to intersect is caught by a defender who didn't fail down you blame the QB rather than the receiver or bad luck. The coach said the receiver fell down but don't let interfer with your Cousin bashing. Just enjoy the outcome today.

Are you clueless enough to think TA watched the Skins game today? Your distain for Cousins makes you ridiculous at times.

THANK YOU so much for giving me the opportunity to correct you yet again ... I love it
Aikman was broadcasting another game for Fox and his comments came after learning that Cousins had thrown an interception - I hope you can find a tape of it - let me paraphrase it for you "Cousins throws another interception - this seems to be a problem for him that he cannot correct"
up yours OS
we all know that Cousins is clearly the best QB for the Redskins at this time BUT he is also the best QB the Redskins have at turning the ball over
Captain Kirk - the turnover machine ... GO KIRK GO

Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

Gruden is an idiot because he is fat. He is so fat it makes me sick to watch his fat ass walk on the sidelines. Oh...btw...he sucks as a coach. He is outclassed on every level by everyone.
Im tired of Gruden's games. He picked his QB. He did not give RG3 a chance. Plays media games. Plays concussion games. His treatment of RG3 embarrasses the organization and his clear double standard is a joke. And he needs to be held accountable for his record.
DS hates this guy and I can't blame him. Gruden will be fired at the end of the season and it cannot come too soon. Hopefully, DS fires this guy in season. Philbin already bit it so DS has cover.

Jock, it's hard to read you sometimes. You don't like Danny meddling but ur ok with him firing Jay at end of season? I may be wrong.
And for the fellow that says Jay is fat? Are you mistaking him for this guy?

Over on a Nats baseball site there is a continuing thread called "small victories". Meant for sarcasm, roll of the eyes: "well, Player X only struck out three times today."
Cousins leading a drive for the last-second FG: great!
Cousins throwing an INT? Not so much.
Judging from the stats, the Redskins could not run the ball on the Falcons. Not enough first downs and lousy time-of-possession. So...the team is not a powerhouse, but improved over last year. If you can't run the ball, even Sonny will throw interceptions. I learned that from Vince Lombardi, long ago.

SkinsJock. Haven't you learned that OldSchool posts about the quarterback is a waste of ENERGY!? He has a man crush when it comes to Kirk and hates Robert entirely too much. Although, I have seen him admit Kirk turns it over too much and has things to work on, but he always tries to back him up. He is happy that Kirk gets his what 3rd try to prove himself? Remember that post start Kirk and make the playoffs? Only reason McCoy isn't play is because Snyder is letting Gruden make 100% decisions and Gruden has to protect Kirk like a son.
I wouldn't mind seeing Colt on the field this season and someone new next season.

Re: Cousins Showing Progress Griffin Didn't Make
After seeing Mathew Stafford get benched today, I wonder how long Gruden rides with Kirk. At this rate he isn't only not winning us games, he's losing them. Games we've won were when the run game was smashing and he only had to be mediocre, and not turn the ball over (Lolz). If u stop the run and dare him to beat you, he won't.
The Griffin vs Grossman debate is tired.. but you gotta wonder, RGiii or Colt can not be any worse. Any better?
I dunno.. as much as I want to win, it pains me even more to see Kirk, who is supposedly the most knowledgeable qb and best at "reading the D", constantly miss wide open targets and make HORRIBLY inaccurate throws.
The ints happen I get that.. tips bobbles and what not. But more then half hit the db (or worse lb) square in the chest.
Colt turns it over too, but seems more accurate... Not a strong arm either. Rob will get killed taking sacks holding it to long but is more accurate (more often, but not super accurate) and has a cannon for the deep ball.
Tough week for coach, this subpar qb play has GOT to be frustrating

Re: Cousins Showing Progress Griffin Didn't Make
Wow. I knew the Kirk hatred was going to be on, but didn't think it'd be full force.
NOBODY predicted us to win this game. In fact, most Skins fans thought we were going to be blown out. But we actually competed. Which was a positive. We're still a game out, and the season is still long.
And sadly, if Griffin were in that game (or even McCoy), the blame would have been placed on the receivers, the o-line, the coaching staff, etc. But because it was Kirk, I guess he made Grant fall down on that last play.

Re: Cousins Showing Progress Griffin Didn't Make
It didnt matter where Cousins, or any other QB on this staff, threw that final pass in yesterday's game. If Grant slips and falls , the result would have been the same. It had Jack to do with inaccuracy. Just bad luck.
Kirk had some passes yesterday that were poorly thrown, so did Matt Ryan. He had 2 picked as well , by a bunch of second and third string DB's. I guess he isnt the best QB for his team either.

I'm mostly over my disappointment from yesterday...
None of us know whether that route was a quick out (in which case the throw was dead on perfect), or a hook (in which case the throw was about 5 feet to the right, and was terrible). Flip a coin. Obviously, this cannot be resolved by us... so, in light of his remarkable end of game performance over the last 2 weeks, Kirk wins benefit of the doubt, in my mind.
2 weeks running, Kirk has led last ditch drives at the end of the 4th quarter, with an excellent outcome. In both, he was cool, precise, disciplined, accurate. Unfortunately, the result of the effort yesterday was a tie, which only gave us the opportunity in OT.
The loss, however, still sits squarely on the shoulders of the offense. Repeated failures of the Center and RG in the run game, and failure to establish a rhythm. Coaching insistence on inside runs as the "bread winner" (obviously, we were going to starve). Repeated inaccuracies and botched catches in the pass game. Garcon and Cousins clearly were operating from different time zones, yesterday. Crowder was a bright spot, but his routes are sloppy as hell... he needs some intensive work with an expert in separating from the defender. Hmmmmm... who on our team is an expert in that???
Our interior R Oline was so bad, it might make no difference, but a bruising RB like Alf has to work enough to get a rhythm, as well. Swapping at every new set of downs is just nuts, and will likely not benefit either of our bangers. Just like a quarterback, running backs have variations in cadence. Just like a quarterback, these changes will mess up timing with the O-line. Come on, coach... give them a break. They have to work, in order for it to work. How hard is that to understand?
That said... it was awful nice to watch two games in a row where my team did not roll over when things looked desperate. They believed they could win... one time, they were right... and the other, they damned near were. This is progress. The attitude has changed. The teams that play the Redskins are at least going to know that they had to work their tails off IF they win... They will not mark Redskins week as a second bye week.

If Kirk doesn't lead the team to that field goal with 24 seconds left we aren't even having this discussion about the interception.

Our team is relevant this season. Shame on you for this kind of nonsense.

What we all DO know is that Ryan Grant slipped and fell before the ball got to him.

People are nuts, CT. The team played a good, not perfect game against an undefeated team. Took it to overtime and were in position to win the game. And yet, all we want to do on Mondays is get back into Grffin or Cousins. I'm just disgusted by the fan base at this point. Can we not try to enjoy that our team doesn't suck this year???
I agree with your comments about the offense though. Very frustrating that we could not get the running game going for the second game in a row. I see two issues there. 1) Teams obviously know that we want to and can run the ball and they're doing everything possible to take that away. 2) I agree with 100% with Countertrey that Gruden needs to go less of a committee approach with the RBs. Morris and Jones are both good, but he's gotta give one of them the opportunity to get into the game.

Re: Cousins Showing Progress Griffin Didn't Make
Yeah the Kirk haters have crawled out of their holes and are ready to attack!!!!!!
Grant fell under heavy pressure and Gacon handed the ball off for Kirk's 2 INTs. That's the way it goes sometimes. Kirk also lead a drive with 24 seconds left to get us into OT. If either McCoy or RGIII were QBing I don't think we would have been in the position to play in OT, honestly --- although I would have much preferred RGIII in on the INT OT play because he would have just taken the sack!!!
That being said, our overall scoring is a bit concerning. We are averaging a shade under 20 ppg and haven't been able to establish our running game since week 3. People on here have been talking about how great our running game is, but in reality it is NOT good ----- at all. We averaged 2.1 ypc against ATL and something similar against PHI had it not been for Thompson's 40 yard run (on an unexpected run play) on 3rd and long. And teams aren't stacking the box consistently either. I am beginning to think we DO have an OL issue........
Kirk also has not been able to adequately show he can hit WRs in stride on intermediate crossing routes. This is now an ongoing issue. Arm strength is fine. The deep ball on the PI play was on target. I didn't see him missing that many open WRs yesterday based on his primary options and play-initiated progressions. Accuracy is my main concern with Kirk. He needs to learn to hit receivers on 10+ yard passing routes in stride and not behind them. I am of the opinion that he is a 100% game manager type QB, but I'll give him a couple more games....
Honestly, I thought the Keenan Robinson missed tackle would have been a bigger discussion piece..... well, not really

Flip a coin. Obviously, this cannot be resolved by us... so, in light of his remarkable end of game performance over the last 2 weeks, Kirk wins benefit of the doubt, in my mind.
What we all DO know is that Ryan Grant slipped and fell before the ball got to him.
You are absolutely correct... which, of course, moots either scenario, as the result is a pick 6, regardless. I should have noted that in my comment...

Re: Cousins Showing Progress Griffin Didn't Make
Cousins says Grant was supposed to run a hitch, meaning he was supposed to come back to the ball, but he fell down. Cousins still taking the blame for the play (interception) shows his maturity level.

I'm not a hater, but I just don't think he's good enough. And to be clear, he's the best we have right now, but if he continues playing like this, we cannot walk into next year with him as our QB.
The dude has:
multiple turnovers in three of his five starts this year and six of his last 10 starts going back to last year.
Maybe he's just unlucky. Or maybe his ball placement isn't great (the pass to Garcon was behind him...but Garcon did essentially hand the ball over to Atlanta).
But that's not an aberration. That's a solid trend.
I am beginning to think we DO have an OL issue........![]()
We score FGs not TDs, and that is crushing to this team. And center is most definitely a liability rihgt now. What's amazing is that when Lauvao went down, so did the running game. Who'd have thought he was that critical to this line?
Kirk also has not been able to adequately show he can hit WRs in stride on intermediate crossing routes. This is now an ongoing issue. Arm strength is fine. The deep ball on the PI play was on target. I didn't see him missing that many open WRs yesterday based on his primary options and play-initiated progressions. Accuracy is my main concern with Kirk. He needs to learn to hit receivers on 10+ yard passing routes in stride and not behind them. I am of the opinion that he is a 100% game manager type QB, but I'll give him a couple more games....
Agreed except as noted above, game managers can't turn the ball over.
Honestly, I thought the Keenan Robinson missed tackle would have been a bigger discussion piece..... well, not really
In the end, I can't really pin any blame on the defense here. When the defense holds Atlanta to 19, and holds down Julio Jones (for the most part), they did their job. The offense though...sigh.

Fair point, man.
Offense has to score more points. I think in the first quarter they had the ball for like 11 minutes to Atlanta's 4. That's great, but we need to be up more than 7 points after that.
And regardless of who was at fault on the final INT, in all honesty, I don't think Cousins was sharp or consistent enough yesterday. He needs to be better.
Btw anybody watching that game yesterday think how nice it would be to have DJax out there? That's killing me personally.
