Redskins Beat Eagles - Post Game Thread
I figured I'd start things off by mentioning we possessed the ball for over 40 minutes.
I'd like to see Kerrigan stop whiffing when unblocked and bearing down on a statue.
I like our place kicker.
We have some resilience.

Wow. What a hell of a game. Nail biter for sure. I think I'm still drunk right now.

Well as much as I like that stat, I temper my excitement when you consider that Philly in the third worst team in number of plays run on offense @40 per. As a HS coach I always cringe when I hear my HC say they want to run the “hurry up” offense. It has become such a fad and I always ask why they want to run it? Of course the answer is always to score more points. Well we are seeing first hand why it’s not such a great game plan if you can’t get first down. Philly’s defense has been on the field way to much this year and it’s hurting them. If Kelly can swallow his pride and realize and use the talent he has they may improve…he lost a game yesterday he had no business losing…kudo to the Skins for taking advantage of it!!!

Did not need to be a nail biter... Idiotic penalties kept it close. It didn't help that refs kept making up personal foul penalties on poor Trenton Robinson, to extend Philly drives... WTH was with that?
Bottom line... This game was not close... But Redskins attempts to self destruct kept Pilly in range.

Yea that call on Trenton was bad…then I’m watching Minn/Den and Minn safety launches himself head first into the head of Thomas….crickets??

Have not re-watched the second PF call yet but he had the same bewildered look he had after the first one - which may have been the worst PF call in history. How dare he allow the receiver to spear him in the chest !!
Clearly not enough points scored while we were dominating.

you win some and you lose some - I'm just going to enjoy the fact that we lead the NFC East after 25% of the season
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

Re: Redskins Beat Eagles - Post Game Thread
I hate saying this but it is pretty obvious to me that the officials have a vendetta against the danny and the team name. Some of the penalties were just blatantly ridiculous! The liberal homerism continues. Yes they continue to shoot themselves in the foot and I blame coaching for that but there was also discrimination involved yesterday as well.
I have no idea why the defense came out playing prevent the first couple of series letting them tie it up...absurd! I am wondering if that was Gruden that made that call or Barry. Curious but glad they returned to the rush.
At least they were resilient to get the win!

So while the game yesterday was great, listening to local Philly sports radio today is epic. That bipolar fanbase is all fire and anger right now.

Yeah that was a bummer. Cost us a TD too. Fair to say Kerrigan is clearly not 100% healthy, do you agree?
I think its interesting to see as the season plays out how valuable certain wins/losses were. The Dolphins are a hot mess right now. That's a game we should be pissed about losing. On the other hand, the Rams defense put a rock solid Cardinals team away yesterday. The Eagles? Not 100% sure yet, but I have a feeling they are just a bad team this team year. A team we should beat and shouldn't have let it be so close.
Tandler pointed this out this morning. Loved this:
Cousins threw 46 passes without an interception. Since 1989, only two Redskins QBs have thrown 46 or more passes in a game without throwing a pick. The Redskins lost the those games with Colt McCoy (vs. Colts last year, 47 attempts) and Mark Brunell (vs. Broncos 2005, 53 attempts).

Was wondering the same thing…I just think he’s pressing a little. The second one was all technique, contain rushers are taught to attack the QB’s back shoulder so they can’t do exactly what Bradford did yesterday…simple mistake that Ryan will fix.

Re: Redskins Beat Eagles - Post Game Thread
Many have said the obvious on the refs, the whifs by Kerrigan, and the points about the awful Eagles. However, what I will say is that this team is showing consistency week after week in its approach and execution - good and bad alike.
Here's the good:
1. Establish the running game, and don't give up on it (we only abandoned it vs. Giants - and losing Lavau + down by 9 early were probably big reasons for that)
2. Pressure from the D-line. It has made our banged up secondary look respectable.
3. QB game management - good check downs, passing is dinking and dunking to allow for 3-and-short situations (Tied for 3rd in NFL at 47% conversion rate)
4. Clock management - the run game + short passing game = time off the clock. The fewer drives our defense has to be on the field, the greater the chance of victory. (1st in the NFL at TOP)
5. Kicking game - wow what a difference to have a good place kicker that can boot the kickoffs out of the end zone + excellent punter (minus the Dolphins punt)
Here's the bad:
1. The big play. We are victims of 2-3 big plays almost every week that take 30-40 minutes worth of domination and bring us back to scratch.
2. The big play. Although we had a couple of nice big runs this season, but on the whole there has been a real lack of big plays from this team.
3. Penalties. This should be point 1a. The team is really making it hard on itself. A lot of bad calls out there, esp. the BS PFs vs. Eagles. It does feel like a conspiracy.
4. Turnovers. This should be point 1b. (-4 for the year, good enough for 27th in NFL)
As long as this team starts strong, there is a very high chance for success. Atlanta will be a huge test at how far this team has come. Atlanta is +6 in TO Margin. That is a key stat. We need to be even or + on TO Margin next week to have a shot at a win. I heard that Jordan Reed sustained a concussion. Not having him on the field next week would be very difficult to overcome as he is the Redskins best passing threat IMO with D Jackson still out.
I am impressed with Jay Gruden this year. Smart decisions, sticking to his guns, making tough calls, getting the team to buy into an identity that has been a proven winner over the course of NFL history. It may not be as flashy or sexy as the high flying offenses of the world, but the grind it out style the Redskins have started developing will garner a ton of respect if they can keep it up. No one wants to get run over all day long. This is the style and attitude this team needs to get over the hump of being in Loserville, USA.

Kicking field goals instead of scoring TD's will make games unnecessarily close all the time.
Secondary still gives up too many game-changing plays.

Thank you for this great post you make a number of good points.
I think the keys to game:
1. Kirk making a lot of third and second and long throws. His final drive was awesome but the Eagles stifled our running game through most of the game but Kirk keep us moving by picking up 3 downs.
2. The pass rush in the first half and late got to their QB and stopped their offense.

Just some thoughts:
88 is stepping it up since 11 is out injured. Garcon did not complain or gripe when he wasn't featured as WR last year. He is a good soldier and simply does his job.
Crowder is the real deal. Put him in more and more. Ross is also stepping up.
Murphy must have read our thread about him. He made crucial sacks when the game was on the line.
Paea is not even spoken of? What up with our strong man, workout warrior? No impact on games............

we can beat the Falcons - sure we need a little luck but I think this game is not as lopsided as the betting line indicates
