I Think Sally Is Right For Once

Post by OldSchool »

I usually don't find Sally Jenkins columns very informative but she makes a sound argument for Gruden rolling with Cousins because even with his interceptions he is the best on the roster. Check the numbers out and see if you agree.

I agree. I've been saying the same things for three weeks.

I think she's using my opinion to back up her arguments. I made them first.

Would you have said the same thing if she was calling for Griffin to start?

I think that at this time Cousins is the best option at QB and it's not even close ... I just don't think that Griffin's had enough time to be the better option but I do expect that he will play QB this season - somebody on this staff thinks he can play, that's why he's here
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

If by staff, you mean Bruce Allen, then ok.

yes - I don't think any of the coaches, apart from Gruden, would have been involved with the decision to keep Griffin

I'm not even sure Bruce Allen is on board with RGIII at this point. But the HNIC (Head Napoleon In Charge) is undoubtedly still in the RGIII camp. His ego won't allow him to admit drafting RGIII, particularly at the price they paid, was a colossal mistake, an epic failure of biblical proportions, a Greek tragedy, a complete financial suicide move, and likely set the franchise back a decade.

The first part of your sentence is correct, but there was no financial suicide. RGIII has made the Danny tons of money. Much more than he'll ever take as salary, so he has been nothing but a boon in that sense. And all of the football cost has been paid already. At most, the deal only set us back 5 years. But whatever, don't let me stand in the way of a good rant.

No one stands in the way of my rants! What I meant by "financial suicide" is that it's a lot harder to sell a new stadium to a fanbase when the team perpetually stinks. I'm not sure we know yet exactly how far back the RGIII trade set us because not only is RGIII not a viable option but we also don't have the players we would have had with the traded picks. Has anyone actually gone through and looked at who we might have drafted with those picks?

2012 (No.6 overall) (No.39 overall), 2013 (No.22 overall), 2014 (No.2 overall)

2014: Sammy Watkins, Khalil Mack, Greg Robinson, Jake Matthews
2013: Sharrif Floyd, Matt Elam, Alec Ogletree
2012: Morris Claiborne, Luke Kuechly, Bruce Irvin,
2nd Rd: Janoris Jenkins, Cordy Glenn, Alshon Jeffery

Those are just a few of the players we could have had if we had simply kept the draft picks. You say five, I say ten. The truth probably lies somewhere in the middle.

are you implying that the same people (or person) that decided to trade away the picks would have drafted players that would have helped here

as useless as he is, at least RG3 is still on the roster, the players we would have drafted would not be here - guaranteed

it's not brain surgery - the Redskins would be making a big mistake if they switched QBs at this time - PLUS we don't really have a viable option to go to - Cousins should keep playing QB, that's even obvious to Sally Jenkins

Sally Jenkins is not a female, girl or woman - Sally Jenkins is an 'it' who does not have a clue about the NFL
