"Oral History" of Joey T's broken leg

Post by welch »

From "The Washingtonian", a long article about the play, the injury, Joe, all that we saw and much we didn't see many years and just a moment ago.

What I remember most about that play was Lawrence Taylor and Jim Burt screaming and motioning to the Redskins bench before any of the Redskins own players even knew what was going on.
“He was at that time the smartest player in the league. We did everything we could to try to eliminate him from the play. We knew if we didn’t neutralize him, then we had less of a chance of winning.” - John Hannah on Chris Hanburger

Hey brother, you remember the TV people trying to blur out JT on the field laying there? It was obviously too late as we saw it happen in real time.

I will NEVER forget that day, I felt so terrible for the man.

I saw it real time, and would not watch the replays. Once was enough.

They didn't blur it out 'until the next day. That night they showed it about a thousand times.

Easily the most watched injury on MNF and possibly in NFL history. Still painful to watch.
