The Fins held onto their INT's. We didn't.

Their ST's made a play. Ours didn't.

Our Offense showed some good things but still have work to do.

Our Defense is stout against the run, but weak against the pass.

Trent Murphy doesn't contribute much. He'll be bumped from the starting line-up by week three.

This game showed one thing, we won't be the first pick in the draft.

Same team, different season. I hope I'm not saying this in 17 weeks.

Cousins.... Is not Rex Grossmans reincarnation?

False.

It's like the exact same series of events, almost deja vue, with a glimmer of hope at RB still

I watched the baseball game. Nats won, 5 - 0, as Max Scherzer pitched like he did in June. How did the Redskins look? I checked at half-time, and they had the numbers all over Miami...yards, first downs, time of possession. Final did not look good.

- Cousins had 2 INT's? Were they tipped or just mistakes?

- Miami had almost evened up the total yards etc. Redskin pass defense weak? (I read that higher in the thread)

One was a great play by the corner, and didn't matter anyways (3rd and long, threw a deep INT near the Dolphins end zone, so probably a better result than a punt). The first one, however, was awful. Cousins telegraphed the throw (an out) and Grimes jumped it.

The team is so freaking undisciplined. Lots of sloppy, stupid penalties. Multiple offensive holding penalties, two offensive pass interference penalties (both by Jordan Reed!), etc.

Then at the end of the game when the Dolphins were trying to run the clock out, the Skins defense was arm tackling. 3rd and 8, Lamar Miller goes for 9, breaking 2 tackles, etc. Just sloppy.

Ugh.

Sounds like one genuine and bad INT. Lousy defense. Two offensive pass interference penalties: ugly and dumb.

Well, we learned several things today.

1) Cousins still throws interception
2) Roberts still drops passes
3) The defense still gives up the big plays
4) Special teams still is very bad
5) The defense is still bad
6) The offense is still bad
7) The team still implodes in the 3rd and 4th quarters
8 ) Still to many penalties (Unbelievable to be inside the 15 and then at the 50 3 plays later due to penalties.)
9) Redskins will probable have the 1st pick in the draft
10) Gruden is probably gone

Did I miss anything?

Dunno about the first INT, the QB was in trouble and the receiver is supposed to come back to him, not stand there like a post and let a ProBowler pick it off, Cousins telegraphed his intentions to be sure but the receiver is supposed to help out.

No one is saying Cousins sucks... Or that ints don't happen.

Having a 2:1 int to td ratio, however, DOES suck.

His touch on the deep ball is mediocre, and the first INT was just turrable. He did ok vs a stout D tho, some of the playcalls were poor, and he didn't capitalize on the opportunities the D gave him.

Hopefully he improves every week, or we already know the "McCoy" chants will be ringing loud in the stands- granted the stadium even has skins fans in attendance

I am encouraged by what I saw today, very encouraged. We ran 37 times for 161 yards. SM said the team would play big boy football and running it 37 times and limiting the opponents to half that number of rushing attempts and only 10 points is definitely big boy football. The Skins did what SM said they would do going forward. He changed the FA and drafting strategy from flash to substance and the team committed to running the ball and succeeded, I am impressed.

The execution of this sound strategy was undermined by drive killing penalties in the second half. If you are going to play old school, conservative, time of possession football you need to be highly disciplined and minimize penalties. The Skins had 11 for 88 yards and killed themselves in the second half.

Special teams did more to lose the game giving up a TD on a punt. The punt fell over 20 yards in front of the coverage, that is just stupid. Kick it out of bounds if you are going to pound it beyond the coverage!

The defense did great against the run but they dropped two potential interceptions! Kirk threw a bad pick early and the defense bailed him out and got a key stop late so the defense played better but they need to collect picks when they are offered up.

I thought Cousins was okay, I agree with Gruden. He picked up 12 first downs, 190 yards and threw a TD against a very good defense. Roberts failed and Garcon needed to do more down the stretch. Kirk facilitated play well in the first half but his teammates penalties buried him in the second half. The second pick late has Garcon. Cousins had what 3-13 with 2 minutes down 7 and out of field goal rand with Garcon 1 on 1 in the end zone and the defender beat Garcon for the ball, Garcon got beat pure and simple. Garcon needed to make a play.

I am disappointed with the loss but the bottom line for me today is positive big picture. The draft, FA and game plans are all in alignment and a cultural change underway and a new identity is being formed. The Skins are going to be a tough run first power football team with a defense! I love it. I think we have much to look forward to I haven't been this happy since Marty because this is the kind of football I believe in and know works. They need to tighten the discipline and improve the execution and play smarter on special teams, all achievable in the short term.

The show stoppers today were penalties and the 2 dropped interceptions by the defense, 1 of which seemed to be defensive TD.

I thought the team showed a lot today - as some of us have already posted, the results are not going to be determined by who plays QB - the team has issues that will take time to address - we're not a complete disaster - there are a lot of things to look forward to here

Alfred is huge and Pete Prisco is a moron ...
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

I agree with most of oldskewls assessment, save the ints...

The second pass was short, and badly off the mark like the longer pass on the down before. Maybe a little antsy, but the longer passes are not his strong suit

We had the lead for 50 minutes of a 60 minute game - we did not look like we were capable of winning the game for the last 10 minutes

Yes.

Let's keep our eyes on the positive direction of certain things. The O-Line played a good game. The right side of the line performed admirably. Two dropped interceptions would have changed the game completely. The Fins scored on the drive that Robinson missed that one, didn't they? Had Culliver hung on for a pick six, well....

Yes, Cousins needs to minimize the INTs. Of course. The Offense does seem to run well with him and that should only get better IF he can show he deserves to stay in the starting line-up.

A couple of more drafts of McCloughan improving the roster and we'll be something.

I think the worst thing Cousins did was let the team get sloppy with those batches of penalties. He'll learn to take control when things get sloppy, like a conductor when musicians get off, and tighten them up.

Actually the second INT didn't bother me at all, because the Phins ended up with pretty bad field position out of it. If it had been incomplete, the Skins would have punted and...well...that probably wouldn't have ended up so well. Best case, the Phins start at the same yard line as the INT was at. Worse case, we see Landry again...

It is going to be a LOOOOOOOONG losing season.

what we suspected might be weaknesses, in fact, WERE.

Cousins picked up, or rather, was picked up, exactly where he left last season. There seems to be little or no improvement at all.

Secondary ... I rather not say. Perhaps only that Amerson's mind is elsewhere, not focused on the field. He is a shadow of the 1st year player we drafted.

I did not think that Special Teams could play worse than last year. There was nowhere to go but up, right?

11 penalties???? We were lucky not to have a few other holding calls made against us.

Some may feel that even on a loss it was enough to field a "competitive" team. That the Skins were indeed today. However, it will be difficult to remain in control of the locker room as losses mount. This is Gruden's last year but not without a bit of RGIII drama before the lights go out this season.

Large number of Phins fans in the stadium today and the number of opponents's fans will grow after every game at home from this day on. Many Skins fans will stop watching after a 0-4 start.

Yep, some good pieces are in place but there is no light at the end of this tunnel throughout this season. We suspected it but now we know it. I hate every second of this. Time to move on to the routine outside of NFL games this year. A rather short season for me. :puke:
Daniel Snyder has defined incompetence, failure and greed to true Washington Redskins fans for over a decade and a half. Stay away from football operations !!!
