Which is it man? "Find a way to win or get out of here" or "show evidence they are headed in the right direction"?

These are two completely different expectations for the season. You've posted both in the space of two hours.

I think he's just googling "sports cliches" and posting them..... :D

I wish DJax was feeling a little more confident. :)

DeSean Jackson, scorned former Eagle, currently the most exciting and mercurial player on a Washington team that has not otherwise been very exciting lately, will answer the question, just as soon as he can figure out how:

Do you feel like you guys will contend this year?

Long silence. “Uh... how ’bout I say, uh... Let me see what I can answer to that question....”

I'm not sure that anyone's "overly worried about the Dolphins" ... you're missing something .... as usual

while the redskins have made some improvements, we still have some issues with the offensive line and the defense PLUS the special teams group looks horrid - SO - it's not the Dolphins that anyone's worried about, at all - it's the redskins
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

I think you'll be pleasantly surprised by our rushing attack. May find something to like in the defense too.

I hope so. I do like what we saw out of Matt Jones the past few weeks.

I think he's gonna have a big role in the running game. I'm looking for Ross to put up good numbers too in the passing game.

OldSchool wrote:The Skins will need to win at the line of scrimmage in this game and others so they are able to run 30+ times and limit Cousins to 35 passes or less. Cousins can quickly execute Gruden's WCO, we KNOW that, but he is not ready to carry the team Payton Manning style with 40+ passes and win a shoot out as we saw last season. it's only his 10th start and Kirk thinks fast enough so he'll probably pick up 300+ yards and extend drives unlike Robert III and out Griffin but the revamped if the OL cannot get make some holes for the tailbacks Kirk is going to be overwhelmed.

Hopefully, Kirk and Jackson can connect for the deep strikes to loosen things up and we get some decent rush blocking from the OL and the tight ends so the Skins can be balanced and Kirk isn't force to try to carry the team. Obviously, the defense has to hold up their end of things also. We cannot expect Kirk to have to throw for 400 yards while the defense gives up 30+ points.

The Skins are underdogs and deserve to be considering their weak pass defense and questionable rushing attack.

Guess what OldSchool - the Redskins run game is great

the Redskins were leading this game for 50 minutes ... but, at the end of the game, the Dolphins found a way to win ...

be interesting to hear the excuses ... :)

The Fish won eight games last season. They beat the Patriots by 13 and lost to the Broncos by 3. We're nowhere close to that level of competitive.

Anybody still want to argue that "We're nowhere close to that level of competitive" as Miami?

We haven't played New England yet. We'll revisit this discussion on November 8th.

Oh boy! I will say the Dolphins did not 'win' that game and the Redskins played well for the most part but ...

The Dolphins are a better team than that and while we are not a bad team, we have a ways to go to get any respect ...

that punt coverage was horrible ... let's see how things go the next few weeks with 'easier' opponents ...

Fed Ex Field was once again the home field...for the visiting team. By far more aqua than maroon and yellow yesterday. They may as well had a Dolphin painted at mid field.

punt coverage is predicated on hang time... Tress Way has admitted, that was on him...

That may just be him being a leader (he is a team Captain), but the kick had no hang time, ant let Landry get a good, long look at the coverage set up... With a bad result.

That's a straw man, brother. Nobody is arguing that we're anywhere close to New England. There were quite a few of us who wondered why we were being so deferential to Miami.

We were clearly capable of competing with them.

any given Sunday, my friend  actually, we should have won that game but that does not mean that we're a better team than they are ...

The Giants should have beaten the pukes last night - they are not even close to being as good a team as that bunch ...

Did you see what the Bills did to the Colts and the Rams beat the Seahawks for crying out loud

Absolutely man. And really, not arguing that we are better than the Dolphins. My guess is that they're a deeper team. Certainly don't have the QB uncertainty that we do, and nowhere near the level of instability and dysfunction. That comment about "we're nowhere near their level" though just bugged me. In spite of everything going on, I think the Skins roster has been steadily improving.

SkinsJock wrote:The Giants should have beaten the pukes last night - they are not even close to being as good a team as that bunch ...

That was shocking to me. I'm not expecting the Giants to be that good this year because of o-line issues. But Dallas has some issues itself with injuries in the secondary. Definitely more of a game than I expected, but we all know how these NFC East games go.

SkinsJock wrote:Did you see what the Bills did to the Colts and the Rams beat the Seahawks for crying out loud

Honestly wasn't surprised about the Bills. Smart people have been pointing out since January that the Colts' D is suspect and they did nothing to address it. Everyone just assumes Andrew Luck is going to make up for that. Pagano may be in trouble.

Rams are a better team than they've been getting credit for. I think that will be a tougher game than Miami mainly because Fisher is a better coach than Philbin.

this from John Breech of CBS Sports - giving us a rating of C+ and the Dolphins a B ... do these guys actually watch any games .....

After the circus the Redskins went through this offseason, it's hard to nail them too hard here considering they almost pulled off the upset. Maybe next week, the Redskins will give the ball to Alfred Morris a few more times and let Kirk Cousins throw a few less times.

I get what you are saying, but I agree with the grades. If the Redskins could actually catch the INTs thrown to them, or jump on the fumbles, then we might have a different result. With 11 penalties, no possible way to grade them higher than a C. Only the Raiders of Howie Long's era can get away with that kind of play and still win.

The biggest loss wasn't the W/L, but losing the players to injury. As mentioned earlier in this thread, the Redskins 1st string is pretty good. But depth is a major issue and will expose this team for the 5-6 win team that it is. Rams will be a hard team to beat next week.

Re: Spread. Lots of reasons to see why it was a close game. Overestimated both QBs ability to get points on the board though. The Dolphins did not put Tannehill in 3rd and 15, 3rd and 25 to go like the Skins did to Kirk. That with the special teams gaffes led to the final result. Such a shame after the domination in the trenches in the first half by the Skins.

sorry - I'm kind of OK with the grades - I just don't understand that this guy thinks we might have been better off running the ball more than we did - it was not a badly called game offensively, we shot ourselves in the foot with the offensive fouls, not with our play selection

Its just more lazy commentary. We ran a ridiculous amount yesterday and stuck with a good game plan. As SJ points out, we had trouble running the ball after penalties facing long yardage downs.
