........... and P. Smith needs to step up even more now. Sucks! Season over before it started. We never got to see Kerrigan and Galette paired together to see what they could do.

Redskins source confirms to me LB Junior Gallette did in fact tear his achilles, he's out for the season. #RedskinsTalk #damndamndamn

Cursed not because of the name (the team has won 3 superbowls as the Redskins), but because of screwing over Jack Kent Cook. It was his stadium with his name, and when that name left and FedEx got put up, it's been downhill ever since... So cursed? yes; name issue? Stop listening to stupid politicians.

Re: Galette: It pisses me off to see so many people revel in the injury given his domestic abuse charge. I don't condone some players' personal decisions, but that doesn't mean I wish them physically hurt or unable to play again. It's not like having a torn achilles means he's suddenly cured of any off-the-field issues. Society makes me sadder by the day.

well.........just *sh$t* on my day

Redskins OLB Junior Galette will miss the entire season with a torn Achilles'.
The Redskins fears were confirmed. Galette went down toward the end of Wednesday's practice. It's an extremely tough blow. Galette signed a one-year, $745,000 contract in an effort to prove the Redskins right and thank them for taking a chance on him following his release from the Saints. With Galette out, DC Joe Barry will rely on OLBs Trent Murphy and Preston Smith opposite Ryan Kerrigan.

the ACL list just keeps on growing - it's not just the Redskins

https://twitter.com/ACLrecoveryCLUB
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

In a league of 32 teams, there have been about 13 season-ending injuries to projected starters so far this training camp / preseason.

The Redskins have suffered two of them.

Sucks... totally... OTOH... Galette was a total surprise bonus. This causes some damage... but there is still talent. Preston Smith will be rocking it in his stead.

Yeah. I was kidding about the witch doctor and curse over the name. I don't listen to politicians. Does seem like we are getting more hate and bad bumps in the last few years since the rhetoric over the name has picked up. Redskins forever though!!

I've often wondered if some of the bogus calls that go against us are because certain refs have bought into the anti-name propaganda. I know one ref has come forward to say that he requested not to be assigned to our games because of the name. At least he had the integrity to state his bias publicly.

Not to go off on a tangent, but I was just reading about whether or not Kerrigan would be cleared to play on Saturday v. the Ravens. No way would I play him this preseason.

He may need some work in a real game, but I wouldn't let him go for very long. Of course, all it takes is one play or one misstep to cause injury and end a season. Several of the players on the other teams weren't even toughed when they got hurt. I remember Jon Jansen tearing his Achilles on the artificial turf in the HOF game years ago. Same thing. Anyway, Murphy and P. Smith need the reps as they will be the ones that will have to step up and play now that Galette is lost for this season. I'm hoping he will be able to have a successful rehab and the Skins will get him back next year. Hope springs eternal for all Skins fans.

It could have been anyone, but the fact that it happened at our deepest position goes to show that you can never be stacked with enough talent. The concerns that Galette was going to take away reps was overstated IMHO. If it had been Murphy or Smith going down, we'd have all wished we had another good player to step in.

True.

One thing though: we're just assuming OLB is one of our deepest positions. I know Murphy and Smith are second round picks, but it remains to be seen how good they actually are. Galette was a proven guy and a legit stud. Just gotta hope one of the guys behind him can do what he was capable of.

With Galette gone and one of them starting, yeah, our OLB unit isn't so deep. I'm not saying we have one of the best OLB units in the league, just that on our own team there aren't many (if any) units that are deeper. Maybe WR, but frankly I don't think we have an established #3 yet, much less solid starters and backups. Maybe RB, but fewer players are needed for that position to be solid. Aside from that . . . D-line? Eh: more untested players, even if the early signs are encouraging.

To me, Trent Murphy has proven himself as being at least a very good backup, if not someone who can push to start. And Preston Smith has showed me enough too. Before Galette went out, that was going to be the cutoff line.

with or without Galette this franchise is most likely winning 6-8 games as we rebuild the O line and defensive secondary

we also have to find a starting QB if Griffin is done here, which looks likely; I doubt that Cousins will suddenly elevate his game to that level

we're lucky to have a number of good players to build around though
