Redskins To Keep Only 2 QBs?
I've seen this in at least a couple of articles but I find it hard to believe. Given their history why would the Skins think they can get through the year with only 2 QBs. They used 3 last season and need to in my opinion. Griffin got hurt so Cousins was up. Cousins was probably relieved for his own good as well as the team last year. He flashed talent but has some big ones in his game so taking him out and giving him time to regroup over the off season was probably best for him. McCoy started out pretty well and I think it was unfortunate he was relieved the moment Griffin was able, I would have liked to see if McCoy could build some momentum. Griffin gets benched and McCoy got another shot. We needed all 3 last year and I don't think anything has changed.
If Griffin is one of them than 2 definitely isn't enough. Robert has been a pinata since 2012 he took 3 or 4 shots in brief action against Cleveland it is highly unlikely he goes 16 games and he might go down hard again. In the highly unlikely event that Griffin is cut I think Cousins and McCoy could complete the year since neither on of them take a lot hits but I can't imagine Snyder cutting Griffin until late in the year even if he fails badly early.

This sounds like a media story they made up this afternoon to give them something to deny tomorrow afternoon.

let's hope because I would be pissed in the Skins cut either Cousins or McCoy this season and I don't think Snyder is anywhere ready to give up on Griffin.
Re: Redskins To Keep Only 2 QBs?
We need 3 - especially the way refs seemingly allow defenses to crush our QBs in the ear hole and face mask every freaking game including preseason. That may sound (insert insulting adjective) but I see it again and again. I saw it last week. Some dude crushed Griff right in the face with his helmet. It was so violent it was as if he knew he was gonna get away with it.

Keim has hinted at this as well. But you would think they would need to keep 3 on the roster, based off of the way Griffin continues to take unnecessary hits, and McCoy's neck issues.

Crown of the helmet right to the chin. It knocked off RGIII's helmet. I commented on it at the time in the Gameday thread.

I remember. It seemed to really start with Patrick Ramsey and it has never let up.

Re: Redskins To Keep Only 2 QBs?
I wish we were in position to roll with two QBs. Probably Griffin/Cousins. Sign a third QB to the practice squad. I'd bet its 50/50 McCoy would still be out there to call back in off the street if needed.

I'd roll with 2. Nobody is gonna pick up Colt McCoy. Roll with RGIII and Kirk, it's time to see what the two of them can do. It's inevitable that RGIII will miss time.

This. I'm sure there are some guys we'd like to hang on to more than Colt. Maybe another safety or CB. Maybe a bubble guy like Jackson Jeffcoat.
If Griffin can't play a full 16 games at least once in this contract, that's probably as strong a reason as any to move on.

As of right now, I agree with you.
But an injury to Fitzpatrick or say Cassel in the next couple of weeks could change things for QB needy teams like the Jets and the Bills. Granted, I don't think McCoy would be that hard to replace in an emergency type QB signing, but still.
Re: Redskins To Keep Only 2 QBs?
McCoy beat Dallas for us last year the high point of a bad season. I'd rather they keep 3 and if they give Griffin a half dozen games and he just can't make the mental leap and run WCO then cut Robert but it doesn't make sense to cut Cousins or McCoy. It seems to me plan A should be give Robert 5 of 6 games to show us the light bulb has gone on and he is mentally capable of making progress within a WCO. Plan B if Robert fails give Cousins 10 starts this year and another 16 next year to see if he can reduce his interceptions by 30% and close out games stronger. After only 9 starts he's flash enough to create hope he can do with additional coaching and experience and perhaps on the more balanced team SM is building. Cousins shows enough to for me to hope that Cousins might be pretty good after 36 starts like Robert has gotten or he may be another Grossman as his critics claim, I don't know but if Robert fails I'd like to see SM build out the roster with a couple of more drafts before bringing in another QB.

Hello All:
New to this forum. I was gonna make my first post in the "McCoy to take second string snaps against Detroit" thread.
Will there be a change in mindset if McCoy goes out and matches or exceeds what Cousins did last week? I wont lie..I am a McCoy Fan. He is finally for the first time in the second year of the same offense. He is capable of high percentages of completions. With decent protection and a decent run game that can equate to long defense demoralizing drives.

Re: Redskins To Keep Only 2 QBs?
I wouldn't recommend only having 2 with RGIII's injury history (although some on here don't think RGIII is injury prone so perhaps I'm in the minority on this one....). I don't think Scot is dumb enough to do that unless he really thinks we are so bad we need the extra roster spot.
That being said, if Scot really thinks Colt wouldn't get picked up, then he may take that chance. I believe Colt wouldn't be eligible for the practice squad. I'd be curious to see what other options would be out there.

Welcome!
No idea on your question, but it wouldn't surprise me one bit to see McCoy go out there and light it up against the second stringers tonight. Seems like he has limitations, but I think he's at the least a "capable" QB.

Re: Redskins To Keep Only 2 QBs?
I hope they keep 3 - I think the coaches like McCoy but I would not give up on Cousins just yet
Cousins seems to be a better back up - McCoy is starting to show that he can get the job done without being a turnover machine

Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

Re: Redskins To Keep Only 2 QBs?
Cousins moves the offense and scores better the other two but he has a 1:1 TD to INT ratio which is his problem. 1.35 TD's to 1 INT puts a QB in the all time top 50. I think if Cousins started for a couple of season he could reduce his INTs. Asking Cousins with only 9 starts to reduce his INTs by 30% sounds like a reasonable goal to me.
I haven't seen enough of McCoy to form an opinion. It will be good to see him play.

If Griffin and/or Cousins do not pan out and we have to rely on McCoy...what was it that Clubber Lang said about his prediction for his fight against Balboa?

With the latest injury, RGIII might well have worn out his welcome here. Even I'm ready to give up on him.
