A pretty disappointing answer from Griff.

Remember once upon a time when he could say no wrong? Now he can't say anything right.

No I remember him saying some things that were kind of head scratchers during his rookie season, but we were winning and he was playing well, so they didn't get scrutinized as much.

I'm not a Tandler fan but I absolutely agree that the reaction to this is over the top ... get a grip, people

Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

Add responding appropriately to media questions as another skill Griffin has failed to develop. I am more concerned in seeing some evidence that he's developing some skill in running Gruden's WCO. Griffin didn't have enough time to demonstrate improvement last time out I hope he plays more and we see evidence of the improvement in training camp we've been hearing about or conversely we see enough to figure out Snyder and his lackeys have been shoveling manure again. I eager to see where things stand this year.

I was coming to post the this very same link. And since I suspect some who might do good to step back from the guillotine might be disinclined to click the link to this unbiased view (unless of course DS now all of a sudden controls Tandler, too), here's an excerpt or two or 12:

The problem with the “best” comment that is creating an uproar out there is that the full thought of Robert Griffin III doesn’t fit into a tweet.

Griffin's actual quote, [sigh] again:
“I don’t feel like I have to come out here and show anybody anything or why I’m better than this guy or better than that guy. It’s more about going out and affirming that for me, I go out and I play, I know I’m the best quarterback on this team. I feel like I’m the best quarterback in the league and I have to go out and show that,” he said. “Any athlete at any level, if they concede to someone else, they’re not a top competitor, they’re not trying to be the best that they can be. There’s guys in this league that have done way more than me. But I still view myself as the best because that’s what I work toward every single day.”

Back to Tandler:
What’s not to like here? He believes he has to be confident if he is going to excel. If he doesn’t believe he is the best, he doesn’t think he’ll ever get there. Griffin says that he works toward being the best every single day.

God I hope everyone reads this one:

This situation is identical to the firestorm that was created by Griffin’s comments after the Bucs game last year. He spent several minutes taking every bit of blame for a poor performance. Then he was asked about 2012 and he said that they were playing “good team ball” that season. “The Peytons and the Aaron Rodgers, those guys don’t play well if their guys don’t play well. They don’t. We need everybody.”

Nobody who sat through his entire postgame press conference, even some of Griffin’s worst critics, came out thinking that Griffin had thrown his teammates under the bus or had deflected blame for having a poor game . (Read the transcript for yourself.) But the Peyton-Rodgers quote was snipped and tweeted and Griffin came off as a delusional bad guy.

Jesus Christ on a cracker. Rich, please proceed:

There have been other, similar remarks by NFL players this year. But none of them have created quite the firestorm that Griffin’s have.

As for his not being able to answer a question without giving the media ammo to drum up stories (which I don't wholeheartedly disagree with, at this point, there is nothing he can say beyond a Bill Belicheat type answer that wouldn't. That's absurd. Oh, hang on Rich Tandler, did you have something else to add?

Griffin is scheduled to speak to the media this afternoon. It would be hard to blame him is he came out with the same type of press conference he had following the reaction to what he said after the Bucs. Remember that one where Griffin did his best Belichick imitation and said over and over that he was “focused on San Francisco”.

It would be hard to blame him if he did.

Damn right.
I know he got a pretty good zip on the ball. He has a quick release. . . once I seen a coupla' throws, I was just like 'Yeah, he's that dude.'"

I wanted to write that I can't believe the amount of radio time this "issue" has received in the past 24 hours. But that would be a complete lie on my part.

Having read the entire statement, it is not what the sports writers (I use that term flippantly) made it out to be. To bad that there is not a way to hold them accountable for their outright lies in this.

Within a vacuum, you can understand what he's saying. You can understand the full context of his statement. What he fails to realize and/or do is understand where he is in his career. He fails to understand that his words are criticized too harshly and you would think that he'd do a better job of parsing his words.

He's in a no-win situation. His best bet would be to either say nothing to the media or to respond in cliches. Of course then the media would complain that he's being surly or a diva or something.

I don't have any sympathy for him at this point he should know how to handle simple media questions. He should be able to execute a WCO offense also if he's to be the starter but it is long past time for him to learn to politely and confidently respond to obvious question without looking like an ass or making a fool of himself.

C'mon, how tough is it to say something affirmative and innocuous like:

1. "I'm working hard with my teammates and coaches to improve every day. I have very high expectations for myself, I feel like I'm improving as a player and I'm determined to play substantially better in our offense this year."

2. "Obviously evaluating all of us is the coaches job, my job is to improve myself and prepare to play. I'm encouraged with my progress thus far but every day I need to work on getting better. I am eager to play again this week."

The Redskins media people probably feed him sample harmless quotes to use, he needs to use them.

It's nice when we have to parse words to find something WRONG with a statement. Needing to parse words to make this statement of Griff's sound RIGHT sucks. Some really bad word choices here. All he had to do was add something like "strive."

I think the only ones making fools of themselves are people who have nothing better to do than to over parse a pretty innocuous statement and blow things way out of proportion. This is phony outrage about nada.

All he had to say is... "im working very hard every day to be the best QB I can be for my team.".

That's it! But he can't do that, it's not him. He brings this BS on himself.

Naw... Not anymore. Within a vacuum, yes. But looking at the totality of his words and actions thus far, it's not innocent. There's nothing innocent about the guy, he's highly intelligent. Just like he knew that he was being facetious about "being normal". Normal would be an upgrade for a QB that can't take the proper number of steps in his drop back.

I think it's more of a media driven agenda as opposed to a fan/regular joe one. I think people see this hype, buy into it, become enamored with it, and increase expectations. Then when reality sets in, the fans start to call out said media for overhyping said player, and then the media begins to back pedal and play into the whole "fallen from grace" story line, and then suit their agenda to fit with the fan mentality at that point.

Saying you are the best in the league when you CLEARLY are not isn't some harmless statement --- when it comes from what you hope is your franchise player. In March of 2014, after winning at Doral, Patrick Reed declared he was a "top 5 player" in the golfing world. He got RIPPED for making the comment -- the onslaught lasted thru the summer. He literally couldn't even give press releases. 1.5 years later, he is still remembered as the guy that made the "top 5" statement --- as someone who is ranked 18th in the world. This is VERY similar --- but only worse.

RGIII is either clueless, foolhardy, or --- what I fear the most ---- thinks that saying "I'm the best in the league" is what someone who ACTUALLY thinks he is the best would say and therefore made the statement. If it is the later --- and his inability to recognize how idiotic the statement is makes me lean toward this ---- then he couldn't be more wrong. The best tend to have humility, because they don't need to tell ANYONE how good they are ---- it is evident by their play. Meanwhile, RGIII was statistically the WORST starter in the NFL last year --- so my fear is that the only person he is trying to fool into thinking he is confident or "the best"...... is himself.
RIP Sean Taylor. You will be missed.

I'm thinking a reporter could flat out ask Aaron Rodgers "Are you the best QB in the NFL?" and he would find a way to avoid saying "Yes, I am."

Brady, Manning, Rivers, Brees and the rest of the best in the league guys would all avoid saying they think they are the best. Griffin graduated from Baylor in 3 years he must be smarter than the average guy but he continues to put his foot in his mouth and enable the media to make him look like a narcissist that is full of himself and clueless.

It's year 4 and he should know how many steps to drop on every pass play and how to tactfully and gracefully handle simple interview questions.
