I think Galette is at the top of the depth chart now.

Don't think we would have signed him if that was the case.

Galette hasn't been with the team very long. He is just beginning to get full team work. With Kerrigan and Galette out, Murphy gets the start.

Charges were dropped and I believe any suspension possibilities were dropped with them.
From camp reports it sounds like Murphy returned bigger and stronger as well as much improved over last year. Also sounds like rookie Preston Smith will be battling him for time as they spell both Kerrigan and Galette.

OLB is, literally, the least of our worries. Anyone who sees a problem in Murphy is not paying attention. While there wasn't much magic, I was not disappointed with his play last year... He was, after all, a talented 4-3 DE learning to play 3-4 OLB in live play.
We are STACKED with starter quality depth in this position.

not paying attention .... lol he was lost and a non factor! i understand what you are saying about the transition but kerrigan did the same thing and didn't look lost .... and we should be worried about our pass rush our secondary is a huge concern ....Countertrey wrote:cowboykillerzRGiii wrote:redskinz4ever wrote:suspension is possibility 6 games domestic violence charge

Re: trent murphy ... whats the deal ?
I guess Kerrigan's talent level had no bearing on his play that first year. Murphy was NOT expected to start his rook season. Kerrigan WAS.redskinz4ever wrote:not paying attention .... lol he was lost and a non factor! i understand what you are saying about the transition but kerrigan did the same thing and didn't look lost .... and we should be worried about our pass rush our secondary is a huge concern ....Countertrey wrote:cowboykillerzRGiii wrote:

Re: trent murphy ... whats the deal ?
talent between a first rounder and a second rounder should not be that big of a factor .. all im saying is murphy has alot to prove going into his second year ...

I think he is probably still behind both Kerrigan and Preston Smith.

Re: trent murphy ... whats the deal ?
Kerrigan then Galette is what I'd expect. Then Murphy if only for his experience and knowledge of the D.. I think he has improved, but Preston is definitely building a case for himself

I meant the top to start opposite Kerrigan.

Re: trent murphy ... whats the deal ?
Preston Smith looked like the real thing to me against the Browns. On defense, he seemed like out best player. He'll be a starter soon, maybe in time for our real game.

I think that's highly likely.

Actually, that WASN'T "all you (were) saying", but I guess that happens.
Yes, he has still to "prove" himself... But lost, he was not.
I think Yuchagee has underlined the rest of my point.

I'll be very surprised if Kerrigan & Gallette aren't the starters this season.

Re: trent murphy ... whats the deal ?
Trent kinda is what he is at this point... He's a "high motor" guy. Which is often a nice way of saying, "a guy that tries really hard". That's why Scot drafted Preston AND got Junior. Trent will be a great backup guy, which is all he is.

Actually, they got junior because you don't say "no" when a blue chip player in his prime, who is being paid by another team, shows up on your doorstep and says "sign me now for next to nothing". Their plan... it was also a good one... Was to work Preston up to start. I also think there's more to Murphy than you give credit for.
There is incredible quality among our OLB's right now...

Agreed. I'm glad he got that experience and that we got to see him. Reports from camp were pretty "meh" on him, but apparently when it's game time Smith knows how to turn it on.

I think Gallette is going to be the starter to open the season (though that is based on past performance, and some comments from TC, I need to see him play first) and we're going to have a lot of time and experience to see who between smith and murphy is ready to be the starter next year. With Gallette only being on a 1 year deal if his next contract is too rich given either his performance or the emergence of preston or murphy (or both), then I think Scot has just put this team in the proverbial catbird seat.
I know he got a pretty good zip on the ball. He has a quick release. . . once I seen a coupla' throws, I was just like 'Yeah, he's that dude.'"
