CAPITAL PUNISHMENT --- our new name for the D

Post by tribeofjudah »

I kinda like it. Hogs are past. This is the present and future.

Redskins nose tackle Terrance "Pot Roast" Knighton recently revealed that the team's revamped defensive front has gifted itself with a new nickname.

"The D-line, we call ourselves 'Capital Punishment,' being in Washington, D.C.," Knighton told ESPN, per The Washington Post.

It's not a great sign when you're forced to churn out your own nickname -- instead of one coming organically -- but this happens all the time in the NFL. A better question is whether Washington's defensive front can live up to it.

That nickname has been around for years; long before Knighton was ever on the team.

Never mind that nicknames are earned... This bunch, while having potential, has earned NOTHING yet.

I agree they need to earn that type of nickname.
However I do like the ambition and aspirations of one Knighton.

I don't mind that they have done this. They're trying to help turn around a culture of malaise, a defensive line that hasn't been impressive for at least 10 years. You need traction, and that starts with relationships and a sense of identity as a team, including an atmosphere. It might sound manufactured to us outsiders, but if they are rallying around this like a banner in battle, it could be the start of a new era.

It's true that you have to follow up and play light a nickname-deserving unit for this to mean anything. If they don't perform, no one will remember this a few years from now. (Unless they are truly horrible, but I seriously doubt they will be bad to the point of ridicule.)

Either way, it seems harmless at worst to me.

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!

Though I absolutely love the name "Capital Punishment", they haven't earned any nicknames considering the season hasn't even started.
Nicknames use to be given after a few weeks of playing and people seeing that you earned a nickname.

Now "Pot Roast" is a cool nickname, I just pray he doesn't get "Roasted".

So in conclusion.. shut up Pot Roast.

be nice if ALL of these guys would just STFU and do their damnedest to make things better here ...

however, this is a time where just about everything you say and do is recorded and repeated

these guys can call themselves anything they want - they need to be better on the field before anyone really gives a damn
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

Like many have said just earn it and play well on the field. We really dont care about nicknames do we?

But one point I must make. This nickname was "given" by sportswriters to the SuperBowl winning squad 1991. I also read that the 1983 squad was given the nickname first. But since the 91 team won it all they are remembered as such.

Anyhow just play well is all we really care about. I am actually confident that they will. We have loads of talent.

Seriously. They can call themselves Destiny's Child if it helps motivate them.

I don't know why people are up in arms over what they want to call themselves. If it helps, who cares?

Nicknames are "CUTE". A team that, has not been truly successful in over two decades does not get to do "CUTE". Just play the damned game...

Just curious.. how can that possibly help?

You know those defensive bada**es up Seattle called the Legion of Boom? That name was given to them after they kicked people's butts.

Didn't the secondary have a nickname while Springs and Smoot were playing together? I believe that came during the season, and not before.

The way I see it, Pot Roast has put a lot of pressure on the DL & esp himself to play up to the name. Hopefully it will serve as motivation.

WOW - I don't see it that way at all ...

now that TC is here, I hope we see and hear little to nothing from the players - all we need is for them to put up and shut up

the players need to remember that just about everything they give to the media morons will be twisted and fabricated
