Washington Redskins wide receiver DeSean Jackson has suffered a separated shoulder in practice and his is expected to miss about two weeks of practice.

Yeah not the best news but again, not the worst.

I take it that it's a simple separation and just needs time - this is not a big deal at all
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

Wow, we continue to out do ourselves. Let's see what kind of fun the media has with this one. Looks like 2-3 weeks, but a blocking sled, really.

hah. The unfortunate part of this is that DJax was just bragging the other day that nobody could cover him.

DeAngelo Hall - DB - Redskins
Redskins CB DeAngelo Hall will miss "at least a week" with a groin injury.
It further thins the Redskins' camp depth, as starter Bashaud Breeland will miss the entire preseason with an MCL injury. Hall's injury isn't serious, but the Redskins aren't going to rush a player coming off two Achilles' surgeries. Once everyone gets healthy, Hall will man the slot in sub-packages. Breeland and Chris Culliver are going to start.

DeSean Jackson - WR - Redskins
DeSean Jackson has been diagnosed with a sprained AC joint, and will be sidelined 1-2 weeks.
D-Jax apparently landed hard on his right shoulder, and did not run into a tackling sled, as had been previously reported. The 1-2 week timeline means he should be ready for Washington's regular season dress rehearsal against the Ravens on August 29.
Source: Mike Jones on Twitter Aug 6 - 3:46 PM

Brandon Scherff - T - Redskins
Redskins coach Jay Gruden says it's a "possibility" that first-round OT Brandon Scherff could begin the year at right guard.
Scherff has been penciled in at right tackle, but the Redskins may apparently begin the year with Morgan Moses opposite Trent Williams, kicking Scherff inside. A power blocker with huge hands, Scherff could be a mauler on the inside.

DJax got hurt on the first play of 1-on-1s. He got open deep on a fly and (Griff?) hit him in stride. He landed on it when he went to the ground out of bounds. Not sure if he held on or lost control like Dez did against the Packers. 8)

A blocking sled may have been involved.

Looks like one of the Texans also seem to think Griffin is vastly improved. Texans' Safety notes difference in Griffin

“Smarter, lot more confident, healthy. That’s a good thing to see. Compete,” Moore said.

He liked Griffin’s accuracy.

Every time I hear about him, I like Scot more and more:

Notes from camp.. like to see the Texans version, as this paints a burgundy and gold picture on both sides of the ball. The injuries adding up at corner back has me worried. Bad

Of course injuries are "normal"... all at one position isn't. If you read who we fielded with the #1 team today you'd get my reason for unrest- what was hopefully an improved unit of weakness turned strength is now worn through the backups and has udfa taking first team reps!!

Jamison Crowder - WR - Redskins

Redskins fourth-round WR Jamison Crowder "continues to shine" in training camp.
Per reporter Mike Jones, Crowder's speed has been "hard for anybody to match," and he runs good routes and finds holes in coverage. Crowder could put heat on slot WR Andre Roberts with a strong preseason.

Jordan Reed - TE - Redskins

Jordan Reed has changed his off-field routine in order to stay healthy on it and vows to play all 16 games this season.
Reed has cleaned up his diet, banishing bread, fried food and sweets, instead concentrating on eating "just real clean." He's also focusing more on stretching after dealing with a number of soft-tissue injuries his first two seasons. Finally 100 percent healthy, fantasy owners are sleeping on the ultra-athletic pass catcher.

Speaking of TEs. I hate reading stuff like this...

Two plays later, Griffin rolled to his left but had to hurriedly throw the ball with pressure coming right at him. He got the throw off, but Niles Paul dropped the ball.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/news/foot ... ning-camp/

Comments on the o-line were much more intriguing:

Brandon Scherff again worked at right guard, with Morgan Moses still starting at right tackle. Scherff appears to be making adjustments, as is Moses. J.J. Watt didn’t have the disruptive kind of day he had on Thursday. During 2-on-2 blocking/rushing drills, Scherff and Moses actually managed to combine to put Watt on his backside during one of their matchups.
Coaches really are intrigued by the possibility of this Scherff-Moses right side. Again, no final decisions are made. But they believe that they have a chance to develop into a formidable tandem.

Yes, Washington spent a fifth overall pick on Scherff, and people will say that’s too high to take a guard. But Bill Callahan doesn’t care about that. He believes Scherff has similar capabilities to Zack Martin, whom the Cowboys drafted as a tackle out of Notre Dame, but then moved him inside to guard in 2014. Martin made the Pro Bowl and earned All-Pro status as a rookie guard. Callahan believes in finding the best five linemen.

Several veterans say that Scherff looks more comfortable at guard, where he is better able to better put his impressive strength to use. This isn’t to say that Scherff can’t develop the footwork to become a standout tackle in the NFL. But teammates say he appears to have less to worry about and is playing to his forte. Stay tuned.

And I don't know about you guys but I'm starting to look forward to seeing this Matt Jones kid in action.

The run of the day belonged to rookie Matt Jones. His coaches have emphasized the important of finishing runs with physicality. They want him to take advantage of his size (6-1, 231), lower the boom and become a more “violent” runner, as Gruden puts it. Today, Jones did just that, on a sweep to the left, Jones turned the corner and raced 20 yards downfield. Texans cornerback Kevin Johnson bravely got in front of Jones, who absolutely trucked the 5-11, 188-pound Johnson and picked up another five yards. He delivered the blow right in front of a group of defensive players, including end Ricky Jean Francois, who stood on the sideline next to a group of Texans players. Jean Francois and his teammates erupted in celebration, “Oooooh’s,” laughs and mean mugs directed at the Texans.

Brandon Scherff - T - Redskins
The Washington Post reports the Redskins are serious about potentially kicking No. 5 overall pick Brandon Scherff inside to guard.
Scherff has reportedly looked "more comfortable" at guard than tackle. OL coach Bill Callahan believes Scherff could make a Zack Martin-type impact inside. Martin, of course, was a first-team All Pro for Callahan's Cowboys last season. The idea is all good and well, but Morgan Moses would be a massive leap of faith at right tackle. It's too early to rule out Scherff bookending Trent Williams in Week 1.

Source: Washington Post Aug 8 - 11:15 AM

Matt Jones - RB - Redskins
The Redskins want third-round RB Matt Jones to run with more "violence."
GM Scot McCloughan has called Jones a Marshawn Lynch-type talent, but he's apparently not there yet in the ferocity department. Jones already has the inside track on third-down duties, but a preseason of trucking and dragging defenders could earn Jones some of Alfred Morris' touches on early downs.

unfortunately, the fights, meant that practice was interrupted and the coaches did not get in as much as they wanted ... Gruden said these types of practices are a lot more helpful to both staffs than going up against your own team
The offensive line experimentation also will continue this week. Will Morgan Moses remain at right tackle, and Brandon Scherff at right guard? Coaches wanted to see more of this tandem on Saturday against the Texans; the brawl between the teams foiled those plans. We’ll see if offensive line coach Bill Callahan continues with this paring this week in practice, and if he does, those two will make their debut together in Cleveland.

on a different note ... I'm looking for more from this kid ...
“The one thing we haven’t seen yet is when the pads get on, and it’s live,” Jay Gruden said, referring to Jamison Crowder. “We’ll soon see. I don’t see any fear in his eyes whatsoever. He goes across the middle fearlessly. He knows how to run every route from outside and inside already. What a great job the Duke coaching staff did with their offense and coaching their wide receivers.”

Gruden added: “He came in and it’s been a really easy transition for him mentally and physically and obviously the hopes are very, very high for Jamison.”
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance

I've heard constant inconsistent stories with how each QB has looked in camp. But on a positive, I've heard nothing but good things about Crowder and Matt Jones. I've even heard speculation that Jones may give Morris a run for his money as the starter.

Niles Paul - TE - Redskins
Niles Paul is listed as the No. 1 tight end on the Redskins' first depth chart of training camp.
Beat writer John Keim promises Reed will play a "heavy role in the pass game, though." The Redskins did make some use of Reed and Paul on the field together last year, but this is still a concern for Reed's playing time. Paul is an intriguing deep sleeper coming off career bests in catches (39) and yards (507). He's a former college wide receiver who returned three kickoffs for TDs at Nebraska and ran 4.46 forty at his Pro Day. It's likely the Redskins view injury-plagued Reed as too brittle to count on as a full-time tight end.

Source: John Keim on Twitter Aug 9 - 4:08 PM

Chris Thompson - RB - Redskins
Redskins RB Chris Thompson is currently ahead of Silas Redd on the depth chart.
Coach Jay Gruden is talking up Thompson for third-down work even though rookie Matt Jones was considered the favorite for that gig. Thompson, an undersized yet flashy change-of-pace type, has had trouble sustaining health since breaking into the league in 2013.

Junior Galette - LB - Redskins
The civil suit stemming from Redskins OLB Junior Galette's domestic-violence arrest has been dropped.
Galette's battery charge was dropped in February, and the suit disappeared after Galette's accuser failed to appear in court. Galette has made all sorts of negative off-field headlines, but he's thus far managed to evade the long arm of the law. Even the slightest slip up would likely cost him his Redskins roster spot.
Source: Profootballtalk on NBCSports.com Aug 10 - 3:28 PM

Niles Paul - TE - Redskins
Explaining Niles Paul's position ahead of Jordan Reed on the depth chart, Redskins coach Jay Gruden called Paul a more complete player.
Paul is not a great blocker, so the undercurrent of Gruden's statement is that Paul stays on the field. Both players are above-average pass catchers for a tight end, but Reed simply isn't available enough. Reed boasts more upside, but Paul's stability could mean Gruden's camp words aren't empty.
Related: Jordan Reed
Source: Mike Jones on Twitter Aug 10 - 2:56 PM

Robert Griffin III - QB - Redskins
Robert Griffin III will play "at least" a quarter in Thursday's preseason opener.
The Redskins had already pledged to get Griffin more preseason snaps than usual, so it's not a surprise. An ill fit for coach Jay Gruden's offense in 2014, RGIII needs all the reps he can get as he attempts to salvage his career and hold off the backuper-iffic duo of Kirk Cousins and Colt McCoy.

These words don't make sense together. I swear there is some kind of schizophrenic thing going on with some of the reporting on Griffin.

—Robert Griffin III had an up and down day. In fact, it probably was more down than up. His first pass attempt of the day came as he was moving to his right and it was about a three-quarters overhand delivery. Griffin might have had WR Pierre Garçon on the sideline but the pass was off the mark, giving the receiver no chance. A few plays later, Garçon beat CB DeAngelo Hall on a crossing pattern and Griffin’s pass was on the money. For most of the day, he was on the money with his feet set and throwing a short pattern. Later in some simulated game situations he missed his first two, overthrowing Ryan Grant and leading Evan Spencer by too much over the middle. He finally nailed one, a dart to Andre Roberts.

there are going to be a lot of people that will not give RGIII a break or be willing to admit they might be wrong in their estimation that this kid is not a better QB than Cousins or McCoy and never will be

Griffin has a long way to go to show that he can play QB in the NFL and there are a lot of fans and members of the media that will have a hard time admitting they may be slightly wrong in their estimations of his ability

after a little over a week of Training Camp, I think it's pretty clear which QB is the better QB on this roster, at this time - there were many that would not have believed that was possible a few months ago - be interesting to hear some of them admit that they were wrong

any little thing the media can do to mis represent the progress that is being made will receive a lot more attention just because it is RGIII

Griffin has a long way to go to gain any credibility, and rightly so ... but so does this franchise - why not accent the positives for a change

I'm looking for a bunch of progress the next 2 seasons, from everyone ...

maybe not the media
