Are you in Spotsy? I grew up in Stafford (Garrisonville actually).

Ever been to Cards and Cones (it's an ice cream, deli, stationary and knick-knack store) on the corner of Princess Anne and William? Friends of ours own it.[/off topic]

Funny you mentioned this ice cream place...

I was in NYC over the weekend, and I spoke with a gentleman who says he lived in the Fredericksburg area (is that near Spotsy?). Anywho, He mentioned this great homemade ice cream place where people make a huge line in the summer to get hand made ice cream.

Are you referring to this place?

If not, does anyone know what I'm talking about? If so, can you tell me exactly where this place is. I'd like to taste this "experience" for myself.

Hmm. Well, Cards and Cones sells Hershey's ice cream now, though I think they also sold some homemade stuff years ago made by a guy named Bob (I think).

The place that really gets a line around it in the summer is Karl's Frozen Custard. Rumor has it that was Mark Rypien's favorite ice cream shop and even though they are only open for business during the warm months, they would keep a stock of custard for him. That's the rumor anyway.

Where's Karl's located? I think that might be the place.

If it's good for Ryp, it's good for me.

I'd like to see what the fuss is about.

Down I-95, Exit 133(A?) Towards Falmouth....

Take all the way to Route 1 and Make a right(3rd Stop-light?)

Cross over bridge, Turn Left at first Stop-Light....

It's about half a mile down on the right, you can't miss it.... I've lived here for 3 years now and never tried it because the lines always too dang long.... and I can't imagine the Ice Cream being that good.... but if you come and wait in line... get me a cone and bring it to my house... I live 5 minutes away... we can have a picnic...

I've seen the line as long as waiting for a good roller coaster at an amusement park... let that paint a picture in your head... :D

I've seen it get pretty long at the height of summer as well (lived in the area for more than 20 years). The line may be long, but it moves fairly swiftly (I mean, it's just an ice cream place), so the wait really isn't probably as long as it seems. The ice cream (custard actually) is pretty good -- at least as good as Khor Bros.

Whereas Carl's is a walk-up softserve place, Cards and Cones is a scoop ice cream shop with a deli and greating card store, that has indoor places to sit. It's also in the "downtown" area of f'burg (where the streets are perpendicular and there are other shops and stuff).
