Kouandjio's stock keeps rising

Post by Prowl33 »

I really like this kid, and the more the coaches talk about him, and the more he talks, the better he sounds.

To me his x factor may just be that he is from Md and his entire family and friends are skins fans.... all NFL players have a reason to be motivated... but what bigger motivation can you have than playing for you, and all your family and friends favorite team, and knowing that every week they are all watching you and most of them will be at every home game.

I think this kid will start for us game 1 this season, and may eventually earn a few pro bowls during his career as a redskin years from now.

I'm definitely curious to see how he does. If you watched the draft boards this past year, he was rated high early on and then fell.

I'm reluctant to get too enthusiastic about any of the linemen outside of Scherff until we actually see them play. I swear last off season all we heard was how great Spencer Long was doing.

Pump the brakes a little bit on this guy. Job number 1 is to get a spot on the 53 man roster. Then it will be earning a starting spot on the O-line. Way too early to consider pro-bowls for a rookie 4th rounder.

Giving early predictions based on a hunch is too fun though!

Really though, with his attitude, motivation, physical ability, and the way has acted thus far in training camp, he really should develop into w good starting guard for us

That article is probably the best single read on him ive seen. Few quotes that stood out to me are

"Toughness, patience, discipline, commitment, effort and pride," Kouandjio told redskins.com of his Crimson Tide experience. "Those are the big things that we harp on and focus on, and that's what I feel like I have instilled in me. ... Mental toughness, physical toughness, making sure your body dies before your mind does and just pushing through. Your body is capable of doing way more than you allow it to. At Alabama, you have to push through that."

"Alabama was what I was looking for as far as football, education and life," Kouandjio said. "I wanted to learn under coach Nick Saban how to be a man and felt there were a lot of parallels between him and the way my father was -- kind of stern. I loved that. Growing up I found out that even though my father was stern and rigid all the time, when I grew up and saw what all the guys around me were doing and stuff like that, I really started appreciating that."

Brilliant! Having a plethora of stud linemen is always a good thing.

I think it's safe to say that a mid-round draft pick who is hyped by the front office and impresses in practice, triggering the release of a veteran, is going to be on the 53. I'd bet on it, in fact.

I agree that it's too early to be talking Pro Bowls. What the hype does is just make me really excited to see him play in August. Let's see him push some people around and then start imagining what he might do down the road for us.
