Draft grade :eyes roll:
http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap300000 ... -nfc-teams
Most sane people know that you cant guage the draft "grade" until much further down the line- at least through preseason seeing some of the rooks in action. But of course, everyone has an opinion and a column to write.
Some beat writer on NFL network gave us a poor grade for not trading back or taking Williams (see link)- which imo is kind of a cop out- we were certainly shoping the pick, but you have to have a dance partner to make it happen.. PLUS there was no guarantee that NYJ didnt take our man if Williams was taken... no doubt NYG takes him.. so I think thats a bogus knock on Scott when in fact he got HIS guy. Trading back for an extra third rounder woulda been nice, but not at the expense of settling for the next best olineman- further so if Scott saw a big gap between the two. Heres a link to another take on Scotts first draft in DC-

Yep, that talk is just boilerplate draft analysis. (Are you telling me that you don't like Scherff at 5 but you do like him at 7 or 8? Whatever. Ironic that you accuse the Redskins of "reaching" given how much you are straining logic to make your point.)
And of course, as you point out, in order to move back but still get Scherff, we would have needed one of just three teams to offer us a deal. The Jets had no reason to trade with us. Turns out the Falcons wanted Beasley and were happy to sit tight knowing that he'd probably fall to them. So maybe the Bears might have wanted it? Hard to say. It's very unlikely that you're going to get something when it's a buyers' market and you only have a couple of potential customers.

Most so called experts thought Scotty Mac did well and gave our draft an A.
Mil Kiper thought we did the best of all teams. So did his colleague I forget his name. Bill Polian
a well respected GM also liked what Scot did in his first draft as Skins GM.

I just watched the FUNNIEST draft grade. Look up Fox sports live review....
They called it by far the worst draft in the NFL. Drafting Scherff at 5 was an apparition and he will not make it as a RT. Then to totally validate their knowledge of the game they said they wished the skins would have moved UP to get Mariota.
Had to double check and make sure I wasnt listening to the Onion.

The media's opinions on our draft are like rear ends - everyone's got one and most don't like the look of one when it is exposed
I'm happy with what Scot has done since he took over here and because it looks like Dan Snyder is letting these guys manage things here
Rome was not built in a day and these guys have made a good start on things

Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

Christian Hackenberg, QB, Penn State: We don't yet know what the future holds for Robert Griffin III, but if the projected records here from Football Outsiders come true, it's safe to assume Washington might be looking for a new franchise quarterback. Hackenberg struggled in 2014 with a 12-touchdown, 15-interception season, but he's a big-time talent with a pro-style skill set.

McShay is an idiot. We def wont finish last, and the last place team in the league will not be 5-11

Did we need OL?...YES
Was he probably the top in the draft?...Yes
Worthy of a top 10 or 5 pick?....NO
That is PREMIER LT slot right there. He isn't Ogden, Pace, etc. Is he even as good as Williams (#4)?
Seen highlights of him mauling 2nd level persons, which he should.....a lot of 2nd rate talent, which he should.....Scott has said it...he fits the mold of what he wants to build.....
If he just as good as Bulaga (team mate).....he was taken #23 for perspective.
The unit got better BUT I say he will be called a LOT for holding....

Aside from Leonard Williams, was there other talent available that you think was worth a #5 pick? Honestly, this draft wasn't especially stacked with talent at the top. Doesn't seem like a class poised to send 3-4 guys to the Hall of Fame.

I think Trea Waynes was....we shall see but he went to a great situation with Zimmer as coach. Im believe you can NEVER have too many good CBs in todays pass happy league. I know we signed Culliver and Breland looked great in year 1....but so did Armeson....would have gave us flexability with maybe switching Armeson to a safety position or traded him on draft day to say Pittsburg who lost Ike to retirement OR able to cut Hall and his large contract...etc...BUT you are correct in that there wasn't loaded top end talent....and a couple did drop cause of the failed tests in Ray and Gregory. Scott obviously liked Preston as the edge guy....otherwise I believe Beasley was probably the only other option at 5 outside of Williams and Waynes IMO
Re: Draft grade :eyes roll:
I think Trae Waynes is similar to Carlos Rogers. Great cover corner who has bad hands. Rogers could stay with almost any receiver. He just could not hold onto an interception especially when the game was on the line.

Re: Draft grade :eyes roll:
The way this draft went was a clear indication that the franchise was now being managed by people that know what they are doing
these guys had a draft board and the player at the top of that board was taken
thankfully we did not draft players that some here (and Dan Snyder) would have taken - we drafted the best player available for this franchise
there are no guarantees of success with the draft but drafting the best player in everybody's mind has been how we've been doing things here for years and look where that got us - these guys took the best player available despite what others thought - Trae Waynes was possibly on the list but he certainly was not as high as some here think
anybody with a clue knows it's going to take a year or 2 to make things better here - let's give these guys some time

Re: Draft grade :eyes roll:
The thing is a lot of people think the generic draft board made by analysts is the end all be all.
Truth is teams set their draft board to what fits them, the locker room, mentality, physical attributes, scheme, etc.
I dont care what anyone else thinks of our draft. Scot got a high percentage of the guys he really wanted for our team through the rounds, thats a big win to me.

We don't know how good he is yet. Most say he was one of the only can't miss players in the entire draft. The combine and everything else he did in college suggests he is actually a better athlete than Leonard Williams. Apparently Scott thinks he's a better football player too. Apparently Scott would have taken him at three if the teams before us had taken Fowler and Cooper.
